I was mentioning this earlier today, how it is so strange that Republicans are Christians. I have no idea how they justify that. Check out this painting.

Look at how Jesus is holding that large bowl of gold and keeping it away from the poor man! This pretty much sums it up. I'm sure Jesus wouldn't do that, but Republicans do! Just in the past day they said the poor shouldn't be given food stamps.

Stephen Fincher, a deranged Republican congressman from Tennessee, is very angry that the federal government is committed to preventing poor people from starving to death: Republican Congressman Stephen Fincher of Tennessee, who supports cuts to the program, had his own Bible verse from the Book of Thessalonians to quote back to Vargas: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat,” he said.

It's that pesky old testament again. Why can't Christians get with the times, you know, the one that started 2,000 years ago?

Artist Michael D’Antuono is certainly no stranger to controversy. His latest painting, “The Conservative Christ,” will likely frustrate conservative Christians, particularly because of how it depicts their views on issues like guns and poverty.

Oh, I am not done criticizing yet. Check out this screen clip from Samurai Champloo to see what the Japanese think of Christians. These Christians are meeting in an underground cave, where their leader is using them to manufacture guns. Check out the extravagant statues.

What's the older gentleman holding in his right hand, it looks like a mallet that he's about to use if the Jesus image doesn't give him gold and guns. (EDIT: Oh, I see, it's his staff. Still could be used as a mallet.)

Republican candidates and officials in the U.S. know that their voters are mainly Bible-belt believers, so their "Christian" credentials have to be in order. Doesn't mean that a one of them actually believes.

Wait a second, can you provide me some evidence that Republicans in America follow any of Jesus' teachings? It seems to me that they are similar to the teachings of the Rabbis of the time that had him crucified.

If you are a Christian, I wouldn't take this as offensive, I think it might better serve as a reminder and a way to check on your own behaviors and inconsistencies. I find these kinds of things useful for that.

I agree that there is a huge gap. But very few people practice what they preach, and the ones that do, usually limit their charity to the people closest to themselves.

But the same kind of hypocrisy can easily be seen in other political groups. I am personally on the far left, even for someone living in country that has democratic socialism - and I am often bothered by how celebrities, and young people in general, preach about stuff like the environment without doing squad about it.
It's usually a social thing people do to seem smart or hip - similarly I think many republicans claim to be Christians, without ever really meaning it, just to get accepted by the voters.

There are assholes like that everywhere.

The democrats could just as easily be the ones holding the big bowl of money. They are the party that thinks it's morally okay to steal from the productive .. to turn them into slaves for those who aren't doing the work in the country. They are the party that buys votes with stolen $$$.

Republican this. Democrat that. All the cheerleading for 'my team' and the booooo's for the 'other team'. It's silly. Both parties have serious issues. It's absurd.

No, I'm not a Christian.

Personally I believe that a book which espouses themes that have their roots in desert shamanism, a book compiled, edited, interpreted, censored, printed and distributed by men, in a time and place that has zero temporal and cultural similarities to a modern political ideology in a first world country....it's like trying show the disparity between Santa and the communist party....and that's not even a good example....how about the disparity between leprechauns and the Labour Party?

Ah, okay. I think you are absolutely correct about your assessment of Christianity.

I guess it's just weird that Republicans often use it as a major justification for their platform when it doesn't actually support their platform. And like you said, especially the old testament, is partially a temporally and culturally irrelevant code of laws. But I see. You already understand this.

That is basically the truth. And yeah, the Democrats have their own issues, I agree. This thread just happens to be about this particular Republican issue, and some great artwork. I criticize both sides.

Productivity is seldom a choice, but rather the result of whatever background one might have, both genetically and environmentally, and hence gives little justification to the privileged lives some live. Besides, the actual production is never done by the most wealthy, nor is the development of said production.
- and last but not least. The stuff that the so-called productive produce is rarely something that improves on peoples lives, but rather obsolete luxury items that the higher middle class can buy to set themselves apart from the lower middle class, or simply just stuff we use to pass the time with while we wait to die.
The truly great people of this world, like John Salk, Nikola Tesla, Charles Darwin etc. did what they did because they understood what had to be done, because they believed in the truth, sympathized with their fellow men - and not because they cared about any kind of personal gain.

I am sure that there are greedy people everywhere, but the thought that the rich could ever be considered slaves of the poor is so ridiculous that it makes me angry.

'Seldom'?? Seriously dude .. many folks want to work but can't ... but there are just as many that have chosen to be unproductive leeches. Welfare queens. Looters. Bad personal choices. Thats the truth of it.

Neither democrats nor republicans can claim moral superiority.

Bwahahaha. I love the people who compare food stamps and welfare to giving money to the needy. They aren't even remotely close to the same thing and it's so blatantly obvious that only leaves two choices: a) you have no reasoning skills whatsoever or b) you know it and are just trying to throw out false arguments in an attempt to make people you don't like look bad.

The govt forcibly taking money from you, of which you have no choice, and using it for all kinds of activities such as wars, weird sex studies, awful hateful art exhibits, abortions... and then a very tiny portion which buys food stamps for people who may or may not even need them. Really? The real truth is conservatives give to charities that actually help people on top of forcibly paying taxes.

I agree with you that neither democrats nor republicans can claim moral superiority. Such terms are completely redundant, and can only be considered subjectively - like happiness, justice, good/evil - and all that other weird rhetoric stupid like to use.

Either way - you are mistaken if you seriously think, that there are people out there, who would have ended up being either leeches, welfare queens, looters or any such, no matter what.
These are people who, as a result of their lives, have given up. They have no hopes for the future, and no respect for their fellow man cause he treats them like you do. With contempt.

But 99% of people have just about the same potential. Sure, there is the occasional Einstein (or at the other end of the spectrum Bush). But most of us are pretty average, and our potential productivity is closely related with our environment.

So - even though it might seem like they (the welfare queens) chose this life - I assure you they didn't. They gave up along the way, but the life they had was given to them.

Hmmm...this would seem to add a little context, but I like the simple premise..."What Would Jesus Do?" Ultimately, it doesn't seem to fuel a lot of conservatives, does it?

Wait, the government is using your tax dollars to fund wars, weird sex studies, hateful art exhibits and abortions and you are worried about the "very tiny portion" that goes to helping buy food stamps for the poor?

you are mistaken if you seriously think that there are people out there, who haven't chosen to be leeches and looters and welfare queens. NO ONE forced them to be unwed welfare parents with four kids at age 20 ... they decided that all on their own. Those people are out there .. lots of them. And while there are lots of people who legitimately need help .. there are also lots out there who are selfishly taking advantage of the system .. at our expense.

"Great art work"? Beauty is in the eyes of beholder. Looks primitive, hateful and propagandist to me. The premise of the post is clear though: to further develop liberal fantasies or deliberate lies. If you want to discuss greed - compare charitable contributions of your god Obama or his palace fool Biden with any one of prominent Republicans.
