Boston police commissioner says his department was not notified of Tsarnaev concerns

WASHINGTON — Boston Police Commissioner Edward F. Davis told Congress this morning that his department was not informed, in the days before the April 15 Boston Marathon terror attacks, about a Russian intelligence warning about bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev or about Tsarnaev’s travel overseas.

The revelation drew outrage from members of the House Committee on Homeland Security who were holding the first congressional hearings into the bombings.

This just increases my suspicion of the Boston Bombings.

Why was the police chief and his department not informed of the warnings from Russian intelligence? This sounds like the Bush Administration ignoring Osama Bin Laden's warnings.

Was it done purposely? I don't know. But there's definitely some odd things about the Boston Bombings, and the suspects.

SO...I heard a few security/intelligence folks discussing this the other day on the radio. The Russian warning was non-specific...

"follower of radical Islam" and was preparing to travel overseas. The FBI says it interviewed Tsarnaev and found no evidence of terrorist involvement.

The list that Tsarnaev was placed on? Over 600K people on that list. Folks where they have suspicions, but not evidence.

So the idea that he was "flagged" in some significant way is not accurate IMO.

They have multiple "lists" of varying degrees of "watch"...and travelling + Radically religious? easy to flag in retrospect...but there are 599,000 other folks on that list as well.

He was as you say, 'flagged' but more than once. Police also had some 'mundane' intelligence on Dzhokhar Tsarnaev when his car was stopped over reported possible drug related incidents, although that is not to say the police had suspicion of anything of a terrorist nature, but his name was on their books. Then there was the fiasco over the releasing of the suspects pictures and the several times delayed media conference, what was going on there? and by that time both of the brothers names would have been known to the police. What is not clear is if the older brother was also on the police books because of the unrelated drug killings, even as an innocent associate of those who were killed. You have to bear in mind that the police commissioner is talking about knowing nothing of a terrorist nature, of any kind by default.

My point being that the intelligence community has several "lists"...ranging from very vague "suspicious" to "WATCH this guy"...

The list that Tsarnaev was on...him and well over a half million other Americans...was a list of the vaguest suspicion...and I do not want local PD having access to a "suspicious" list that the CIA uses only as a general data point in larger investigations...a list that includes 600,000 Americans, that has no proof or evidence. It will lead to false arrests and persecutions. It will lead them to arrest and interrogate innocent folks. It will be one of the few genuine realizations of "Tyranny" that everyone freaks out about. No problem with evidence based lists...but the one that Tsarnaeve was on...no...the cops shouldn't have that list.

You can argue that Tsarnaev should have been on a different list, more heavily targeted to watch...but for what Homeland security had on him, it did not warrant notifying Boston PD IMO. Russia didn't sharre a lot.

Hmm,sounds familiar we have read this in various reports about all the warnings in the days leading up to 9/11.Perhaps the information just slipped through the cracks or The Bureau and DHS simply did not consider them a threat.Although,I personally think it was purposely withheld.

As I've asked before.Hasn't any agency conducted any kind of background check BEFORE allowing them admittance.Chechnya isn't exactly like Tibet if you no what I mean.At least one lived and we will get some answers from him I'm pretty sure.
