A Lot of Military Aircraft Lately

This thread is a general question, I was wondering if anyone may have information on why there has been so many military aircraft in the skies above central New York lately? This has been going on for a little over a month, on average, several jets can be seen every hour, and a what looks to be a bomber once throughout the day around noon, everyday. Last year around this time and for as many years back as I can remember, seeing any jets or military aircraft of any kind, happened maybe once a month. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on to what could be going on, this curious mind would like to hear them. Thanks!

Now i can not tell you about New York, I can tell you about Lawrence KS, for the last two to three months i have seen an increase in Military helicopters flying back and forth. It was not uncommen to see a squad fly past once or twice a month but as of late I have been seeing two to three groups of 4 helicopters flying back and forth two to three times a week. I would guess it has to do with training or moving of equipment or troops. I'm sure that some one with some knowledge will be chiming in soon.

I saw a C-130 fly real low overhead the other day here in SW Colorado. A friend told me one flew over his house a week or so ago as well. I dunno, you hardly ever see military stuff here.

In NYC they are getting ready for the wormhole to open and Loki's invasion army to come through. They don't know when, but I hear the Avengers are on standby as well.

I would guess that there are some training exercises going on?

I just think it is weird, never having aircraft activity before to all of a sudden jets all day long. If it is military exercises in my area, my next question would be why? There is not much around here, Griffis Airforce Base, but I don't believe that is active, I am not sure on that, and a couple of nuke reactors. I mean, one or two jets here and there throughout the day I could understand, but several every hour? I just went outside and more jets were flying overhead. What type of exercises would they be doing? Are they expecting something?

You should be thankful, you have the worlds strongest military protecting you in force.

I'd love to see my house surrounded by tanks with jets overhead. I hardly doubt a thief is going to attempt that.

Maybe they haven't spent all their money in the budget for the year so they figure they better increase activity to use up gas otherwise Congress might not give them as much next time.

Maybe some general wants to impress his girlfriend by showing he can order flights of jets in her honor.

Who knows.

Meh, I was let down.

On topic: I haven't really seen anything out of the ordinary here. A stray blackhawk the other day, but that's not that unusual.

Dunno about NY, but we're in the San Francisco east bay area in California, and we've definitely noticed an increase in the last couple months, especially the last few weeks. A lot less commercial passenger planes, and a lot more low-flying military and unmarked helicopters, crisscrossing and circling. Last weekend it was almost constant, nonstop all day. Really unusual sounding aircraft, also, loud whirring sounds and loud low rumbling. A low rumbling has been going on, too, really frequent, unusual...

Well, thank you all for your input. I guess we will wait and see what happens... If anyone finds out anything please share.

I live in Big Bear California. Small Mountain city, We have a small Military base up here. There use to be rarely any Military training's up here. Now everyday you see military jets and helicopters all over, And military escort vehicles. Well not to surprised now, Since Big Bear is home to the Military's Star Wars Defense System. It protects the west coast of America. In San Diego,California, There has been a lot of Military training's off the coast of San Diego lately.


This gets me to believe the American Military may be preparing for a war.

I to live in central New York and I've noticed a lot of activity. I've seen a group of C-5's flyover had to Griffis base I was always wondering why the activity has increased much more than I've ever seen for the past 22 years that I've lived here

What makes you so curious for me is that the night there was a storm I've counted seven C-5's flying overhead at night and you have to ask yourself why and what are they doing

Those flights are funded by our tax dollars so we have a right to know what they're doing regarding national security or not
