How are those lyrics a "threat" to the White House, but Queensryche (for example) was not?

The system we learn says we're equal under law. But the streets are reality, the weak and poor will fall. Let's tip the power balance and tear down their crown. Educate the masses, We'll burn the White House down. --Queensryche "Speak"

If this case was ever based on his lyrics, it is an example of Orwellian over reach and abuse of Federal power.

I fully support free speach but there is a line between free speach, hate speach and threats. This kid has a history of threats and violence. If this kid is to the point that his own sister is locked in her room and calling the police because he's threatening to stab her with a knife, then thats a problem. How many times do you read in the paper that someone with a history of violence filled red flags was ignored and later turned around and killed someone.

Let's see what the Russian socialist media isn't telling you:

According to police reports, D'Ambrosio has a history of making violent threats, once to his sister and once to a pair of eighth graders

Lol... seriously, that's the best they have on him apart from the lyrics? Wow better lock me up right now if threatening your sister is an act of terrorism.

You're kidding, right? So his sister wasn't so terrified of being stabbed with a knife that she didn't have to lock herself in her room for her own safety. If that's not terror, how do you define it?

Is he / was he being held for making "threats" against the White House, or for making threats against his sister?

Thats a good question, the article states threats of terrorism. Clearly the people he is planning to kill aren't identified. It could be anyone.

Essex County District Attorney’s office say are threats of “terrorism.”

terrorist threats D’Ambrisio made were in the form of text messages and postings on Facebook.

One of those threats, Chief Solomon said, “was in the form of a rap, where he mentioned the White House, the Boston Marathon bombing, and said ‘everybody you will see what I am going to do, kill people.”

Not according to Techdirt, or the Sheriff who arrested him:

I do want to make clear he did not make a specific threat against the school or any particular individuals but he did threaten to kill a bunch of people and specifically mentioned the Boston Marathon and the White House.

www.techdirt.com...

I'd post the actual Facebook post here in its entirety (something the media has been too lazy / incompetent to do since the story broke) but it contains enough F-bombs to violate me from here to the end of the Internet on ATS. You can, however, read the whole thing at the Techdirt page linked above.

Basically the guy is being held without bail for writing REALLY LAME rap lyrics, which contain no specific threats to anyone, and are in fact -- much tamer than lyrics by Eminem or Queensryche. The rationale us that he threatened some people before, or something, but his "terrorized" sister is one of the people working hardest to get him released, and you know how much (some) cops (and the media) lie.

He is being held because the judge believes his behavior is escalating.
