Home invasions can be terrifying. Handing over control of your life to a criminal or chance is not where you want to be if you ever find yourself in this situation. In part 2 of the Ultimate Home Defense Security Plan series we show you that with a little preparation you can remain in control if this scenario ever were to play out. The highest security installations in world use these concepts to remain secure and they have been adapted for use in a residential setting.

Good sane advice and if you've done part 1...the guy will probably give up when trying to kick in the door as they'll of spent too long outside trying to get in so will attract attention and leave, also a take tips from watching the programs where they raid drug dealers houses as they have a serious interest also in slowing down unwanted intruders, perhaps also get a vibration detector and place it on the door and link it to the alarm as one kick and the alarm goes off which will wake everyone around you as well meaning you'll have neighbours turning up probably armed to check up on you (assuming nice neighbours)

From dealing with protecting financial assets i'd say try and have a proper surround of brick to fit the frame into and don't skimp of the bolts/screws etc and use all 4 sides of the door so any energy is transferred in all directions not just into one point and also consider putting a wrought iron door just behind the first one as like in a castle if the door is broken down the portcullis will allow you time, hell even a fly screen will add seconds as those things are annoying as hell when you're trying to climb through a door and have small bits of chain in the way

Yes, a screen door that opens outward and locks can also add a few seconds to delaying the criminal.

What exactly is a "fly screen"? I thought you were talking about a screen until I realized you mentioned chains being in the way.

Good stuff sir. Might want to recommend people to get bump key proof door locks. If they are going to beef stuff up, they should get the most bang for their buck.

Think chainmail curtain. Like what shops have over windows at night...though without the bottom anchoring bar.

Yeh just hanging chains but if you're trying to get through the middle of a door they're in the way so you have to push them out of the way adding seconds to your time

You could borrow a simple piece of ancient tech as well and brace the door with a nice fat piece of wood across the door from frame to frame so even if the door gives way theres still a 2x8 piece of wood across it slowing down the intruder

actually come to think of it all you really need to do is go back the the 15th century and imagine yourself as the commander of a castle and you'll probably be 99% of the way there when protecting your place
