Ration cards microchips and fingerprint reading for milk, petrol and Toilet Paper in Venezuela

My wife who is Venezuelan has just shown me this article.

Apparently this is only in the state of Zulia which borders Colombia. They say it is to control the flow of products into Columbia. I think it is the trial model of things to come.

If they say you can only have 1 roll of toilet paper for the week then that is all you can buy, Same goes for milk ,eggs and chicken.

The "Papachip" is an electronic system monitored by the company CANTV, which "coincidentally" is the state telephone company of Venezuela and leader of the project. The system consists of a fingerprint reader, which controls each user and family to have a certain quota of purchase. Zulia authorities will determine the quota and time, between two to seven days, for the purchase of each meal.

Venezuelans have baptized their ration Cuban-style with the name "Papachip" which will commence on Monday June 10 in the state of Zulia to twenty products, such as milk, chicken, eggs and toilet paper.

I fear this is the way the rest of the country will go. It is becoming another Cuba. There are shortages sometimes but this is not the answer. They need to start producing products instead of importing.
The excuse that this is to stop smuggling is absurd as the only thing cheaper in Venezuela are oil based products.

What the heck is wrong with this world

I would suggest everyone in the US stockpile toilet paper now before the TP tracking system is implemented here. Once the SHTF it's gonna be a crappy situation when they start rationing TP here and we are only allocated 1 roll per week.

It's better to be a Paper Prepper now than stuck up the creek without a roll later.

With their new government who knows how far they will go?. They have majority or police and armed forces supporting them. The country is truly divided and if the opposition did stand up and fight there would certainly be a lot of bloodshed.

If the translation is correct this is a similar system to one used in a local school (uk).
They have a finger print scan to pay for their meal rather than using cash or cards.

Similar in the technology but more sinister in its delivery. Why should anyone be told how much toilet paper they can buy.?

In Venezuela everyone has to have an id card which has the individuals fingerprint on. You are meant to quote your id number when purchasing products which almost certainly goes on a database somewhere. I always make something up.

I fear this is the testing ground and it is only a matter of time before it is rolled out across the rest of the country..

I mean imagine having to buy toilet roll from a blackmarket street dealer.....

The gradual implementation of this type of system will be global soon.

Venezuela may just be a trial run, but their citizens probably don't have much choice.

Look at all our identification, credit or "rewards" cards...
They are increasing the microchips in these already.
So in the countries that have them, the public is used to it.

Having these systems in place gives me comfort knowing that there will be order instead of chaos.

The toilet paper black market just exploded. Ooh, quilted, a luxury item, reserved only for the non-destitute. State rations could become recycled newspaper quality. Watch out for that comics section and all that ink. Pity the people with a bout of the flu.

Or stock up on newspapers and a big trash can. Or washcloths, an airtight can, and a bunch of bleach. There are a lot of eco-friendly ways to go around toilet paper. You never know when these news stories are sponsored by a toilet paper company, so don't panic buy your paper. In an anarchy moment, your hoard is just going to get stolen anyways. Women need a roll every 4 days, not a week.

They should just make a deal. Oil for tp. Tons in America. They pay 17 cents a gallon for gas. We pay 17 cents per roll. Good deal!

It should be pointed out that this sort of thing is coming from a country that is a source for illicit drugs. The governments down there are certainly corrupt. But, it shows the thinking of some people to control problems, they seek solutions like this.

Rationing usually happens in societies that go too far to the left. I am friends with a girl over in Venezuela, actually, whom I chat with every day. She mentioned she didn't like Nicolas Maduro or Hugo Chavez, but wouldn't go into many details.

Britain had rationing during and after World War II. You couldn't get anything in the shops, but of course on the black market, everything was available. It'll force the drug dealers to find it more profitable to smuggle toilet paper than drugs or weapons. British schools tried banning soft drinks, crisps and chocolate. Enterprising individuals from the low-income areas found a profit to be made from supplying said items...

Dont most of the people in this area have farms where they can get their own eggs, milk, etc? Is the .gov forbidding them from making their own? I agree its evil at any rate.

Yep, people, even westerners who claimed Chavez and his system was to benefit the people, forget that Chavez himself stated that castro was not only his friend but also his mentor, and the dictatorship of Cuba, well he said the Cuban system should be something that Venezuelans should want to achieve, or something like that.

Rationing like this, lack of food, lost in individual freedoms including the right to free speech etc are all controlled in all socialist/communist states.

All of the above, and more, has been slowly implemented in Venezuela to the point that people even fight in markets for food...just like in Cuba...

You would think that after dozens of such socialist/communist "collectives" turning into dictatorships that other people in the world would realize the foolishness of wanting similar "collectives"...
