So history is wrong because neo96 on ATS says so? Please researche Southern Democrats and the Sothern Strategy.

Never said the history was wrong the part switching side is after all the party that is obsessed with race is still the Democratic party.

So much that they created the hypenated American moniker, and never shuts up about it.

ETA:

Senator Robert Byrd says everything.

If all the 'bad' people left to go to the right Byrd wouldn't exist, but he does.

Soooo...lets take this slowly...

If the racist once resided on the Left (still with me) but decided to bail and join the Right (become Republican)....what does that leave us with?

Not to get wholly off topic but there were other major powers in the Treaty of Versailles; mainly France and Britain. The United States signed a different treaty. The Senate did not ratify the Treaty of Versailles. The treaty we did sign effectively ended hostilities and that is about it. So what are you getting at?

There are, bigoted folks on both sides. There are even some that are truly racist; as per your example of Byrd.

That was the point, but as clearly be seen as the response's in this thread 'racsim' only exists on one side- the right.

Which people who can think for themselves instead of regurgitating left wing propaganda already know.

If you have any intellectual honesty...I'm going to shut you and your dancing down with ONE question: If we could bring a Southern, racist, slave owner back from the dead and give him the option of choosing Democrat or Republican...which do you think he would choose in todays climate?

The parties switched sides about 40 years ago.

I bet if you ask a nazi skinhead which party he's most likely to vote for, I'm 99.9% certain that he would vote for a Republican that favors "states rights" over a democrat.

Actually Nazis are socialists just like Obama and democrats. Nazis are also fascists that favor a strong, centralized government and would never support states rights. Of course being a Obama supporter I imagine it is easy to ignore facts and not allow them to get in the way of your partisan politics.

Don't forget as well that Nazis supported the infusion of government and big business, confiscation of all personal weapons, exclusion of anyone that didn't think exactly like them and accept their politics and beliefs as the one true party, etc, etc, etc....

Anything sound familiar?

The US imposed that upon Germany as a result of the first world war. That was us, not Hitler.

Although your argument is wrong, I will take the bait. So if the US imposed this upon the Germans, and these elements are associated with the Nazis, does it make the actions by the Nazis any less wrong (A simple yes or no will do, please)?

I wasn't making any sort of political statement about anything. I was correcting a commonly sited fallacy. The gun legislation that Hitler is often credited for was legislated by the anti-national socialist movement in 1928, five years prior to Hitler's shenanigans. Hitler's changes to the gun laws actually lifted some restrictions to non-Jews but added some racist restrictions towards Jews.

Sorry for the derailment.

ACTUALLY I POSE THIS QUESTION TO ALL PARTICIPANTS:

If we could bring a Southern, racist, slave owner back from the dead and give him a choice of Democrat or Republican, Liberal or Conservative in today's political climate, which party would he choose?

Now lets see who here has any intellectual honesty...this should end this square dance once and for all...

That leaves us with a racist Democratic party still.

Considering the sheer polarization that both parties have it is ludicrous to expect people to buy that excuse, and that is what it is an excuse.

Because the Democrats don't want to own up to their RACIST heritage that is still on display in modern America.

Calling for intellectual honesty and then presenting an extreme hyperbolic question? DZAG, this does not compute. One side will claim that the dead plantation owner would surely be on their side while the other will make the same claims. It proves nothing and your question is....nonsense.

The party that promises them free healthcare, free education, free phones, and tells them they never have to work a day ever again in their lives, all they want in return is their 'vote'.

Intellectual honesty ?

So where was that intellectual honesty saying 'all the bad people left the Democratic party' ?

Oh that's right there is none because they never left.

Come on man (woman), have you no decency? Use your common sense! Do you REALLY believe that the racist Democrats, who weren't even ashamed of admitting they were racist, would support THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT!!!!!!

I know it hurts to admit you've been following a party which harbors those racist Southern Democrats but.....COME ON!!! Quit playing (I hope) dumb. Look at the remains of the post by Robonakki (which had to be deleted). It's proof of Conservative and Republican racism amongst their ranks.

Mr. Confusion here. I think I have intellectual honesty, but I certainly have questions about your example.

If we could bring a Southern, racist, slave owner back from the dead and give him a choice of Democrat or Republican, Liberal or Conservative in today's political climate, which party would he choose?
Well, in today's political climate, he couldn't be a slave holder, but he might qualify for agricultural subsidies.

Does he hate Blacks, or simply sees them as inferior? If he sees them as inferior, Black rates of poverty, single parenthood, crime rates, unemployment might confirm him in his beliefs. He might even think that the welfare programs, as they exist, are very good at keeping Blacks "in their place."

George Bush is beloved through Africa for the money he funneled there for AIDS prevention. He is credited with saving millions of lives. Obama stages drone attacks on Libya. Your Southerner might go Democrat, I don't know.

If he hates blacks, I would think he wouldn't join either, as each party puts them in high positions and regard.

All this is a long way to say that, without knowing his motivations and why he might choose a party, I can't give you an answer.

The fact remains that Conservative ideologies are more attractive towards racists than Liberal ideologies. That is what the article very nicely points out and lays it out pretty clearly.

What fact are you pointing to? This is what has me a bit confused about your otherwise, thoughtful posts.

Considering "conservative" was only alluded to in the article, I can only assume that you equated "right" with conservative in your assertions.

Given that, can you tell me what facts point out that the "conservative" ideology" is more "attractive" for "racists"?

ETA:

Also, what in the article "clearly" points out these indications.
edit on 20-5-2013 by ownbestenemy because: (no reason given)

*Raises hand*

I can point out why conservative ideology is more attractive for racist.

It's because under conservatism we would have not radically ended slavery. We would have allowed it to eventually "die" out. Under conservatism principles, we would be able to continually deny minority advancement by simply wishing to stick to tradition. As an example, we wouldn't need a black president because we never had one in the past. It would be too radical to have one now.

Under Conservative principles, we could do away with Federal regulations which inhibit out right and overt racism and leave it up to "States Rights". Oh yes you all aren't slick LOL! See under Conservative principles, which faux are for individual rights, that business owner could choose not to serve or do business with blacks and other minorities. And before you resort to the usual "well that would be bad for business" no it wouldn't. This is a white country and thus the rules would be tilted in their favor.

Must I go on, or have I exposed Conservative Ideology enough?

I digress a little, as I do not want to imply that ALL racist reside on the Right. Of course there are still racist on the Left.

The point still stands that the racist in the Southern Democratic Party sooooo despised blacks that due to the Civil Rights Movement and the support by the Democrat Party, they could no longer stomach the Democrat party. What's even sadder is they found refuge in the Republican Party.

For real? Come on, you know that was a question what was a dead end. Any response would have been fanning the flame. You know that was funny and not ill-intended. We need to lighten up and segue this thread into something fun.

I'm not normally into derailing but I just don't see this thread going anywhere healthy from here. Sorry. Maybe it will lead to another thread about reconciliation between the two ideologies and an ATS agreement to not buy into the media stereotypes. That would be nice.

Exclusive: From the start of the Republic to today’s Republican ranting against Barack Obama, racism has been a central element of the American Right. But this ugly feature of U.S. history has often come concealed behind words praising traditions, liberty and states’ rights, Robert Parry reports.

By Robert Parry

Racism has been a consistent thread weaving through the American Right from the early days when Anti-Federalists battled against the U.S. Constitution to the present when hysterical Tea Partiers denounce the first African-American president. Other factors have come and gone for the Right, but racism has always been there.

Though definitions of Right and Left are never precise, the Left has generally been defined, in the American context, by government actions – mostly the federal government responding to popular movements and representing the collective will of the American people – seeking to improve the lot of common citizens and to reduce social injustice.

President Thomas Jefferson in a portrait by Rembrandt Peale.

The Right has been defined by opposition to such government activism. Since the Founding, the Right has decried government interference with the “free market” and intrusion upon “traditions,” like slavery and segregation, as “tyranny” or “socialism.”

I haven't posted a thread in a while. So, here we go.

I found this to be a rather interesting read and thought it would make a worth while topic for our members to discus, giving us their thoughts and opinions.

This should make for an interesting thread...

you need to read the hidden brain by Shankar Vedantam this books shows how we are all conditioned by the media into thinking we are racist even black kids are conditioned into thinking white kids are better than them. most people are conditioned by the media this is what it is used for to control and keep you in fear nothing else,
according to he research done into suicide bombers none of them are religious they just watch the media and want to stick up for there fellow countrymen who they see getting blown to bits by the scum that runs our world.

virtually everyone is racist this is how their brainwashing techniques work on us and if you think you are not brainwashed then take the IAT test this is the disclaimer on the site preparing you for what you are not aware of

I am aware of the possibility of encountering interpretations of my IAT test performance with which I may not agree.

Don't play stupid and avoid answering the question...

The fact you didn't answer tells all who read this what they need to know...

Are you educated and view yourself as a person with sense? So with sense, would you dare to say the hypothetical individual I suggest would be in the Democratic Party and have voted for Obama?

Just bow out of this discussion gracefully please...

Wasn't paying attention to the last 2 elections?

Of course under LIberalism(look up what the word means) we say racism in the Pigford scandal where we saw African Americans being rewards for 'trying' to the tune of billions of dollars.

So laws end racism?

Since when?

We have laws again robbing banks people still do it.
We have laws that say people can't murder others people still do it.
We have laws for a myriad of things that doesn't do anything but punish after the fact.
