For me, I have to choose 2 songs from movies that have touched me a lot.

First would be :

Gary Jules' version of Mad World from Donnie Darko. Awesome song and fit the movie just perfectly.

The other is gonna be :

It's The Liars - The Other Side of Mt Heart Attack, from the movie The Nines. Just a great song which, again, fit the movie excellently and has a lot of deep mening to itself even without the movie. It's been in a couple of other movies, as well.

I also have to second the nomination for Rainbow Connection from the Muppet Movie, as well as the Star Trek Motion Picture Overture.

This was the number one hit the year I was born. My parents were musicians and loved this type of music. It is my favourite song of all time; confounding people I know, because I mostly listen to (very) heavy metal. xD

Mom had me into musicals at an early age. Still love them and vocals are IT for me. I used to be able to sing this well...well, a quarter million cigarettes ago. Check out the black woman at the beginning of this one. POWERFUL voice:

I'm a metal head but these songs move me.

"Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler from the movie Beaches with Midler and Barbara Hershey. That movie was such a tear jerker for besties back then! And I've always been a fan of Bette Midler anyway.

Being a huge fan of movie scores, there are just too many to name. But I'll post a few:

Saw III OST - Baptism

Original Saw theme - Hello Zepp

I am Legend - Main Theme

Twister OST - Van Halen - Respect The Wind

And just so many more...

The opening song to "The Gallant Hours (1960)" a WW2 movie about Admiral William F Halsey with James Cagney. It sends chills down my spine every time I watch it.

excellent thread!

my song choice would be from The National - About Today, from the movie Warrior (2011). Whenever I see the scene below, it always gets to me.

Good movie also.

On a related note, has anyone ever seen the Macaulay Culkin movie where he plays this kid who lives with his aunt because something happened to his parents, and they go to a motel where he meets a man he suspects is Santa Claus? The hotel manager throws a Christmas In July party and a bunch of stupid but funny stuff happens. I've tried looking everywhere for it, but I can't find it. There's a possibility the kid just looked like Culkin, but I'm not sure. The title made a reference to Christmas too.

The reason I'm asking is because there's a scene where his aunt sings about 30 seconds worth of song to put him to sleep. I've always liked the song, but I've forgotten the movie it comes from so I can't find it!

# Have to agree with VictorVonDoom for " Ever Green" sung by Barbara Striesand

# And with missvicky for "The Wind Beneath my Wings" sung by Bette Middler

There are also two instrumental sound tracks I love listening to

# The music from Dr. Zhivago

# and the music from Lawrence of Arabia

I bought the 8-track soundtrack to Star Trek: The Motion Picture and played it right along with my Pink Floyd, Kansas, Boston, Led Zep and all the rest!

Thanks for the memories

The arrangement of Stand by me from the movie Stand by Me.

I always find it melancholy but equally as beautiful.
