I knew before clicking into this thread that the Auzzies would be appalled at the very notion, however I can think of a ton of entertainers who have made America their jumpstart to fame and fortune who hailed from the land down under.

You guys may think you hate us, but if you ever got your butts in a sling with a WW scenario, we would still have your back.

This is right up there with the petition that has been presented to get Obama to call the Jacksonville Jaguars and force them to sign Tim Tebow.

Seriously, does anyone actually think this has any chance of getting passed?

The problem with having the USA at your back is the sheer amount of $$$$ it would cost if they had to save us.

The lend lease agreement screwed Britain for a whole generation.

A fiend who thinks of how much he can make saving you ......... you get the idea.

And as for the negative comments about American obesity:

Obesity in Australia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to 2007 statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), Australia has the third-highest prevalence of overweight adults in the Anglosphere.[1]

Obesity in Australia has been described as an "epidemic"[2] with "increasing frequency."[2][3] The Medical Journal of Australia found that obesity in Australia more than doubled in the two decades preceding 2003,[4] and the unprecedented rise in obesity has been compared to the same health crisis in America.[4]

Australian adults

In 2007, the World Health Organization (WHO) found that 67.4% of Australian adults are overweight,[1] ranking 21st in the world, and third out of the major countries in the Anglosphere, behind the United States (ranked 9th) and New Zealand (ranked 17th).[1] A 2005 WHO study found that just over 20% of Australian adults are obese,[3] which is expected to rise to roughly 29% in 2010 if current trends continue.[3]

en.wikipedia.org...

They recently held a workshop in Geraldton, in WA's Mid West, to discuss growing concerns regarding obesity and the damaging effects on children.

Dr Lobstein says Australia's diet has changed dramatically over the last 20 years.

"We've found that your diets here in Australia are more fatty and oily than American diets, and we thought America was one of the worst in the world," he said.

"You've overtaken America. Your diets are now 40 per cent calories from fats and oils and that's a pretty shocking statistic - you should be down nearer 20.

"Your sugars are high, alcohol is about double what's the recommended level of intake and your fruit and veg are a bit under par."

He says the rate of obesity in WA is appalling.

"By the time you are middle-aged, the statistics in Western Australia are 82 per cent of men and 68 per cent of women are overweight or obese. That's pretty shocking. That means you've got a four out of five chance of being overweight,' he said.

You can eat your rude and uninformed comments about Americans thank you.

Nah the American tax payer always picks up the bill. Without guns to protect yourselves, an American GI would look like an Angel on your shoulder if it ever came down to it.

Really I know how proud Australians are, and with those waves they have every right to be. It would be a bad idea at this point in time to consider a merger. Perhaps they figured since we do have surfing in common, and get along pretty well for the most part, it could be a first step in a One World Union. At some point all the lines of separation will be erased and then humanity will stand united and ready to take it to the next level. We are not there yet.

If you look around that White House site you will find some loony petitions show up from time to time. Combining American and Australia is a nutty idea and not even remotely possible. it is most likely something which brewed up over at /b/ or reddit and someone thought it would be funny to make a petition and see how many Americans would actually sign it. I am surprised so many people have actually signed the thing. Some people will agree to any nutty idea which floats to the surface.

Dear gps777,

I LOVE my new country... I do not miss the states at all, except for a few friends.

I feel VERY blessed to be allowed to live here with my dear wife. I wish I could have been here ages ago.

What a wonderful life, and absolutely lovely country. Queensland has stolen my heart forever.

I get very emotional about it all, like I escaped a hell hole, and arrived at heaven.

My wife and I some day hope to be able to see most of Australia, she has been a Brisbane girl her whole life.
She hasn't seen much of her own country either. We hope to explore it all someday. Lord willing, and our health holds out..

I am honoured and humbled to be living here, and look forward to citizenship down the road.

So many here in Oz just don't know what they have; it is all they have ever known. I have met refugees from other places. Survivors of wars in far off lands who now live here; and everyone of them is very grateful and love it here in Oz.

NONE of them have any desire to make Oz like where they came from either! And the LAST thing on Earth I EVER want to see is OZ become like America!!!! GOD FORBID!!

To me this Oz is a paradise, a slice of heaven. Wish I could live 500 years to just begin to see all of its treasures.

Australians are so very lucky to have such a place to live.. I hope and pray they/we can keep it that way, and preserve it from any coming wars, or destroying its natural treasures. The whole country needs to be declared a world treasure, a place to be protected from the worlds insanity, HANDS OFF OZ....

Pravdaseeker

Darn it prav, now you've gone and done it. Every man and his dog will want to come here

He's completely wrong everybody. Australia is a hole. If you want to do yourvelves a favour, stay away, far far away. The people are mongrels, there are really nasty nasty bugs and beasties that will crawl into your beds while you are asleep (and that's in the cities and towns, there are even worse critters in the bush) save yourvelves, stay away

There ya go prav, that was close but now we'll still have space around us. so next time you decide to fib about this terrible terrible place .................. don't

by the way, I have 129.5 bush block acres in queensland for sale

This'll never happen, especially without a Referendum. That being said the result could always be fixed like everything else these days.

So what would happen? US defaults on its debts, as does Australia and New Zealand, and we form a supernation called "The ANZAC" with our currency being called the ANZAC Dollar?

Would Mexicans then try and swim across the Pacific to get to Australia?

Oh my... You obviously have no knowledge on the subject. If it's an Olympic sport it's obviously an internationally recognized sport. Throw away the pride and stop being in denial.

What are you on about? I know it's an internationally recognised sport.

Are you guys off topic or has taking over Australia become an international sport.

Be careful, Aussies are really good at sports.

No of coarse not, well not anytime soon anyway.

But I`m usually suspicious of the MSM,so why would they even bother to get peoples reactions to a stupid petition?

If you read the comments at the bottom of the page, there are quite a few people who would be in support of a merger here in Australia, others however are spitting chips at the very thought.(my initial reaction was the same and needed wet wipes for the monitor)

I think alot of articles such as those are monitored and get a feel of public opinion on issues, which may not have anything to do with a stupid merger petition.Maybe it has to do with gauging the publics support for America in general or for an up and coming military offensive if one would occur or if there are reactions to the already US military presence on Australian soil.

But also alot of our TV is American dominated and has been more so for the past 13 years which was one of the US`s conditions in a fair trade agreement, where many that left comments in agreement with a merger could be of a younger generation who could see it as being a good thing, I also think alot of TV programs are used for social engineering.

Either way I don`t trust it.
