STEP AWAY FROM THE SIGN, SIR!

Seems to me we’re getting closer to becoming Oceania.

A stretch of 10 Mile Road just east of Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills has officially become a test bed for a new brand of intelligent street lamp.

The Intellistreets system from Farmington Hills-based lighting contractor Illuminating Concepts places energy-efficient, wirelessly controlled LED lighting atop metal poles.

As options, the system also offers speakers, LED signs, cameras and crowd counters.

The poles along 10 Mile Road were officially dedicated Friday morning in a ceremony attended by U.S. Rep. Gary Peters (D-Bloomfield Hills), Oakland County Deputy Executive and CIO Phil Bertolini and Farmington Hills Mayor Jerry Ellis.

Illuminating Concepts founder Ron Harwood said the system was “born in the parks of Disney and Universal,” where “imagineers” sought better ways to guide huge crowds of happy people — and to keep them safe if anything dangerous happened.

After the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Harwood said, Intellistreets also took up the task of helping first responders and guiding crowds safely around disaster scenes to safety and shelter.

Basically, the signs can be programmed by authorities to show any message — a civic welcome, directions to parking for festivals or farmer’s markets, maps, pretty much anything the imagination can conceive.

In emergencies, they can also post pictures of children being sought in Amber Alerts or the location of toxic chemical releases or the paths of tornadoes (and more importantly, how to stay away from those dangerous areas).

Jeff Stribbell, business development director at Illuminating Concepts, said the signs’ wireless controls are double-encrypted, and the control center for the signs can reside anywhere the municipality or authority involves decides it should — right down to, for instance, the fire chief’s smartphone.

The Intellistreets concept has drawn online criticism from civil liberties and religious Web sites, where posters fear it will be used to track citizens.

Harwood and Stribbell dismissed those complaints and said there’s no such intent. Stribbell said the people-watching part of the signs is intended to collect information to be used in economic development and traffic planning.

And Harwood said of the criticism: “The irony is, the first, most important part of this system is to save energy. Its electronics are so smart that it can create light only as needed.” He called Intellistreets overall “a nonpolitical, life-saving, energy-saving invention.”

will add the other links as well here one that shows how it works www.intellistreets.com... and the other that does not offer anything new, as of yet still upgrading the site www.illuminatingconcepts.com...

There's one thing I really dislike about these stories based on pictures, they never give a specific location for where the pic was taken.

I searched out the photos to try and see as much background as I could. I made out 2 businesses near the sign. "Rice To-go" & "Foot Spa". That puts the sign at the corner of W Spring Mountain Rd. & S. Frontier St., Google Map here.

Now zoom down to street level and looky what is there:

Taken April 2011.

So they are not exactly "new".

That ABC news video report reminded me of scenes from that Stallone movie "Demolition
Man", the voice on those street lights..., I could just imagine it saying "You have been fined $200 for swearing in public, John Spartan".

creepy stuff.

Well when I am in Las Vegas, I actually live a few blocks from that location !!

I have driven by that intersection hundreds of times and I never noticed that sign !!

The W. Spring Mountain / Decatur Blvd area is part of Chinatown.

Anyone in LV know what the hell that sign IS or does ?

I remember that movie.

Or worse yet it could say “You have violated ordinance 25-4A. Please place your hands behind your back. Police have been dispatched to your location.”

It's not so much the signs and their capabilities that bothers me as much as who is on the other end - DHS.

Nice find!

You're right. This info has been out for a while though I haven't read one person who has heard about it. As I stated in the OP, INFOWARS broke the story in November of 2011 and LV isn't the only city. Detroit, Chicago and Pittsburgh as well.

I don't remember seeing street signs like that, but then maybe I didn't know what I was looking for? I had started to notice all the traffic cams going up around town, and especially one that went up right at the intersection near where I was going to school for my tech degree. But that sign looks unfamiliar to me. Thanks for posting. They sure are moving fast with the plan aren't they?

You did note that. My issue (not with you) is that the story makes it sound like these are brand new to the area.

Like I stated, these picture stories never give specific info and the only reason I can figure out why is some people just want to stir the conspiracy pot (Alex Jones is real good at that!!!) If they had given the location for the photo people could have looked it up themselves and realized that they were not new.

My take on what they are, looks like some sort of electronic hwy sign. I don't know the area, but maybe it is to deal with rerouting traffic due to congestion.

(BTW, I'm on board with Intellistreets being evil, I just don't think this is one of them)

A quote from your article... this just screams Agenda 21 to me

The $30,000 cost of the pilot project comes from $791,300 in federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funds, which the City of Farmington Hills received in 2009.

farmington-mi.patch.com...

This would be an aspect of urban development under the aegis of Agenda 21 to help keep the population under control after they squeeze everybody into little apartments.
The key words here: energy efficiency and conservation and grants

In fact, yep that Energy Grant is referenced here:

www.icleiusa.org...

And guess where that comes from?

Local governments have new sources of funding to further their climate action and sustainability goals, thanks to the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Yep, Obama's Stimulus

You didn't really think it was for fixing up the roads did you?
Hint, Obama's been doing this while everyone was focused on Obamacare. Remember he and his Socialist friends in Congress didn't get the Climate Energy tax they wanted, but this is what we got instead, and most people don't even realize it.

I think these signs are to designate pathways for those two wheeled vehicles that you ride on when you are too lazy to walk. I forgot what their names are, anybody remember, its on the tip of my tongue.

intellistreets.com...

Now just select the English version and there you go...

So now we are scared of street signs....

They already have a small black camera on every traffic light in America.

This looks like facial recognition.

It seems a bit pointless setting up an eavesdropping system and then informing everyone where it is active.

Not if they want you to get used to being eavesdropped on.

You're not wrong there, remember when surveillance cameras first appeared in our towns and cities, there were angry cries of "big brother is here" and now they are accepted as part ofr daily life, very worrying.
