It's an unfortunate hazard of war . . . SAS and SBS exchanged fire in the Falklands. But it does appear to happen way too regularly when American troops are in the vicinity, hence I was wondering about US blue on blue figures

The US were renowned for it in WW2. It's not a recent thing.

Sad thing is that, IMO, the 4 points made above make the incident worse i.e. if cut-off in the dark with no realistic identification of the vehicles, what are they doing opening fire?

I don't know all the details, but neither does anyone else here. Based on what I've read in the article, which is shorter than most posts in this thread, it sounds to me like these guys freaked out and started shooting when they should have taken cover and stayed cool.

But that's second-guessing them, and I really have no idea what was going on out there. Something led up to this for these guys to be ready to start hosing down anyone who drove by.

Obviously, they screwed up, and I'm sure just exactly how they screwed up will be examined in painstaking detail by plenty of people.

I'm just trying to avoid jumping to false conclusions, because I'm something of a non-conformist around here.

True, which is why people shouldn't rely too much on technology, US has the best by most accounts but still can't figure out the goodies from the baddies!

They "hose" down anybody who drives by, they do this all the time and is well documented. Many civilians, including women and children have been killed as their cars have been fired upon for no apparent reason.

Please dont make me provide evidence as it is nasty and too early in the morning to deal with that s**t

Not to worry, I'm not in the market for it anyway. I have already learned well enough how reliable news that comes out of war zones is.

I think Photographs are as reliable as you like. Added to the fat it is from multiple sources (including many accounts by US soldiers on how they would "light up" a car for any sill reason), makes it more credible than FOX or CNN assertions that your winning the War

Major shot by Americans

Shots ... US troops

FULL NEWS INDEX

By TOM NEWTON DUNN
PANICKY American troops raked a British military convoy with bullets shooting a major in the leg.

The US soldiers in a broken-down Humvee on the roadside mistook the patrol of Royal Marines for terrorists during a MIDNIGHT FIASCO.

The uniformed commandos were in two civilian Land Rover Discoverys CLEARLY MARKED with the words BRITISH FORCES.

Machine-gun fire peppered the front and back of one as it passed the Humvee.

The SAS were out of position and shot up a nearby SBS patrol, killing one of the guys. To make matters worse due to a clerical error they were given a lift home on the same ship. The SAS were airlifted to safety for their own protection!!!! Aparently the RN Guys were about ready to keelhaul them!!!

Well American soldiers are just made up of jail dodgers, illegal aliens and given substandard training by NCO's with the mentality of Billy the kid.

Basic training of US soldiers: 8 weeks.

Basic training of British soldiers: 6 months.

Go figure it out.

The story of capitalisim , everything is made on an assembly line mentallity
make more , make it faster, dont neccessaily make it right the first time...

Sorry guys but US soldiers could a little more pre-deployment training I have always said our casulties might now be so heavy if that where so.

I support my countries troops for doing something so contraversial and unsupported even though they are following orders and dying for someone's mistakes, but hey everyone knows the rest of the anti-war speal right?
