Just a flat-out excellent post..
I encourage everyone to get to know your small businesses.
You get to meet, hard working people who still give a crap about customer service.
How about "Buy Local Day"?
Maybe even once a month..?

Is it INTERNATIONAL Buy Nothing Day? I'm assuming it applies only to the Developed countries. Sounds like a bit of first world arrogance. Perhaps
"give money to the poor" day would be better.

The US has many days like this.
the most common one is "payday"
There are dozens of campaigns every year, just for this purpose..
I personally donate to many of them. But not all..I usually make an attempt to find out how, and where the money is used.
My wife and I also collect, and give away Baby stuff...Strollers, boxes of Diapers, canned goods. etc..I've rebuilt a few cribs.
We also donate time, I have given quite a bit of time to train on Computer Basics. Teach a person to fish....well, you know what I am saying
Still, spending your money at the local level, in local businesses brings many rewards. It's an outstanding Idea...Tell Walmart to Take a hike every
now and then..

That's right -- the little businessman, not the big corporation.

agreed. how about we change this to help out the little guy day. stop shopping at your supermegalospantastic store and instead try stopping by that
hardly noticable niche that you pass everyday with curiousity. you have your mission, go forth! dfh out.

No problem here not shopping on that day for a couple of reasons -- can't stand crowds and living on a retirement income doesn't make for much money
at the end of the month anyway -- in fact paid some bills today and I'm pretty sure we will squeak thru the rest of the month without dipping into
overage account

won't happen...
well maybe on a very, very small scale...
it's just like those emails that go around..
"on such and such date, don't buy gasoline"...
it doesn't happen... ever look around at the gas stations on those dates ??? business as usual !!!

Nah
Buy a motorbike that day ! Save some money on gas and have some fun!
You get more friends with a motorbike than you do in your car or big suv!
Heck its the holidays, I'm not putting my country out of work no way! Buy a turkey and drop it off at the local food bank for the people that have a
need! Don't forget the can food as well. Do something spectacular for someone els on November 27th. For that mater do something any day of the
year!

Sorry guys... you have to count me out on this one. Move it to another day and I'll be glad to help your cause. But on this day the prices of items
are so low that I have to join in. Not to help the stores but because I have 3 children. If I go out and shop on this day I can easily buy them 3 to 4
times what I could normally afford. I can't justify taking away from my children's Christmas to prove a point.
Like I said pick another day and I'll be glad not to shop.

I've always thought that these, "Buy (insert product here) Day's" were bogus. Like it would really make a difference to not buy something for a
whole 24 hours.
Written buy Volkgeister:

Awsome!!! Buy Nothing Day sounds great!!! I'm gonna run out and buy a grill, some steaks, some beer, some party favors, and a sweet stereo for the
back yard and celebrate with all my friends.
