What's happening in Syria? Did their goverment use a internet kill switch or has something serious just happended?

At around 18:45 UTC the OpenDNS resolvers saw a significant drop in traffic from Syria. On closer inspection, it seems Syria has largely disappeared from the Internet.

Their seems to be concerns of possible infrustructure damage.

Effectively, the shutdown disconnects Syria from Internet communication with the rest of the world. It’s unclear whether Internet communication within Syria is still available. Although we can’t yet comment on what caused this outage, past incidents were linked to both government-ordered shutdowns and damage to the infrastructure, which included fiber cuts and power outages.

If their internet is down, I dont think that the Syrian government would be responsible.

The internet has been their primary source of disputing the claims and allegations being made by the so Western backed "rebels".

I would be more inclined to believe that the West has severed their internet access in an attempt to prevent the flow of information not authorized by the establishment.
