Goatheads!
I lived out in New Mexico for about 15-16 years and there were these things out there the locals called goatheads. I never knew nor heard of any other
name for them. They are part of a plant - i.e. fruiting body, seedpod or something and each goathead has a few spikes on it which are incredibly sharp
and stout. It seems as if there might be some sort of poisonous aspect to their bite because the sting doesn't go away quickly. When you step on one,
you know it. It feels as if you've stepped on two or three wasps at once or have been attacked by three rapidographs which get red hot within a
nanosecond or two.
These things would make Superman wince. No lie!
They're pretty easy to find, just take off your shoes and walk outdoors in New Mexico.
