This was a very vivid dream of mine. Strange because I hardly ever dream. This one surely was a nightmare.
Let me set the scene:
It takes place in an apartment complex at about noon. It’s a sunny and warm day out. People are hanging out outdoors enjoying the weather. Grilling out front of the apartments, children playing. Apparently I’m heading off to work. (This was usual when I worked at a tattoo parlor and lived in these very apartments I’m describing)

It started as me walking out to my car from my apartment. As I was unlocking my car I heard two gunshots and screaming. I looked up to see people running, but as they ran falling from gunshot wounds. I made my way toward the sound of the gun to see a man standing by one of the porch doors with a M16 (or some other sort of semi auto rifle, I didn’t pay much attention to it).

This is when we locked eyes. The shooter saw me and like in slow motion, his rifle was moving towards me. I quickly dropped into the prone position behind a car. The shooter began to dump rounds at me, but never leaving his position on the porch. I can remember the sheer terror I felt, that not only was I about to die, but the fact that I couldn’t help save the rest of these people. I remember thinking that I HAD TO FIND A GUN so I can shoot back.

At this point the shooter was laughing and said, “ok mother ****** I got something for you”. I snuck a peek from around the car to see him pulling up a shotgun. At that very instance I ran, thinking I had time to potentially get to another safe spot before he was staring down the sight at me. A shot went off, but apparently he missed. I made a break for the other side of the apartment complex. I kept thinking my main mission was to get a gun… something I could use to end this. (For some reason the thought of police EVER getting there never crossed my mind. It’s almost like they didn’t exist at this time)

Shots and screaming were still loud and clear. As I was passing this car (on the north side of the complex) I noticed another gunman. He didn’t see me because I was moving in a crouched position, low enough to see, but not exposing myself too much. He was focused on a couple in a car. They were pleading and crying…”please don’t” is what I remember most. He was smiling. I turned away to run up to an apartment that may potentially have a gun in it when I heard two gunshots. I knew those folks had been killed… but then I heard crying… there was a baby in the backseat of this couples car. My heart dropped and I turned around.
I could see him about 30-40ft away with a damn smirk on his face… then bang.

That is when I woke up.
Awful dream that makes me sick to my stomach even writing this. Not sure what it means… And I sure as hell hope it’s not a prediction.

EWW!

Here is to hoping it is just from watching all of the crap on tv lately!
*raises coffee cup*

I had a similar dream about a gunman with an AK 47 ripping through my apartment complex not that long ago, so you are not alone in these dreams. I think perhaps it is just because of all of the violence in the news lately....at least I hope that is all it is.

I had a dream where I turned into a unicorn and I could go to the boston bombing before it happens and let the people ride my back to saftey.

Dream was nuts. Made me feel like I was going crazy or something. But I figured no need to worry, because rarely do I dream... and when I do, nothing becomes of it. I just think its my mind being absolutely proposterous.
--Why can't I just have a dream about some of the news reporters on telemundo..

Your dream made my stomach turn. I visualized and felt everything you detailed. I'm sorry you went through all of that. What a tragic event to witness, even if only a dream, it was very powerful and descriptive.

It really sucks having those types of dreams - feeling helpless to the victims, feeling panicked even upon waking. I bet you can still see the shooter's face, can't you? You're probably wondering if an event similar to your dream will soon unfold? Will it happen in your own neighborhood? Were you shown something? (precognitive dream)

If so, what in the hell are you supposed to do about it, lol ? Share it with a bunch of people who'll make you feel silly? Dreams are what brought me to ATS and I'm glad you shared. I encourage everyone here to do the same, without the fear of ridicule, should they feel inclined to do so.

I'm glad you aren't bombarded with these dreams very often. They can take a heavy toll. Hopefully someone here can help you with interpreting the meaning behind them, if there is any. I can't find the meaning behind my own dreams let alone anyone else's. What I have learned to do is control them in such a way, particularly with my "doom porn" dreams.

I get these "water wall" or tsunami dreams every so often, they are quite terrifying as well because usually my children are in them. While I can't stop the water from coming, I give myself a mental warning that allows us to escape. I started doing this dream controlling thing after too many nightmares of dying with my children in a wall of water.

While reading your OP, I had hoped you were also going to eventually gain this mental control and miraculously defeat your shooter. I think you tried VERY hard and the failure to save the victims in your dream devastated you, naturally. This feeling most likely lingered a while.

I'm not sure how I learned to control my dreams, but if you want to learn the process, I'm sure it's not that difficult. I'm currently helping my daughter who struggled with night terrors, sleep walking, sleep paralysis... all kinds of weird crap since she was a toddler. Now she only has the occasional freaky dream, we're getting there lol
it's a process.
