Mammoth find: Preserved Ice Age giant found with flowing blood in Siberia

I think it's great that new things are being discovered, but I don't agree with trying to bring back anything. Most likely, they'll be farmed and/or tested on. All you have to do is look at our slaughterhouses and animal testing facilities to see why it'd be wrong to put yet another living thing through something so horrible.

Interesting find. Bringing them back to life would be incredible but with the way society is these days... Not so sure.

I remember long time ago when they found the Charkov (Jarkov?) Mammoth and my grandpa and I lapped that show up like no time.

Guess I'm sort of kicking myself now for not going into the path of geneticist...though knowing me I'd bring back this bad boy:

If I was the mammoth I would want to left extinct, and if I was brought back I'd wish I would have evolved Opposable Thumbs so I could chock whoever was responsible for bringing me into a garbage dump of a polluted dying planet.

You ATS people should rename into ADHS people. Your attention spans are ridicously low. How often have russian "scientist" put forward the exact same story in order to get funds for cloning projects of mammoths. They were all hoaxes. How often are you gonna swallow the same lies? Not that it's impossible, just that if these stories are always deliberate hoaxes, it needs more than this to convince me - but not you... must be the fluorid in the water.

It would not be proper to bring a species back from extinction, only to live in captivity.

Money generated by tourism would be enough to hire guards to protect them.

It would be really cool to try and bring back quite a few extinct animals, but the problem is, once you have brought them back (assuming it could be done and would be able to produce viable specimens that could reproduce on their own), what do you do with them? Problem with mammoths and many other extinct ice age species (not to mention really far out notions of bringing back dinosaurs) is that much of their natural habitat has been lost due to the end of the ice age itself, as well as other species that it would have lived along side of, both plant and animal.

If cloning extinct species does become possible (and produces viable, self-perpetuating individuals), I would think it best to concentrate on recently extinct animals that humans exterminated in historical times, like the thylacine, the great auk, the passenger pigeon, the quagga, and perhaps even the giant moa birds of New Zealand and their predator the haast's eagle (if you could find a place for the latter two to live). These are animals that have been extinct for only hundreds of years, and the ecological habitats they lived in still exist, if even in a much smaller area than when these species were extant.

Well this is the thing. If they do bring the mammoth back surely they will have to bring back some extinct plant species for it to eat.. Unless they can adapt its diet to be of 'modern day' plants. The mammoth is going to need a massive specialised area to roam about in. With certain plants and maybe even soil...

The Mammoth died off relatively short while ago. Why do you think it needs extinct plant species to eat even if the plants it used to eat were now extinct (which they are almost certainly not)? They were alive until around 3,500 years ago.

Why would they be farmed? That makes no sense. Do we farm elephants? Why would they be tested on? They are extremely similar to elephants, what you suggest lacks one iota of common sense.

If you had read through the first page of the thread you would have seen a post by Mod Kandinsky see link below. He says it is genuine. I think it is genuine. If you can provide me with some evidence that it is a hoax. I will gladly cooperate to see if this is a hoax or not....
