"You pluck out the worst aspects of sharia law, and offer them up as the reasons why Muslims wanting to live their lives in a way they feel comfortable with is wrong."

Female circumcision, forced arranged marriages, mercy killings/beatings are reason enough to question any law that promotes such actions.

What is it that you are trying to say that we should all just embrace the good parts of Sharia law while ignoring the atrocities perpetrated by said law?

Everyone should follow the law of the land or be held accountable. No ifs, no buts, no coconuts!

Where do you live?

That's not how it works on ATS, silly rabbit.

A few muslims do not speak for all muslims.

A few EDL speak for all EDL.

Have you learnt nothing over the past few weeks?

I have learned over the past decade or so that Islamic Muslim Extremism is a clear and present danger to our nation!

And please stop dogging the question, why should they not just have to abide by the same laws as the rest of us?

Silly Rabbit LoL
I hope by that you mean I have ears and eyes to see!

well yeah, that's what a lot of muslims do.

the majority of muslim countries only enforce certain parts of sharia.

non muslims are not required to live by them either.

if two sides of a legal dispute wish to use sharia law to reslove it what's the problem? i just don't get it.

"if two sides of a legal dispute wish to use sharia law to reslove it what's the problem?"

The problem is that Sharia law is not recognized in this country, hence an illegal form of litigation!

The problem is that its favors men's opinions over women's!

You do realise that the group "muslims" is far more inclusive than the group "EDL," don't you? There's a clue in the fact that it's called the ENGLISH Defence League.

Im afraid I did its clearly there!

""This is a dangerous myth perpetuated by people with dangerous agendas. The majority of Muslims do not want Sharia law in Britain, what they want is something very different. They just want the option to live their lives according to certain aspects of Sharia law, aspects that effect no one and do no harm to anyone and never will."

Buddy I think you may find rather a lot of women out there that would argue that Sharia law is both detrimental to their health and education never mind their sense of wellbeing.

Lets see female circumcision, forced arranged marriages, mercy killings/beatings the list goes on all according to Sharia law!

Why should they not just have to abide by the same laws as the rest of us?

There can only be one code of laws i'm afraid anything else promotes anarchy and does nothing more than destabilise our nation even further!"

look for yourself.

The muslims tried to attack EDL at a rally. They planned to do a murderous attack on them. But were caught and sent to court.www.guardian.co.uk...

Its turning into a gang war, like EDL against the radical muslims of the UK.
This will not end nicely if they keep going this way.

My question stands thought Bates, how can you possible think that there should be a different set of laws for communities wishing to follow Sharia law when under British law we are all equal?

You cannot have one rule for some and other rules for the rest it's simply not fair never mind the fact that justice must be seen to be done.

Millet (Ottoman Empire)

You might want to read this, I am not saying this system of governance applies to modern day Britain in any way shape or form, however, It can and has worked. Personaly I feel if a culture is diverse enough, then why not?, fairly enlightened way to look at things. Also Great Britain and the United Kingdom has separate code of laws does it not?, such as Scottish and English law?, so you know.

The Ottoman Empire I should also say was the single most successful empire in the history of human kind. Maybe they were on to something eh.

Like any empire, for all there faults, anarchy was not one of them.

I still don't get what the problem is; if everyone who is involved is happy to live by the laws laid down, to have the sharia councils judge their disputes, what is your problem with it?

If people are happily living by a set of rules that harm no one, why do you care?

Because if you live in Britain you abide by British laws. It's totally irrelevant whether someone is happy with sharia law. You want sharia law? Then go to a country that allows it.
