Isn't this just called being a single woman who swears off men ??

Huffington Post

A 36-year-old North Dakota woman who married herself in a commitment ceremony last March has now spoken about her self-marriage choice in an interview with Anderson Cooper ...

"I feel very empowered, very happy, very joyous ... I want to share that with people, and also the people that were in attendance, it's a form of accountability," Nadien Schweigert told Anderson Cooper.

Schweigert said the ceremony was a celebration of how far she'd come since her painful divorce six years ago that led to her two children to decide to live with her ex-husband.

She took herself out on dates.
She made the commitment ceremony to herself with family and friends present.
I'm wondering how the wedding night went.

I'm wondering how the wedding night went.

I'm going to assume that was a quiet and lonely affair of taking solutions into one's own hands. Whole new meaning to Self-Reliant, eh?

Oh course..I'm sure she has no ego and is just as Humble as the meekest Monk in a Tibetan Monastery. Both of her. lol... Thanks for the share on a lighter side of things.

I assume you are married?
Some people would rather be single and not deal with the egos and there is nothing wrong with it.
You chose your path and others choose theirs.

In some cases, the wedding night could be a letdown....her wedding night might have been better then others.

Hopefully she doesn't cheat - I hate seeing marriages end from that crap...

i didn't know this was legal.

also... a divorce would really tear her apart!

You assume correctly, for how it plays to this..anyway.

Oh come now.. everything always so serious around here.

Can't you see a little humor in the statement it makes for someone to say they are marrying themselves? There are statements made, statements written and then statements written by skywriter planes on a 4th of July Weekend. This falls a bit short of the last, but not by that much... lol

Of course I see the humor.
I got ordained as a priest on the net and if you fall asleep at any party i have....you might wake up married to your buddy who passed out next to you.

I won't go into the horror of the awkward wedding night there.

I like this girl...most people are scared to be alone...she has guts.
I like it.

Hell...I might marry myself and then sue for half.
I am afraid of lawyers though.

Each to their own and all that. But... no wonder her kids chose to live with their daddy

It's a commitment ceremony. I don't think it was done through a town hall or anything ...

Is this legal, for tax purposes?
I mean, can she now file as married, for a better tax break?
Might be a brilliant idea.

Doesn't seem like a bad idea to me, either way, if I was still single.
I say good for her.

She has learned to like, love and forgive herself. She has made positive changes in her life; she has learned to be her own best friend; she has taken responsibility for her actions...past and present. This woman is having a romance with herself...I say...good for her!

Also...when I think about this...she has built a wonderful foundation for relationships with others too. I think she is a very healthy person.

I hear you.. But, surely if she'd REALLY learnt to like, love and forgive herself, she wouldn't feel the need to 'marry herself' to prove it

Actually, what I would have done is take myself off on a round-the-world trip to prove to everyone, but mostly myself, that I'm an independent, confident woman. Much more fun

Hmm.

So...did she take herself home to meet her parents?

Must have been awkward.

Oh man, I'm too late, someone already posted a similar thing
