I couldnt find this posted elsewhere, so here it is for your enjoyment.

The brood of Cicadas has emerged. This time lapse video, which I found to be incredible footage, details the short 6 weeks these buggers are above ground every 17 years.

I find them to be ugly and beautiful at the same time. And, having grown up on the East coast, many of my summers I can remember the sound of the buggers drowning out everything else!

Enjoy

Some amazing footage on that video. Are the cicadas out now? I've yet to see any.

Thanks for sharing.

Here is a YouTube video of it but the quality is a tad low:

You're right, those things are very loud! I remember the first time I saw one, I was amazed at how big and ugly they were.

1:52 to 2:40 is really amazing.

They are out and driving me nuts. We must be at ground zero here, they are everywhere! And so loud you can hear them inside the house...with the TV on.

Still, they are neat creatures. S&F

They'll be showing up any day now here where I live.

And it will be deafening, as it's loud just about every year.

Oops! Scratch that! Brood II will not really be showing up here in SC this year.

We get annual ones (they're green) and plenty of them.

Brood VI is what will hit us (17 year ones) in 2017, and then we'll have Brood XIX in 2024 (13 year ones, last here in 2011 and they were LOUD).

Not yet here in Western PA, though, I think in the eastern part of the state, yes.

I remember the last time they were out in 1996 in NJ. I've also heard they're great when stir fried chinese/thai style
