LA TIMES

Climate change is causing glaciers to melt, heat waves to become more intense, species to become extinct and low-lying island nations like Tuvalu to disappear altogether. To this list of calamities, U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee has added another: Climate change could force more women to become prostitutes.

That warning is contained in a resolution the California Democrat introduced in Congress on Friday. In House Concurrent Resolution 36, Rep. Lee and 11 co-sponsors note that warming temperatures could push as many as 3 million people into poverty by the year 2050. Some of those people may be women looking for any possible way to provide for themselves and their children.

I’ve heard it all now…..

The global warming hoaxers have absolutely no shame in their game. I’m almost shocked that elected representatives of the US Congress would push this absolute baloney but I’ve seen so much ridiculous legislation lately that nothing really surprises me anymore. I think everyone needs to know exactly who is peddling this trash…here are their names:

The resolution was introduced to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce with 11 Democratic co-sponsors, including Lois Capps, Michael Honda and Jackie Speier of California, Keith Ellison and Betty McCollum of Minnesota, Steve Israel and Carolyn B. Maloney of New York, Raul Grijalva of Arizona, Henry C. Johnson of Georgia, Janice Schakowsky of Illinois and Donna Christensen of the Virgin Islands.

If one of these democrat tools is your representative, is THIS what you think he/she should be working on while our economy implodes and the ME erupts in violence?

Is this what we’re spending our tax dollars on??

-LOL.
I mean technically the statement is true. IF Global Climate change...blah...blah..

Anytime anything affects the economy more people (men and Women) find any and every way (including prostitution) legal or not- To make it.

Oddly enough I have seen a HUGE rise in prostitution in my city in the past few years. It used to be a rarity to see "streetwalkers" (they were always there..but.. ) now its a daily sight . I base this on the economy.

So the above article would be true IF Global climate Change begins to kill the economy. The Article would also be true if it stated "An attack by Godzilla on the new York harbor will force more Women into prostitution"- It probably would.

I am surprised that they didn't mention that as more women are forced to sell their bodies, the increased prostitute supply will drive the prices down, making it even harder for the initial (pre-climate change) prostitutes to make a living, causing them to starve.

OMG, it is a bigger calamity than we have been told.
Weird, they usually overblow the climate crisis.

Well I can certainly see the logic there. In a worse case scenario things could go that way.

But she says global warming can cause early marriage.

What's wrong with early marriage?

Is that somehow going against her values?

I don't get it.

Yes, how dare Rep Lee make a resolution to help less fortunate women around the world in the face of greater climate-related tragedies. Shame on her.

Right, they didn’t even get into the long term economic implications yet. Well, I’m sure this committee will spend several months debating the issue and might even have to make a few trips to the most affected areas; you know, just to check it out first hand.

Idiots….all of them!

After this?

I have to admit ...absolutely nothing people in elected office say tends to surprise me anymore. He even ties it to a suggestion of Global Warming also being impacted by such an imbalance of US troops added to the island.

Remember when the half joking term was 'they walk among us'? Well...now they lead us.

If she really wants to help women she should legalize it.

Legal brothels are safe places, the street is not. It isnt as if women (and men) have not sold sex since time began and it isnt going away. If it is going to become more prevalent (and it is) time tio understand we cannot legislate other peoples morality. It isnt our choice to make what business deals happen between consenting adults. But to make it legal would cut down MASSIVELY on the violence and victimization which goes with the unregulated trade.

Oh, no! Does this mean in about 3000 years the planet will be populated by prostitutes and gigolos? That would get expensive.

- Gigolo -- Do you put out on the firts date?
- Prostitute -- Why do you ask?
- Gigolo -- I only make minimum wage.
- Prostitut -- No...no I don't

hmm interesting.. this could explain why when there's a change in the weather i get the urge to get dressed into a scantily clad dominator attire and stand out on the street corner. this will bring a lot of relief to my wife haha.

Christ, you people like to sensationalize, don't you? Did you even read the resolution. The part about "prostitution" is one little footnote in the entire thing, yet you make it sound like the entire resolution is dedicated to it.

Whereas food insecure women with limited socioeconomic re- sources may be vulnerable to situations such as sex work,transactional sex, and early marriage that put them at risk for HIV, STIs, unplanned pregnancy, and poor re- productive health;

Here's a link to the resolution - you're seriously going to rail against something like this?

Well I can certainly see the logic there.

You do?

What is logical about blaming a hypothetical problem projected to happen 30+ years from now on a false premise supported by bogus science?

No logic there, sorry!

Screw Climate change tragedies, I'd say it's Global Financial Corporate Greed that's lead to the increase in Poverty and rash job decisions. How can companies be allowed to sell they're wares after moving from paying responsible wages to employees to paying what they can get away with in other countries?

seems to me it's not the " little people " who make those decisions, and therefor barking up the wrong tree. Like talking to an animal and saying it's there fault for their forest being bulldozed to make way for a Starbucks.

You people?

Do you mean all of us at the LA Times? I didn’t write the article, I just criticized the content!

you're seriously going to rail against something like this?

Hell yes I am! I thought liberals wanted to stay out of people’s bedrooms? Now you want to spend tax dollars on because you’re concerned about the potential for prostitution, STD’s, unplanned pregnancy, and poor re- productive health? That makes no sense! Why does the government need to worry about my sex life NOW? I thought it wasn’t important??

THAT’S what I’m talking about!!

There are a million things Congress could be doing right now to better people’s lives. The fact that they spend their time and our money perpetuating this hoax pisses me off. How about working on real unemployment? How about fixing the wasteful spending problem they have? How about working on getting our economy going again rather than planning for eventualities that will never occur?? How about getting rid of the broken and corrupt financial system we have? How about getting rid of crony capitalism and fraud in DC? How about DOING ACTUAL WORK that will benefit your constituents??

hokey stick chart now to show us this rise in women of the night??
The old hokey stick chart worked so well for the low informed idiots last time,
I could see this presented with cheesy electronic porno music.

No, you people, as in you the people that are doing the sensationalizing. And actually, the LA Times points to the ridiculousness of the reactions:

The document’s purpose is to call attention to the ways that women are vulnerable to climate change. In poor and developing countries, it will become more difficult for women to grow and collect food and water for their families. Natural disasters fueled by climate change will force many women and children to become refugees. Malaria and other epidemics loom.

But predictably, the online coverage has focused on sex.

“Democrats: Global warming means more hookers,” according to Tucker Carlson’s website, the Daily Caller.

“Climate Change Causes Prostitution? Congressional Leaders Say Yes,” writes Latinos Post.

I didn’t write the article, I just criticized the content!

WTF are you talking about? What does that even have to do with the resolution? Oh, right - the sex part of it. Well, if you want to rail against someone trying to help a populace that is being negatively affected right now, as in, it's a reality, I really can't help you. It's just sad that you cherry pick and sensationalize things like this when there are many more important issues to spend effort on.
