The Republican party was created to oppose the pro-slavery Democrat party.

Democrats created the KKK to terrorise blacks from voting for the GOP (they did a great job, their effect is still seen in voting trends to this very day)

Democrats have expanded the plantation to the entire country, ask LBJ how he guaranteed the black vote for the next 200 years.

Democrats still hunt down and lynch blacks who flee the plantation, ask Justice Thomas, Mia Love, Herman Cain, etc...

Who claimed Obama was clean, articulate and didn't speak in black dialect unless he wanted to? A Republican? Guess again.

Slavery, like all fascism, isn't about racism, its about control. Who demands more and more power for government, increasing its control over individuals?

Lets have a look at the real history of the Republican party, shall we?

Why black people are scared away from the Republican Party?

this article is sheer ignorance. let me preface my post by saying THE RIGHT/LEFT DICHOTOMY IS A LIE!!

ok, now that my opinion on the subject has been given perspective, i will address the topic.

Barack Obama, who will be the nation’s first African-American president, won the largest share of white support of any Democrat in a two-man race since 1976

Fully 96 percent of black voters supported Obama

www.politico.com...

while white voter percents were split 54% obama 44% mccain (from the same article).

i'm a firm believer in the right to vote (not privileged), and i'm also a firm believer that the U.S. needs programs to help people who have been down on their luck, but this creates a conflict of interest.

perhaps those who have voluntarily benefited from government handout programs shouldn't be allowed to vote during years that they accept the aid. different categories of aid may need to be developed and classified to account for short term aid recipients vs. chronic abusers, but how does promising more government money not constitute bribery?

just because i disagree with obama on policy doesn't in ANY way suggest that i am racist. is it racist to object to a bad idea? no!

yes...the republicans nourish the seed of racism *sarcasm* that's why every member of the black caucus is a democrat...and black. they stand for justice, equality, and diversity (if you're black). whites have tried to join before (democrats, mind you) and although the charter of the black caucus doesn't include race as a prerequisite, the response was "it is an unwritten rule, it's in the name".

the author of this article mistook that quote as saying "the melanin content of their skin, not by the content of their character"

What a political hit piece and complete re-write of history!

There are individuals within both of the major political ideologies who are racist; this will never change. The real problem we face is the institutionalized racism being perpetrated by the left. The word racism is almost exclusively brought up by the left and it’s been that way for decades. The left found an easy way to demonize its political adversaries and has been using it ever since it hijacked the civil rights movement.

I would argue that the only reason the left nominated Obama is BECAUSE he’s black. They knew his race would make it virtually impossible to attack him because the right is scared of being called racist. Face it, the man was a new Senator who accomplished absolutely NOTHING in his short political career prior to taking office. The man had absolutely no executive leadership experiences whatsoever prior to becoming Commander in Chief. This is a clear demonstration of racism by the left. The left uses racial tensions that they created in order to garner support! They used race to win elections and have done absolutely NOTHING to ease racial tensions or improve conditions for blacks in America.

Until the left stops using race to divide us and push their agenda, systematic racism will continue.

A weak attempt to rewrite history.

I find it about as effective as a Jedi mind-wave with the mutterings of "These are not the racists you've been looking for."

Just look at how progressives define themselves versus conservative folks.

Conservatives focus on the individual. Personal responsibility, individualism. . etc.

Progressives can't get past skin colour. To them it's all about groups, and classifications, and categories.

Progtards can write all the lofty essays they want, they can try to rewrite history all day long, but in the end, their actions will define them as the true racists.

"progtards"

Looks like conservatives can't even get past name calling!

What do you mean? The left is the one calling anyone and everyone that disagrees with them "racist." The epithet is so overused that it has lost any legitimate meaning.

Me too Beez

We're closer than we were - but, still plenty of work to do - clearly

It will take all of us - left, right and center

Onward and upward

As a concerned parent.. and a common sense kind of person,

The left have, and always will be the most racist people in the world. I care not the color of ones skin, but the content of their character. In contrast, the left will always try and destroy ones character if it not in line with their agenda.

Were the Democrats then also liberal? Or does it matter - if it's inconvenient to your point?

The Republicans/conservatives have changed - since the 1800s, since the 1980s - since last year for crying out loud :-)

So have the Democrats/liberals. How much have the two parties changed since the civil war do you think? You want very badly for the liberals of today to be the Democrats of yesteryear - but that's not how it shakes out

How did Liberals become Democrats and Conservatives Become Republicans? Levendusky Explains in “The Partisan Sort”

Levendusky presents data supporting his basic argument that voters have become more sorted than they have been at any point in history. When comparing the percentage of Americans who reported having liberal or conservative beliefs and identifying as Democrats or Republicans, respectively, we a marked increase from 28% in1972 to 46% in 2004. This number may be artificially low because it does not take into account the people who cannot identify themselves on the liberal-to-conservative continuum. In addition to sorting, there is some evidence suggesting voters have also become more polarized. This finding is not due to an increasing number of people identifying as extreme liberals or extreme conservatives. Rather, this finding is due to moderate voters starting to lean slightly toward liberalism or conservatism.

Conservative Democrat
Time passes - things change. And anyway - all liberals and all conservatives don't exist - not as separate, homogeneous, hive minded groups. They're groups made up of individuals. Groups, just like individuals - evolve, change, and they grow (hopefully)

Just look at how hopping mad people are in this thread :-)

And how easily they point their fingers - at who?

Too telling

The article is irrelevant, whats more interesting are peoples reactions imho.
For me the responses are the real meat and potatoes. How it is perceived by either or both or no sides. The discussion and how people formulate their ideas is what I'm after.

Leftism is leftism, regardless of whatever Orwellian name it goes by currently.

Liberal, for instance used to mean one thing, now is just the opposite. Liberal once meant liberty, as in freedom from a tyrannical, powerful government.

Today? Just the opposite. The goal of leftism is control, this is a constant that has never changed.

So, you're saying - you have no opinion about what's been presented in the article in your OP?

None?

You only did this as a stunt?

:-)

yeah - I'm just that annoying

P.S. Slayer - the article really isn't irrelevant - or it wouldn't be such a hot button
P.P.S - I am seriously interested in your opinion

The parties switched sides about 40 years ago.

I bet if you ask a nazi skinhead which party he's most likely to vote for, I'm 99.9% certain that he would vote for a Republican that favors "states rights" over a democrat.

Actually Nazis are socialists just like Obama and democrats. Nazis are also fascists that favor a strong, centralized government and would never support states rights. Of course being a Obama supporter I imagine it is easy to ignore facts and not allow them to get in the way of your partisan politics.

Nazi's have never been socialists, unless you created a new definition for them out of thin air. Nazis have wanted to keep alive only the white Aryan race, and exterminate all others?

The National Socialist Workers Party rose to power on ideas such as Socialised Healthcare.

Hmm, that sounds familiar.

Interesting how Robert Parry skipped over that whole period of american history when the "American Right" ended slavery.
Anyway, Racism has been present in America, as well as the rest of the world, throughout our entire history and both "left and right" are equally guilty in different regards.

LOL
That wasn't the american right that freed the slaves. In those days, the republican party was the "american left" in politics and the democratic party was the "american right." If you check your history you'll find that the dominant political party of the south, or the Confederacy, was democrats and the republicans represented the north or "free states."

It wasn't until Lyndon Johnson enacted the Civil Rights Act that the "american right" decided that they could not tolerate belonging to the party that gave equal rights to blacks, so the changed their colors and the roles of the two political parties were reversed.

Today, you will notice that the very same states that made up the Confederacy, under the democratic banner at the time, are now predominately red states controlled by the republican party.

You only wish it was as easy as saying your's is the righteous party because it was the party of Lincoln who freed the slaves, but if Lincoln were alive today I'm quite confident that today's republican party would soundly reject his policies.

I'm illustrating the base-racism that exists within the progressive movement.

That is ridiculous. The progressive movement stands for these things:

The Progressive is a monthly leftwing magazine of investigative reporting, political commentary, cultural coverage, activism, interviews, poetry, and humor.

It steadfastly stands against
militarism,
the concentration of power in corporate hands,
and the disenfranchisement of the citizenry.

It champions
peace,
social and economic justice,
civil rights,
civil liberties,
human rights,
a preserved environment,
and a reinvigorated democracy.

Its bedrock values are nonviolence and freedom of speech.
progressive.org...

Please do some research before labeling others and misleading people, beez.
