There is something psychologically unhealthy about worrying about the Marines holding umbrellas for the President and a guest at a White House press conference. This is trivia.

Anyone who seriously thinks that the President is going to consult the Marine Corps Manual in a pinch, during a minor emergency, only goes to prove Malcolm Muggeridge's famous judgement on the United States as being the only country in history to have gone from infancy to senility without an intervening period of maturity.

It's fairly mind-boggling to me as well, how adult, intelligent people are more concerned about sports teams and whether or not a "Marine" held an umbrella and which religion is the 'right one' than they are about the health of the planet and the living things upon it.

Humanity is a disaster at this point in time. What a debacle.

Yeah - no maturity is right. This 'nation' is not even 250 years old yet and it's headed toward collapse. William Penn's 'grand experiment' may turn out to be an abortive one in short order. And he was here way before "Independence" from England.

England also seems to be going all to hell. Lame handbaskets on both sides of the pond, compliments of slavery and forced labor for the benefit of the FEW who don't give a fly's wing about anyone other than themselves.

My posts might have given the impression that I don't like Americans and their Republic, but nothing could be further from the truth. I want America to be the strongest, richest, most well governed country on the planet as long as they can do so with a minimum of military force and larceny.

I want the oligarchs to keep their positions in the society, but I want them to exercise discipline and not to drive the rest of society onto the breadline. Discipline is a virtue. It raises us above the animals. A strong Republic should have a strong and disciplined oligarchy, not a cruel and unfeeling oligarchy.

American elected officials and elected officials everywhere should not view an office as a license to commit crimes. They should not view the national treasury as something taken out of the pockets of the nation's working population in order to benefit themselves. They were not elected to steal.

America could be the richest, happiest, most liked country in the world, were it not for the self-serving paranoia of some people in positions of power.

People want peace and strong economy and that is what they are getting. The past has shown us that Obama will be like Reagan and Clinton. Coming into office in hard times and leaving with things much better. While Obama has not had scandals on the level of those to even if he did people do not care as long as they have peace and prosperity.

Peace-- like twice as many gunfights where we don't belong as when Bush finished?

in office the FIRST time? You've got to love it... How many countries are US occupying
now? It may be apparent to the sensibilitites of even this here mercury poisoned fifth
grader that anything over a hundred is a lotta footprints to be watching our sixes in.

Prosperity is a pretty subjective thing recently for people who actually have to work
for a living-- and can't find any even when vastly overqualified. I'll leave it alone, too much
personal bias on the subject since I might be making my posts next month from a lap-
flop and a hot spot in a coffee shop I can't afford water in. Yeah, that's my knapsack....
I call it home now.

For comparison I like these two quotes from my favorite southpaw con men:
A. on the stupendous gouging of energy prices, predominately nat gas on 23% inflation:
Jimmy Carter: "Get a sweater."

B. I'm not even going to examine this one, it's so glaring...
Obama: "We should be more like Europe."

A. I think the peanut butter is spread thin enough to be able to see the plate, bud.
Th' bread's been rubbed right off the whole planet already.

B. Most of us white European people were trying to GET AWAY FROM a place he
wants to turn us back into. Perfect. I'll have the Weimar Waffle and a side of
kerosene syrup... that Corexit 9527 is a little thin looking this morning, leibchen.

Thanks for your added clarification. I didn't think you sounded negative about Americans in general, and I agree entirely with what you've said.

No country is perfect, no government is pure, and relative to most of the world, we do have freedoms and opportunities - but not like we could have with a less oligarchic system.



I really had high hopes and expectations when George 2 finally left the white house....
but by then things were already derailed and we were blindsided by the bank corruption. Then the 'bail-out' happened, and since then, my faith in anything changing has really diminished to slim. Frustrating and frightening, both. Unethical and immoral, yes. Cheaters, liars, and frauds with no souls....what a fantastic lot of creeps they are.

The socialists plaguing western society will do anything to pass their agenda.

The problem with Obama (and his supporters) is they are starting to run out of other peoples money. The problem is people will start having to get off their asses and work.

Yeah, right. Blame the people who can't find work, or don't get paid enough to get by on. I have been unable to find even part-time MENIAL work, and I've applied to numerous huge corporations as well as several very small operations. I have never received 'free stuff', and even with an advanced degree, have never earned more than $25,000 per year.

I'm bilingual, computer literate, with decades of experience. I apply for a plain old cashier job, or an admin assistant, customer service, writing/translating, teaching, bean-cook, janitor, parking garage attendant....and I still get NO HITS, so don't tell me I'm sitting on my ass getting "free stuff". Temporary Assistance for Needy Families is ALREADY a time-limited thing, people can't survive on it forever. I never applied for unemployment bennies, either. We just sucked it up, cut our expenses, and pay attention to our budget.

I'm so sick of hearing you all whine about "other people's money" when it's the rich evading taxes and profits-above-all-else mentality of the corporate 'demons' who whine about "people sitting on their asses" and being expected to pay a proportionate and real "tax rate" to feed back into the system. Outsourcing to overseas pennies-per-hour slaves costs American's jobs - off-shore accounts and tax loopholes allow the private jet owners and yacht owners to get ever "richer" BY EXPLOITING the working classes' need for wages.

They are sharks, and politicians are silver-tongued, duplicitous liars. It's disgusting. And that's just the economy. Doesn't even address the bullying, know-it-all, holier-than-thou military/industrial monster that slaughters people by the millions with nary a wince. Sickening. And sending our strongest to do it in their names. The day the POTUS himself puts on fatigues and goes out to the front lines in Syria or Iran or anywhere else in crisis like Somalia, Mali, or wherever -- and takes his chiefs of staff WITH HIM, things might change.

An Apple executive explained: "We don't have an obligation to solve America's problems."

Yeah, well, that Apple executive is scum.

The World Bank estimates the total cost for a successful attack on malnutrition would be approximately $10.3 to $11.8 billion annually. Apple alone underpaid its 2012 taxes by $11 billion, based on a 35% rate.

It may be time to update [Apple's] quote: "We don't have an obligation to solve the world's problems."

No it isn't. They use the Navy ships for mobility, but the USMC is a seperate branch.

Anyhow, my actual thoughts on it are simple. since January of 2009, many people have been loudly proclaiming Obama is losing popularity, will lose, etc...he will be beaten in the next election by a shellfish if said shellfish runs.
And then reality happens
-shakes fist at the cold unforgiving moon- "Reality!!! You win again!"

So, will Obama lose pop during second term? sure..a bit perhaps, hard to say considering we are in year 1 of the 4 year ride, things go up, down, left, and right..todays problems will be forgotten tomorrow, and the character and charisma of the man in question will be the deciding factor on his legacy.
