M7.0 - 28km W of Agrihan, Northern Mariana Islands 2013-05-14 00:32:26 UTC
earthquake.usgs.gov...

Haven't checked for any news reports yet, I'd just laid down to go to sleep & sensed something was amiss & felt a strong need to check the USGS.

I don't know how populated the area is, either, or whether or not there is a tsunami risk. I'll look for tsunami warnings & post it if there is one.

I certainly hope everyone in the area is ok.

I wish them the best.

Deep (around 600km) no worries, other than possible aftershocks

I completely misread the depth of 566 km as 5.66 km, so no tsunami warning needed. No news sources on it yet, either, & refreshing the USGS info page shows a DYFI intensity of II (2) thus far. Hopefully it was very minor & didn't rattle much, considering the depth.

It was about 26 miles from the nearest island, Agrihan, which is a stratovolcano island & uninhabited according to Wikipedia. The nearest populated area I know of is Saipan, 245 miles away. I'm sure it was felt, but it probably wasn't very strong.

...and on the day of two X class flares, just wanted that on for the record. I know they were not earth directed, but...

Thank you for the news, Giorgio.

Well done.

Now get some rest.

We will need your powers to be at full strength.

Calling it 3.2 + now, wow, 3 X flares in one day. Lets see if the EQ's start doing the same, 7.0 and counting.

This might just push our magnetic poles just enough to flip them
oh crap.

Or might cause chaos on earths communication and power infrastructure.

I know this is going off topic of the post but I agree, the only thing that will save us is that the spots tend to diminish once they face the earth. Problem is they are getting stronger all day, we can only hope that one or more do not hit the earth once it squarely faces us of any significance.

U know we are in trouble if it keeps blasting bigger and bigger flares as it aims towards us.

Im backing up all my current data to my second computer as we speak.

Its 10 feet underground in the backyard in a 5 inch lead container which is insulated against rust.

GEOFON reports the EQ as a 6.4 mag.

I wonder which agency is right?
