He's Worth More Dead Than Alive

If you heard this headline from a major news organization, who would you expect this person is?
Bin Laden?
Hussein?

How about Michael Jackson???

This is literally the plug I just heard for an upcoming a 60 Minutes special. Michael Jackson is worth more dead than alive!

I don't know their angle, but I imagine it means his monetary wealth.
HOW can someone place a worth on a man's body of work that borders on genius level artistically??
What does a statement like this mean for a society that says his glove is "worth" more than Thriller, for goodness gracious?!

i saw a ad for the show saying they found a secret stash of his toy's and claim they are worth a lot of money.

I heard "He's worth more dead than alive" almost as soon as he died!

Some people believe that was the reason for his killing.

He created and sustained himself.
Aside from James Brown he was the greatest musical and performing talent I have ever witnessed.

And I don't say that lightly.
I don't dig his stuff, but I recognize its brilliance.

well his catalog of work is nothing compared to the Beatles , which he use to own but this with the right bidders, should bring a lot of cash for hi kids.

Well what else would it be? Certainly not his giving nature when it comes to children..

They said the same about elvis too. graceland made a lot of money after his death.

Not sure why there is confusion, about someone who made loads of money alive, being worth more now that they're dead.

He collaborated mostly with Quincy Jones, but he was a very capable musician in his own right.

He wrote a lot of his own stuff, sung like a champion and performed like nobody else.

In my estimation, the only better performer was James Brown.

You cannot put a monetary value on his art. Why? Because his art has influenced much of what we hear today. Much of the performances we see today. Michael Jackson is a freakin' cultural icon.

To say he is worth more dead is sickening.

Although I am not surprised to see you cracking wise about him, honestly.

When he was alive he was the butt of jokes about his alleged crimes and unconventional behavior. When he died the ridicule was mostly replaced by nostalgia. His brand is more marketable with him dead. Now that he is out of the way they will sell what is left of him, and profit from his legacy for decades.

His story is tragic. I have my doubts about his guilt with regard to the criminal allegations. Seemed more like a character assassination of someone who resisted his controllers. When you consider the circumstances of his death in light of his very frank statements about resisting the control of powerful manipulators and social architects I think its plausible that he was literally assassinated as well, if not acutely via overdose then slowly through heavy pharmaceutical abuse at the hands of shady doctors.

Regarding his "genius": Quantifiably comparing one musician to another demonstrates a lack of understanding about the nature and purpose of art. If you think the Beatles were better than thats fine, but its not a statement of fact. His art was not just about song compositions. Dance and vocal performance are viable artforms as well.

Michael Jackson was before boy bands.
He paved the way for boy bands and the Mickey Mouse Club. This is the immeasurable aspect of his career.

Regardless, it is beside the point. The point is that those headlines..."he is worth more dead", is what is wrong. Words are powerful, and those words are disgusting.
May as well spit on his damn grave.
