My wife actually suggested the wasp spray last night, but I had the same reaction as you, kind of hard to carry that around with you.

Sounds like quite an adventure you had there! The guy is lucky you didn't catch him!
Last time I had to chase someone like that they were definitely not happy when I caught them (her). You should have seen the look on her face- I think she was in shock that someone my age could run that fast.
