Maybe they saw something they didn't want us to know about?

The financial sector, medicines, secret wars, oil, new technology, media and yes the planet where the so called gods came from. We no nothing about all of that. The truth is a guess. Citizens are sheep. Let s hope our shepherds are not so bad as some of us think they are. (I' m sure they are not bad at all)

Or maybe they were helpful aliens, and were trying to improve Kepler. Then they had a mechanical malfunction, looked at each other, and snuck away.

Great. Now all we need is Kepler coming back to us and threatening us, all the while looking for "The Kirk".

Seriously, it's just faulty gyroscopes.

I'm not sure if someone mentioned this in the thread already, but Kepler had 4 gears which allowed it to be positioned, it requires 3 to be functional. One of the 4 died a year ago, leaving 3, enough for operation. The one which recently died was the 2nd to fail. This leaves only 2 gears, not enough to control Kepler's facing.

My point being, if it were an attempt by some outside force than it took them two tries to disable it. Faulty equipment, nothing more, nothing less.

Right on! And I believe it was the same team of alien experts who "tuned up" Kepler, who earlier caused the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. Connect the dots!
