Are there usually many earthquakes around there?

Felt it in Gatineau (Quebec)

Nothing major but enough to make the kids uncomfortable...

On a side note, i just posted this on my facebook ( yeah i know facebook
)

Seriously, i think kids are like animals and are more open to their sixth sense cause both of them (8 months and 3yo) were very grumpy and very agitated. Running around the house endlessly and crying a lot. Then right after the earthquake, they both calmed down and the 8 months old went to bed and the 3yo is peacefully watching her cartoons...Weird.

Gatineau National Park is near where the earthquake happened. I'm not sure how to interpret this map. Does it indicate aftershocks or just different seismic detectors?

a 5 that's big up there, on the east coast should be felt for hundreds of miles.
Stay safe folks.

a 5 in California would get a couple of lines on page 6 of the dailies....all depends on depth and degree of motion. closer to the surface, greater the impact.

look at the times for the incidents, within a few seconds are the same incident at different locations.

Around here near Buffalo yesterday there were dead deer recently hit on the side of the road just yesterday morning. I must have passed about 4 cars hit. The deer must have known. All total about 7-8 deer laying dead on side of road on my short commute of about 15 miles. Food for thought. Nothing felt here though.

Is there a lot of fracking in the area?

Oklahoma has quite a bit and small tremblers seem to be increasing.

There are frequent little ones. Most people don't notice them.

The last big one was in 2010 (I thought it was last summer.) It was a magnitude 5.4, I believe and really shook our house in Toronto, although it was centered in the same general region as the one that happened today. That one was really felt all over the northeastern US and into the Midwest and down the eastern seaboard of the US.

* Downgraded to 4.4 as showing on the link there now. Quite a change in numbers.

I live outside of Rochester, NY and it is on our local news that people in Rochester felt the quake. A seismograph recorded a reading at a high school close to the city. I didn't feel anything this time but I know people close by who did. I did feel a quake that happened in 2010 in Canada that was only 1 hour east of the site of the quake today.

From today's quake there are reports that the quake was felt as far as 70 miles south of Ontario Lake into NY state.

I'm just thinking about this, normally i sleep in, today i woke up 2 hours before i normally would. I felt uneasy and restless in bed. So i got up and made my coffee, then sat at the PC. not 20 minuted after my desk filing cabinet and printer stand were all doing the Harlem Shake.

It lasted just a few seconds and was not nearly as prolonged or as severe as the 2010 quake where the house bounced so much that I ran out of my room thinking that the end of the house could collapse. It felt like the feeling you get when a large flatbed goes by on the road carrying something very heavy. A kind of bouncing feeling.

This one today was not nearly as pronounced. Just enough to vibrate the house rapidly up and down for a few seconds. The 2010 one felt like maybe 5 to 10 seconds of distinct shuddering. This one was a second or two of light shivering.
