Given the location of people posting, I should have felt it. Neither my fiance nor myself felt it. I was sitting here on ATS when it happened. *sigh*

That caught my attention too.

It is not typical EQ country up there. I have lived in California a long time.

I live 50 miles from Lassen, and felt the quake. It was significant! I could drive up the road to check the peak but it's too dark to see anything right now.

It was quite a rocka-rolla - I thought I was having a dizzy spell until the house started creaking and things were swaying!

I'm just outside of Sacramento in a 3rd floor apartment. My son said "shaking" and we both stood still watching his computer monitor shake mildly for about 5-6 seconds, then a more sudden jolt hit... and we both headed for the door. Whole thing lasted around 10-15 seconds for us.

Just a few seconds for me.

But it was unmistakeable.

A moderate quake at 0km depth in not on a regular fault-line, but in an area of volcanic activity...

Sounds almost like magma moving close to the surface.

Wonder if we are near an eruption event?

it lasted about 20 seconds for me. i was completely baffled as indeed this is a rare occurrence in Norcal

So odd. I am 68 miles from the epicenter and didn't feel it. I am jealous of you all, but yes, this is weird since it isn't an earthquake prone area. It does make me wonder if it is volcanic activity. Time to pay close attention.

That is exactly what I was thinking.

And i am planing to move to Susanville this summer.

I am glad i live in a motor home as its the most survivable place to live in a major earthquake.

Though in a major earthquake a motor home really rolls.

Here is a link to a Heliplot clear up in Alaska to get some clear view. The Nevada was is more cluttered. It sure is showing a long duration shaking though. The obvious spike periods for the major ones, but a lot happening for quite a bit of time, too.

Eagle, Central Alaska Helicplot

Here is the directory of the network...

I hope that helps folks keep track of things.

Don't feel so alone, I did not know about it until my wife called and told me.
My dogs had been lying on the same spot on the bed for quite awhile and no jumping up and barking.
Come to think of it, no animals going nuts.
Fair Oaks here.

I've a suggestion to keep all of you occupied, learn to swim

I'd hate to be camping in that area right now! Some of those appear to be surface quakes which could mean the ground is splitting open! Will have to keep an eye on this swarm.

...and it's still shaking in that area.

It seems that the Sacramento quake is setting off small quakes in Westwood ( That's LA), doesn't it?

I grew up in the area and it scared those who lived there. It was off the east shore of Lake Almanor near Canyon Dam (which is a dam). Lots of holiday tourists are probably up there camping in the area right now.

Because of the quake, a friend of mine who lives in Chester, and felt it good, reminded me that It has been 98 years and 1 day since Mt. Lassen erupted. Mt. Lassen is considered a dormant volcano, meaning it could erupt at any time.
Mt Lassen is also practically in Chester/Lake Alamanor area.

Power outages, broken water mains, minor damage... If these shallow quakes keep up it could get a little crazy out there. I hope a big one isn't incoming but considering how shallow these are, I wonder.

5.7 earthquake centered in Plumas County Feather Publishing 5/23/13 Updated 10:10 p.m. PG&E reports two power outages affecting 623 customers in the vicinity of Prattville on the west side of Lake Almanor. There is a broken water main in the Lake Almanor Peninsula affecting an unknown number of customers. There are reports of minor damage, mostly items knocked off of shelves, from Susanville, to Indian Valley, to Lake Almanor. Article (Update!)

Might be related, might not. I'm not sure of the faults in the area since I left Northern California and live in Western Washington.

Sacramento is about 3 hours away, 150 miles from the epicenter. This earthquake area was in the heart of the cascades and I believe has a different fault than Sacramento.
It might have been strong enough to bump plates, but I'm not sure it could've because of the depth.
I think the end of the Cascade range has a convergent fault, but Sacramento and LA has a transform fault, so this quake may not have effected it.

Prattville always gets the short end of everything. It seems like every summer it's always on fire, and now this quake. These outages will certainly hurt Memorial Weekend business. That area relies on tourists.

I should have said Greenville instead of Sacramento.

I have a feeling it is more than coincidence that 20 minutes after that EQ in Greenville we got at least four straight shocks in Westwood (Los Angeles).

I sure hope its just a coincidence.

Joe

Thanks for posting your chart dreamfox - maybe you can update it in a little while?
