Was wondering why that car didnt get flung over in the wind.
Apparently they call it their "TIV2".

Was only when I went looking for a picture of it, that it answered my first question...

If I didn't know anything about this vehicle and saw it on the road somewhere, I would have thought it was some hi-tech military machine...with a cloaking device built in!

Thanks for the post!

Hope he got good Imax video.

Congrats to him, this was better than any of his hits on the shows.

Wow those guys are courageous, even for being in that specialized vehicle.

You can see some shrapnel hitting the windshield at 2:05, crazy!

Homes in Tornado Alley should be built aerodynamically.

They must have been pretty confident their truck wasn't going to end up airborne! Suppose there was only one way to find out.

For those that have never been inside a tornado....this is what it looks like.

Ha ha, that would be, no one alive to tell the tale unless they were in a vehicle built to take one on, or exceptionally lucky!!

Amazing video though, you can feel the ferocity.

Thanks for sharing!!

Very cool! S/F!!!
I live in Kansas - I love severe weather - but in the last few years, it's gotten REALLY crazy -
we've had bouts of thundersnow, which used to be rare...
microbursts,
gale force winds....

I actually got to see one pass by (my horses alerted us and made us go down the hill into the ravine - our house would have blown to bits if it had hit us.) It was within a half mile, and a half mile wide - and devastated a huge swath similar to the Monroe, OK thing.

They sound like 10 freight trains coming. Really awesome.
Sadly, my dad, who used to stand on the porch watching when the sirens went off (while we all cowered with the pets clutched close in the basement), never got to see one before he died.

Indeed, I bet they also have big brass ones. Here's what the mythbusters did to test the TIV2 & another similarly designed vehicle "Dominator"

Wow. That's like being in a car wash from hell. The wind and howling is eerie as heck.

Just wild. A sight that only a few living people have seen before. I have to see it on bigscreen, but I thought I saw a deer fly by around the 1 minute mark.

That is some fantastic, amazing, and awe inspiring footage! The design of the vehicle kept it from flying away, which I am guessing is down to more than the shape of the body. Unless I am very much mistaken, it appears to have anchor points, spikes that drive down under the ground and lock it down tight against the Earth.

But I am not sure that this is a necessary feature, since the abundant weight of the NUTS on these dudes would prevent them being blown away.

This is inside the TIV2...notice anything familiar?

Yeah, if you expand their comment they say that the first whine you hear is the hydraulics dropping that aerodynamic plate to the ground. The vehicle also drives stakes into the ground to stabilize it.

This one experience I will live vicariously, thank you very much!

If you enjoy the storm chaser type shows you really need to watch Storm Chasers on the Discovery Channel. My personal favorite it Season 4 Ep 4. The TIV has a wonderful intercept. They are reality shows so there is some drama involved. This episode was actually a bit of a tear jerker. Sorry I have search everywhere and have been unable to find the video except on Netflix, so I am unable to post a link. But if interested I would search it out and watch the intercept is awesome!
