As usual, you have your little group of Seniors that has to do that one last little, um , hoorah mischievous prank before leaving.
Now, I don't know about banning them from graduation altogether, but certainly a fine for the clean up is in order.

See what you think ATS:

Following a prank at East Carter High School, seven seniors were banned from graduation Saturday. High school seniors were banned from graduation after releasing 10,000 crickets into its halls as a prank.
East Carter High School in Grayson, Ky., stopped seven students from attending Saturday morning's celebration because of the cost of the cleanup.

www.nydailynews.com...

According to the principle, those critters were every where and it cost them to have to call in the exterminator.

The principle also revealed the students would not receive their diplomas until they had coughed up a collective $600 fine.

I know some people that would have gathered them for free for fishing bait.......

If it's bad luck to kill 1 cricket, what about 10,000..

I say fine the students [parents] the $600 and let them graduate with their class.
What say you.........

For less than 80$, they can go get a GED.

I've always felt the diploma is something that should be seen as earned...not given. It shouldn't be subject to ransom on last minute fines or penalties. Find another way, IMO. Make it a civil fine with Muni court if needs be. Whatever... but holding a fully class earned diploma just cheapens it overall.

No, don't fine the parents. Make them go to summer school, community service and then, maybe they'll graduate if they don't miss any days and they have to pay the clean-up cost.

I say that's fair enough.

Holding the degrees they earned hostage does not seem like a natural and logical consequence at all. A natural and logical would be to have them come in on the weekend and catch them all or pay for it to be done. Sounds like its been done so to pay seems logical. In fact, if this went to court I'm pretty sure a Judge would rule it as wrong to hold their diplomas. How many people are behind on student loans but have their degrees in spite of it? It could have been worse. The graduating class in front of me released a skunk in the school. That lingered forever.

That's what they should have done.....

Had the students come in over the weekend and cleaned up the mess.

Simple.....
No extra cost to the school
--Problem solved--

Except it sounds more personal since it's so extreme IMO

I'm assuming they also shoved crickets up that principal's ass too?
How else would he get so upset at the annual senior prank?

No diplomas until they clean the mess. They're idiots.

A joke is okay but stupidity should be punished, it is on ats.

Everytime I say something stupid on this site I'm fined.

You'll never get that gold border around your posts unless you clean your act up, young man.

Now, go sit in the blue forums and don't you even contemplate looking at the grey ones.

That's hilarious- and a ripoff! Back in my day, we did the same thing, only it was ladybugs.

People sure are uptight nowadays.

Back in '05 at my High School they did the exact same senior prank...I'm pretty sure no one got caught...But I guarantee that if they did the same thing would have happened.

I also find it ridiculous that they would ransom their diplomas...Their education has nothing to do with a prank! How can you hold both of them to the same standard. How can you deny someone there diploma after 4 whole years of hard work?! Even if they were expelled all they would have to do is transfer to a different school and immediately request there diploma...Its not like the senior prank would have any effect in another place. I feel as if it may be just a bluff, but I would like to see someone see it through one day just to see what happens.

I liked snakes.

You put harmless snakes in the refrigerator till they went into hibernation. then you dropped them in purses till they warmed up.

I have seen a lunch room in total panic as half the girls were climbing onto the tables to get away from a Coachwhip snake(red racer) going across the floor.
Putting a repainted red MK-76 or BDU-33 bomb in the grass in front of the school like it had dropped from a plane was one of the best.

Got out of class for a couple hours for that one.

A maintenance man with a high powered leaf blower could clear out the crickets in a day with only an occasional straggler- not really as big a deal as the administration is trying to make it. They have been trying to suck all the fun out of graduation for years. All the kids were doing was harmlessly blowing off a little steam. They shouldn't be barred from their graduation ceremony.

Why fine the parents when it's the kid's own stupidity that caused havok? You don't just go around doing whatever the hell you feel like without paying the consequences. Fine the kid and hold the diploma back. Maybe he'll think twice before doing something like that again.

I have to say I am disappointed that so many don't see a problem with this. And we wonder why the world is so screwed up today? It's because anything goes.

I graduated in 89 and even then something like that would have gotten you barre from the graduation ceremony. Actually the year before, some of the seniors brought beach balls to the graduation ceremony to bounce around as a joke. The next year it was made very clear that any such acting up would get you escorted out of the convention center.

Have them pay for the cost of clean up. Anything more than that is overkill, it was pretty harmless.

We released jars of grasshoppers around the school and dumped a bottle of bubble bath in the fountain in front of the school (more than once) during my Senior year.

The janitor just cleaned up the grasshoppers. The mass of bubbles in the fountain was pretty funny.
