Since it's done over the internet, i think any civilization capable of receiving these messages, will be terrified and will kill itself before we find them

In best case scenario we will be responsible for discovering new universes by aliens ... and then they'll run there

Would probably be better for our species in the long run but I don't think I'd take their claims very seriously either.

There's a relevant passage below about it involving NASA's pale blue dot image and Ann Druyan does ask a pretty fair question.

Earth 4 billion miles away:

Ann Druyan suggest an experiment: Look back again at the pale blue dot of the preceding chapter. Take a good long look at it. Stare at the dot for any length of time and then try to convince yourself that God created the whole Universe for one of the 10 million or so species of life that inhabit that speck of dust. Now take it a step further: Imagine that everything was made just for a single shade of that species, or gender, or ethnic or religious subdivision. If this doesn't strike you as unlikely, pick another dot. Imagine it to be inhabited by a different form of intelligent life. They, too, cherish the notion of a God who has created everything for their benefit. How seriously do you take their claim?

Good point, some of those biblical accounts of stationary clouds, sky thrones, fiery chariots, flying rolls, pillars of light, platforms, vessels and fiery wheels in the sky do sound very intriguing -especially when the objects are being described as exhibiting rapid, prolonged flight; hovering; ascending or descending.

Cheers.

Boscov --- You give some insightful thoughts from your post's on this thread. May I add... without the use of a superluminal capable starship to transfer messages, via ship to ship transport --- the only probable method of instant interstellar communication would be a form of telepathic communication.

Instead of just supplying naked male and female images of ourselves --- such as on the Voyager spacecraft --- it might be a better protocol, too send radio communication clothed visual images of ourselves, along with clothed visual images of the otherworlder's that we might want to communicate with.

How do we know what the otherworlder's that occasionally visit our planet look like? Based on my own ufological experiences down at Calvert Cliffs, Maryland --- the otherworlders like to carve petroglyph images of themselves, along with some possible form of laser holography.

I'm not about to divulge about what the otherworlder's look like at this moment, due to security and time constrants --- but I did give it a try at space alien/earthling communication down at Calvert Cliffs [private property that I have permission to go on] --- along with the obligatory "Welcome to Earth" [carved into the face of the sandy cliff], and on a dead tree that toppled over the cliff --- I stripped the bark off the tree and chisled into the wood --- "Require Tachyons Plus Anti-Grav Black Holes, Stop 1996 AA Asteriod; along with chisled wooden facial images of the aliens themselves.

Great, a way to send messages into space, to other planets and species. You know darn well, Earth's marketing and media will start taking advantage of this, for sure. Once aliens start getting a mountain of useless advertisements, service announcements and jingles, they will blow this planet up for sure. To put our kind out of our misery, and keep them from going down with us.

We are talking about aliens. Who says that our planet really has any value to them at all. What if they are more interested in the gas on Jupiter or the rocks on Mars. I am thinking they have been here for all of our existence and we are just a fun ant farm scenario. The only thing I have heard about anything of value being harvested from our great planets is us.
I think it'd be awesome to have a response from the little guys upstairs, but I see them being just as afraid of us as we are of them.

I still kind of like the plan where we shut up and stop announcing ourselves and location to potential predators in the galaxy until we have a decent defensive system in place. Even little baby birds in a nest know enough to keep quiet until a parent shows up with some worms to feed them.

I'd rather not have to rely on that flaky Galactic Federation to come to our rescue when the bloodthirsty aliens show up at our doorstep. They're worthless.

Me? No. I'm just passing along the info, starting a conversation as to whether, or not, we are inviting an invasion and, perhaps, a discussion on the things people will send to our extraterrestrial brothers.

Personally, I don't think we are inviting an invasion but sending messages out but I do fear that any beings that come, or have come, will see us for what we are and either run, as fast as they can, or destroy us before we can spread our kind to other planets.

An invitation to an alien race is likely, but I'm more concerned about the types of moronic messages that will be sent !! If youtube comments are any reflection of our society, I'm already embarrassed. The last thing we ever need to disclose about our planet is how inept we are. We already have Hitler's speech during the olympics as our first interstellar broadcast. God help us if that site ends up sending nothing but useless redneck rants.

So now we are going to allow stupid people to give some ET a first impression of us human beings? Allow me to clarify my point here. The majority of people, at least here in the USA anyway, are imbeciles. Proof of that is when Obama was elected, and then re-elected, by an illiterate society.

LMAO! No worries though, I registered with the hope of swaying their inevitable opinion of the human race. Nah seriously, this is interesting. ~$heopleNation

I would choose not let them know where we are.

Every living thing we know, from bacteria to humans, kill. What would make them different?

But, I believe "they" are here, and have been here since beginning of time. I just have my own crazy theory as to who they are. And the killing, and this evil on earth will go on, as it always have been, since the beginning of time.

If I had the ability to, I would transmit a exact replica of my own DNA blue print.

Who knows, perhaps advanced aliens would use cloning processes once they intercept the message, then clone a crap load of me ... for their tasty Alien hamburger meat...

Perhaps something will clone me and put the clone in a Alien Zoo....

I could end up becoming an infinite lab rat for another advance Alien race.

Or

I can be cloned and then put on a different planet with a bunch of other female clones for the sole purpose of human reproduction... (Actually that's not a bad thought... lol)

The possibility is endless but I'm sure quite a few people would be uncomfortable with this idea.

Short answer: the fallen ones.

Some mighty beings they are. And not only the ones who fell with Lucifer, but others who chose to leave after that incident.

I don't think it's entirely unreasonable at this time to imagine that the same rules of nature that govern life on the surface of this one planet (Earth) wouldn't extend to outside our atmosphere and into the galaxy. At least to the extent that we are subject to those rules due to our physical natures.

Watch enough nature programs and if you're paying attention at all it becomes clear that life on Earth is all about eating and being eaten with the ultimate goal of procreation and continuance of DNA. Big eats little and little eats big. Energy is absorbed and released.

True, creatures like ourselves get some enhanced mileage by cooperating and communicating with each other. But only within our own species. Otherwise, we only survive by using other species as resources. And the harsher the environment, the more control we need to exert over those resources.

In the vastness of space, where resources are often few and far between, one could imagine a species having to turn super predator/scavenger in order to survive. And if they're able to get the better of us, physically or technologically or intellectually, we're likely to drop quite a few notches on the food chain.

So it makes sense to wait, listen, gather information, get smarter, and be ready before we lay out the welcome mat.

I'm not worried about these creatures. How powerful can they be if they can be thwarted by refusal? Captured with a ring, or scared off by calling the name of a powerful sorcerer?

I'm much more worried about the things beyond our understanding, who stand over us like we stand over an anthill, and can destroy us with or without any help from a fanciful deity, "good" or "evil."

Lets just hope they don't find out about Justin Bieber
and i'm 100% sure they will become porn addicts

That's the maim problem if it's done over the internet. Messages will mirror internets content: 80% porn, 10% funny pictures of cats, 9% other stupid stuff, >1% pretty smart ideas

Just in case there are some benevolent beings out there listening... my message would be something like:

"Help our species before we cause our own extinction or someone else's."

If that invites and invasion, so be it. It can't be much worse to be slaves to an alien race and know we are slaves instead of believing that we're free only to be slaves and not know it.

We already sent a Message for Extraterestrial Intelligences (METI). One they cannot miss.

It says:

1. We are so arrogant that we do not believe you even exist, and if you do exist, we do not give a rat's ass.

2. If you come our way, we will nuke you. We are violent, power mad, and thrive on conflict.

3. Eventually in the future you will have to deal with us. So decide what to do now.

This was the most effective message ever sent by any civilization, and it was sent by means of our unshakable skeptical hubris.
