Thanks. It is amazing the complex web we weave in our societies that many crimes are committed openly in the name of politics. Lobbying is up there. Pen is mightier than the sword..err guns in many cases

Difference? Between Lobbying and Bribery? Hmmm...

Bribery- The offering, giving, receiving, or soliciting of something of value for the purpose of influencing the action of an official in the discharge of his or her public or legal duties.
Lobbying- The process of influencing public and government policy at all levels: federal, state, and local.

In today's version of a government supposedly by, for and of we the people? Prolly not a lot.

The problem is that our government (and we by extension by demaning an increasing role of government in...well...everything) created lobbying. If government regulates and taxes companies, companies are going to try to influence government to prevent damage from government against themselves and help promote government restrictions against their competition. Get the government out of business, out of our daily lives, and you will see lobbying become worthless.

I think the difference is you have to be an elected official. Kinda like the difference between check fraud and deficit spending. Kinda like the difference between counterfeiting and quantitative easing by the Fed. You know, the difference is we are the serfs and they are the sovereign.

Well, since America is a welfare state and people can vote in politicians who promise them more and more free stuff at the expense of the producing class,..

so does the poor.

Bribery consists of a government official (in case of national governments) accepting payment for voting/endorsing in favor of the person/company/3rd party issue. They take the money for the purpose of swinging certain laws in favor of said 3rd party.

Lobbying consists of accepting money as a "gift" if said lawmaker or government official will merely look "more favorably" on a particular issue.

The loophole is that by calling it a "gift" it makes it perfectly legal to bribe if a bribe is rendered as a "gift" free of pressure. This is nothing new, they were doing this 2000 years ago in ancient Rome.

In essence all they did was just change the word and it becomes legal, the difference is the person accepting the "gift" doesn't "have" to look favorably upon the 3rd party, but in most cases they usually do so that they can keep recieving "gifts".

It's completely decietful, corrupt and dishonest, but just the changing of a word makes it totally legal.

The same difference between "wining and dining" a woman of low moral repute and paying directly for sex from a prostitute......

In order for it to be considered lobbying, one of the two participants must hold the title Representative or Senator.

For the second...only a Mr. or Ms. is required!

A lobbyist is someone who basically supports something, and may pay money to help influence something. But usually they don't directly bribe for something, they basically beat around the bush with it.

Bribery on the other hand, is when you come out right and offer money for someone to do something (usually doing it illegally) and may even threaten people in order to submit.

Lobbying is showing up to support something you stand for, and may put money into it to influence it more. And Bribing is just handing out money in the attempt to automatically get your way.
