Best analogy I've ever heard, lol.
Thanks. It is amazing the complex web we weave in our societies that many crimes are committed openly in the name of politics. Lobbying is up there. Pen is mightier than the sword..err guns in many cases

A 'pimp' is to a prostitute as a lobbyist is to our gov't.

Difference? Between Lobbying and Bribery? Hmmm...

Bribery- The offering, giving, receiving, or soliciting of something of value for the purpose of influencing the action of an official in the discharge of his or her public or legal duties.
Lobbying- The process of influencing public and government policy at all levels: federal, state, and local.

In today's version of a government supposedly by, for and of we the people? Prolly not a lot.

Lobbying is one of the main reasons USA is filled to the brink with corruption, bankster mentality, Monsanto poisoned food, endless wars through the continuous perpetuation of the military industrial complex, stolen funds and especially pension-funds by the Wall Street banksters, skyrocketing electrical bills allowed by the energy companies, and so on...

By the dark virtues of Lobbying, that should be outlawed, congressmen become millionaires during their served term, wandering the marbled filled halls of congress like big fat hogs, elections are rigged and the "elected" elite serves at the pleasure of the true elite (Rothschild/Rockefeller/Warburg).

We should also not forget that lobbying is the reason behind the inability to impeach and imprison that SOB in the White House because every stinking Attorney in washington is bought and paid for by the ruling shadow government pulling the strings of this black puppy and his cocker spaniel wife.

The problem is that our government (and we by extension by demaning an increasing role of government in...well...everything) created lobbying. If government regulates and taxes companies, companies are going to try to influence government to prevent damage from government against themselves and help promote government restrictions against their competition. Get the government out of business, out of our daily lives, and you will see lobbying become worthless.

Guess what people?

You are all lobbyists!

Create a thread, post a comment and you get rewarded for it via star's and flags.

Take a stance of either pro or con doesn't matter.

Someone either or will compensate you if they agree with your comment.

That is a lobbyist.

Completely legal to.

Bribery that is illegal 'lobbying' which is really nothing more than government's local and federal not liking competetion.

The biggest difference between lobbying and bribery is the amount.

Elected leaders figured out they get paid more cash the more laws, the more powerful laws they create.

Elected leaders have a lifetime guarantee of campaign financing via lobbying.

The problem is people are blaming a symptom for a disease.

Bribery small time chump change.

Lobbying well people should have a voice when laws effect them, sure money passes hands, but with government money always passes hands.

but wait !

What restrictions are there on gifts by lobbyists to members of Congress?

The general gift rule provision states that a Member of Congress or their staff may not accept a gift from a registered lobbyist or any organization that employs lobbyists. The term “gift” covers any gratuity, favor, discount, entertainment, hospitality, loan, or other item having monetary value.

What is a Lobbyist? - Frequently Asked Questions About Lobbying

if politicians can't take any gifts, what advantage is there to pass legislation that's favorable to any group ?

i don't get it

it all *must be* for the common good right?

Professional lobbyists research and analyze legislation or regulatory proposals, attend congressional hearings,

and educate government officials and corporate officers on important issues.

Lobbyists also work to change public opinion through advertising campaigns or by influencing 'opinion leaders'

it seems to be a corporatist arrangement.

millions of dollars involved !!

What industries spend the most on lobbying?

According to OpenSecrets.org, the following data was recorded by the Senate Office of Public Records. The top 10 industries for 2009 were:

Pharmaceuticals/Health Products - $199,323,702
Insurance - $122,065,251
Oil & Gas - $120,669,855
Electric Utilities - $108,163,536
Business Associations - $92,696,817
Computers/Internet - $88,847,937
Misc Manufacturing & Distributing - $84,363,782
TV/Movies/Music - $77,861,927
Hospitals/Nursing Homes - $77,465,842
Education - $73,913,389

ban lobbying ?

what would be the consequences ?

I think the difference is you have to be an elected official. Kinda like the difference between check fraud and deficit spending. Kinda like the difference between counterfeiting and quantitative easing by the Fed. You know, the difference is we are the serfs and they are the sovereign.

Bribery is usually done at smaller scales...but both are usually performed with tradeoffs...they are the same...

Well, since America is a welfare state and people can vote in politicians who promise them more and more free stuff at the expense of the producing class,..

so does the poor.

Bribery consists of a government official (in case of national governments) accepting payment for voting/endorsing in favor of the person/company/3rd party issue. They take the money for the purpose of swinging certain laws in favor of said 3rd party.

Lobbying consists of accepting money as a "gift" if said lawmaker or government official will merely look "more favorably" on a particular issue.

The loophole is that by calling it a "gift" it makes it perfectly legal to bribe if a bribe is rendered as a "gift" free of pressure. This is nothing new, they were doing this 2000 years ago in ancient Rome.

In essence all they did was just change the word and it becomes legal, the difference is the person accepting the "gift" doesn't "have" to look favorably upon the 3rd party, but in most cases they usually do so that they can keep recieving "gifts".

It's completely decietful, corrupt and dishonest, but just the changing of a word makes it totally legal.

What is the difference between lobbying and bribery

In order for it to be considered lobbying, one of the two participants must hold the title Representative or Senator.

For the second...only a Mr. or Ms. is required!

A lobbyist is someone who basically supports something, and may pay money to help influence something. But usually they don't directly bribe for something, they basically beat around the bush with it.

Bribery on the other hand, is when you come out right and offer money for someone to do something (usually doing it illegally) and may even threaten people in order to submit.

Lobbying is showing up to support something you stand for, and may put money into it to influence it more. And Bribing is just handing out money in the attempt to automatically get your way.
