Meat is not murder in any sense of the word. Cows and chickens and pigs are lower animals put here to be food. Why do you think we have these Canine teeth? For ripping the meaty flesh of a tomato? No for eating meat.

Yes Give That Kid a Choice!! My Parents were FAR from Liberal but they gave me a choice and I respect them more for it. A parents job is to guide the child, not force things on him that he doesn't agree with. Granted there are differences.. like you cant let your child play with loaded guns - But eating veggies for example is not such a strong issue as many kids balk at this.. This kid has an octopus in his plate. I wouldn't eat that crap either. The important thing is to get the nutrition into the kid.. give him a choice of another meat or veggie and find out what he likes. There are always vitamin and mineral supplements.

This extends everywhere in the relationship of a kid and parent over many issues, not just whats on his plate. Teach your child to make his own choices and not force the kid to do anything he doesn't like ( within reason) and the kid will love you more for it and become a more well rounded individual.

So it's better for a child to get essential vitamins and minerals from a pill rather than vegetables? When they get old enough to have an informed opinion, fine. Till then, they try what's on the table. Unless we should run our private kitchens like a restaurant and just serve everyone what they choose?

They are not 'lower' animals - they are fuelled by the same life force / spirit as you.
It is sad that you and so many like you are so elitist and so cruel and do not see the wrongness in your beliefs.

Addit: The reason I stopped practising as a Christian is because the church is filled with cruel/ evil voices about man having 'dominion' over animals - so it is ok to treat them as they please.

I understand Christianity to be kind, giving and harming no one or no creature.

As a matter of fact it gives complete lists of acceptable animals to eat. It also gives no reference at all to lead us to believe that animals have spirit. They are food, so no spirit. to assume no spirit just because of a species with different thought patterns is ignorant, im a Christian and I believe more in the Native American ways of thanking God or whatever determines there reality for being able to sustain my selfish self with there life. Which i still think is evil but we have to eat and in this world are bound to eat meat at some time. I think our teeth look more like herbivores, rather than true carnivores.



True carnivores must have the amino acid, taurine, in order to live. Humans don't require taurine to live, so that, to me, proves that we are not true carnivores. Some people believe that we are omnivores (much like the apes) -- meaning, we were meant to eat mostly plants, with maybe a little meat thrown in here and there. I could go along with that before I would ever agree that we are carnivores.

I think it is part of the cycle of life that animals and plants die to feed others. It is a sad but true fact of life. I don't have a problem with killing an animal that has been able to live naturally in the wild. What bothers me is the "factory farming" of animals by large corporations. These animals have never had a chance to live a normal life as an animal, living their life in cages, crammed together. I find this abhorrent, so that is why I don't eat meat or farmed fish. I wouldn't have a problem eating a cow or a chicken that has lived free range and treated humanely while alive.

I always gave all my children choices at all ages of what to eat, and we always talk out of the box on issues as well.

Finding that out doesnt mean he has to participate in anything like this. We're given choices here, dog eat dog, or harmony/cooperation and love, up or down, beast or spirit. Nearly all creatures great and small respond to love.

your missing the point, in genesis it states the all green seed bearing plants are made for our consumption, PLANTS not animals. That must mean that there is a plant for all of our mineral and nutrition needs, animals can alter our thinking, causing us to act more cruel and unaffectionate when we mix their life force with ours, which what must of happened to you somewhere, i joke, but seriously Jesus sought fisherman, fish provide us good oil nutrients, chicken, not so healthy but tastes good. And just look at an animal, they have something, maybe its our ideas of life that are off a bit. We have to hide from nature, they face it head on, and suffer our cars and noises from machines, how would you like to be a bird in the city? or a chicken in the coop? Not giving your kid choices can encourage their independence as they grow older. If you don't listen to them when they're a kid, they won't listen to you when they start to grow up. It's called mutual respect. I know this from experience. My parents didn't respect my desires much because I was a fairly eccentric child with unusual interests...and as a result, I didn't take their opinions into account as I got older because they hadn't shown me the same consideration.

I make sure not to make that mistake now that I'm an adult.

Why are we quoting the Bible here? We have canines. Canines have a very specific purpose. It's well known that we are omnivores and we get a significant amount of our minerals from meat.

I think I might back it up a few feet here. Religion just got brought into a scientific discussion. Everything will go downhill from there.

As far as having ethics at an early age...speak for yourself and yours alone.
He had his reason for not wanting to eat meat anymore...and his mother was moved by his well thought-out convictions. He is still willing to eat anything else.

I'm sure that if his mother still wants to eat meat...she will.

I feel as if we have lobbyists from the Beef, Pork and Poultry Boards on the forum today.

I know all about hidden animal products in food.

I feed my cat and dogs meat and dogs also some non meat.
My pet birds have a full vegetarian diet as do I.

You are conflating kindness and love for all creatures as sex with animals that is very very strange.
Christians who preach that animals are lower beings are not very loving. I thought Christ was all about love to all creatures great or small.
