This sounds like a tragic mistake not only for the victim, but also for the soldiers concerned.
I think anyone in Sadr City would be extremely 'touchy' and confusion could easily reign in
the heat of the moment.

TWO US army soldiers face murder charges at a military trial in Baghdad for shooting and killing a badly wounded Iraqi teenager mistaken for an insurgent, the Los Angeles Times reported today.

The newspaper quoted the two army staff sergeants as saying they shot and killed the Iraqi boy in a "mercy killing" as he lay on the ground in an August incident in the Baghdad slum of Sadr City.

The two soldiers told US officials they killed the teenager in order to "put him out of his misery", the newspaper said.

If convicted, they could receive the death penalty.

"mercy killing"? "put him out of his misery"? Those comments really does little to help their case, it sounds like they're talking about a roadkilled animal.

Sounds like its either a bad cover story for them, or the soilders really were trying to help.

this isnt really supprising after what some of the US troops have done.

and the soldiers deserve whats coming to them
shooting someone that is armed and a threat is one thing
but shooting someone when they are down is another

It happens more often in war than you might think and not to just the enemy either.

It might be hard to believe but they might have been doing him a favor

If this indeed was an actual case of doing this kid a favor, then hopefully whatever evidence there is will support this claim.

*note to self shoot Durden when he is down and no threat*

That is no better than the beheadings. Think about it.
