Video from inside a Tornado Intercept Vehicle Hit By Wedge Tornado in Kansas

This is some pretty insane footage . Apparently, this footage was taken yesterday, (5/27/2013...but I have no way of independently verifying that date) inside a tornado in Kansas. The video description says the wind speeds were anywhere from 150 to 175 mph, until the tornado ripped the instruments off of the top of the vehicle.



For those that have never been inside a tornado....this is what it looks like.

- Look at the window sparking around the 2:06 mark.

If it's done by Brandon Ivey and Sean Casey then it happened on the date they say.

That was insane.

Was wondering why that car didnt get flung over in the wind.
Apparently they call it their "TIV2".

Was only when I went looking for a picture of it, that it answered my first question...

I saw another intercept they filmed for an IMAX film. It was on Storm Chasers. It was awesome also.

I have to say I've never seen anything like that before.

You can really see the power of those tornados from that video. I'm glad they had a vehicle that could survive that, not sure I would be brave enough to do what they did.

Ive watched a ton of videos of tornados, but this is the first video Ive ever seen from inside a tornado of this size. I cant imagine how loud it is, along with the amount of pressure being felt.

ETA - Also, look how fast the lights get drowned out. Just crazy

No way would I ever get in that thing.

I actually just got back home from chasing the exact same system! My hunch is that is the 1/2 mile wide tornado that came down near Smith Center KS earlier (5/27). Today was a pretty nice setup with a torcon rating of 4.

I did not see the TIV this time but we chased together last year in Olathe KS and I have a nice video of that tornado. That encounter was very close but thankfully we were parked near them so if it came at us we could at least hunker down.

Wow, that was amazing!

I have been close to many tornado's i my life time, kind of miss them now
living in Montana, no good storms like kansas and mo.
But that one is the best i have ever seen. I've never seen anything like that before.
Always wonder d what it would be like to make it through one, guess these guys are
the lucky few to know first hand.
Although confidence in the car or not, i think i would have to change my undies after that.

Incredible footage! There aren't too many people alive to tell the tale about surviving on the inside of a tornado that magnitude.

With that being said, I would be terrified by getting hit by a truck, train, or some large tree inside of a tornado if I were in that vehicle. I know that it is modified to prevent flipping and stave off debris, but I don't think anything could withstand that type of impact

If I remember right this Video was taken by a man who has been on such a mission for several years. He deserves to get the shots he got!

I want one! I wonder what kind of gas mileage it gets? Does it come in Candyapple Red or British Racing Green?

Would also come in handy during zombi invasions as well...
