Wonder why, this is happening in the artic, yet in Alaska, It is getting colder??

Same online news source talking about global cooling, just 3 days ago. NOT global warming.

and still, the waterlevel on the island I live on here in the Baltic Sea, is lower then usual. Not saying this is bull, but I think the effects of the melt is more complicated and cant be foreseen at this stage. Methane release, sea levels, climate changes.... Its to big for us to understand if not all scientists put all their focus on whats happening.

The melting of ice that floats does not raise sea levels. The melting of glaciers and ice sheets that are on land raise sea levels. This warming will most likely cause a change in the Gulf Stream and the conveyer currents that move throughout our oceans and make places such as France and parts of England livable. If you look on the maps and are basically only familiar with weather in North America you will see places that you have been told are warm directly across from places in America and Canada that are traditionally cold, This is changing and will change even more drastically. It's not Global Warming, that was a poorly chosen phrase. Its Climate Change, and caused by us, normal swings in planetary weather, or a combination of both, stay tuned for some really wacko weather ahead.

I had a strange dream last week, that was very real. With out warning, a foreign military took over the US. In my dream, they just took over the cities, with out much resistance. Could see their soldiers Also, saw the languages on the tv channels change from English to their language. In my dream, I was thinking Russian. But, if I remember, the uniforms were a Blue and Red color.

Wow... What are you people waiting for?... "You people" in this case are the AGW camp who BELIEVE the lies and have drank the cool-aid...

Stop using your computers...
Stop wasting energy doing nothing but whining in blogs how the rest of the world doesn't want to follow the AGW religion...
Stop using your AC, and heaters in winter...
Stop watching tv, or using the internet, iphone, cellphones, etc to get your news, get in contact with friends, etc, etc...
Stop whining how the rest of the world doesn't want to follow your lead when first of all not even yourselves would go back to living in a cave "to save the world"...

It is time for you all to put up, or shut up...

Thanks for your politeness, the icon is a photo of a place around here =D

I also understand your skepticism, especially on doom subjects here. Below is a copy/paste of a post I made in another, somewhat related thread.

---

... I want to provide some data on why there should be a concern for methane (CH4) leaking into the atmosphere, especially in the Arctic regions.

The images below were referenced from CMOS (Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society), and can be downloaded [here] (9 mb pdf.)

This picture is pretty self explanatory. Here we can see a distinct rise in all methane (CH4) levels since around 2007. All models/formulas are rising, not just 1 or 2 potentially incorrect ones.

Another great collection of data imagery, showing methane in the Arctic atmosphere, starting at 2006, then 2007, 2008, and 2009. It is clearly increasing in methane concentrations, though the next images show that trending more clearly.

This image shows 2010 and 2011, the most dense and red one to date, meaning there is a lot more methane in the Arctic atmosphere than who knows how far back exactly. Notice the graph on the bottom showing the increasing trend of methane since ~2007.

Here is a nice image showing that things are really warming up.

This is a great image of the feedback loop going on right now in the arctic. Some things to know are:

Albedo -

It is defined as the ratio of reflected radiation from the surface to incident radiation upon it.

And more in particular, the Ice Albedo Feedback Loop

A positive feedback climate process where a change in the area of snow-covered land, ice caps, glaciers or sea ice alters the albedo. This change in albedo acts to reinforce the initial alteration in ice area. Cooling tends to increase ice cover and hence the albedo, reducing the amount of solar energy absorbed and leading to more cooling. Conversely, warming tends to decrease ice cover and hence the albedo, increasing the amount of solar energy absorbed, leading to more warming.

So as this methane trapped in the Arctic regions will be released, causing more warming, causing more ice to melt and release the methane hydrates.

This last image is a recent shot of the Beaufort Sea, a sea in the Arctic ocean.

According to this post, and the note from one a user over here

He states that:

If taken as a simplistic predictor of the 2013 melt season, we are 51 days ahead of last season.

Here are some more interesting links:

Arctic Methane Emergency Group

ESRL (NOAA) PSD Map Room Climate Products - Sea Surface Temperature

Arctic.io - Satellite Observations

So perhaps we are going into a serious problem with the Arctic melting sooner than thought. What kind of data/information do you need to think there is a problem? Or do you rely on hindsight? =D

The earth's climate has been shifting for millions of years. Where there are deserts, there used to be oceans. Where there is ice there used to be fertile land. Where there are lush forests, one day these will turn into deserts and someday where there are hot climates, they will be under deep ice. Thousands of years from now maybe new generations will cry about the ice caps melting in California.

While climate change has real effects on how we live (sinking lands/rising water, picking up an AC instead of central heating) it's not something humans can change. All they can do is deal with the consequences. I have nothing against being good to our environment and protecting what needs to be protected..... after all.... who doesn't want to breathe clean air and drink clean water? Who doesn't want to see herds of elephants or flocks of penguins live out their life without human intervention? I simply ask that people stop panicking and start to think ahead. The world will not end, animals will adapt just the way they have been adapting for millions of years,... and if new species rise and some fall due to the changing climate, why is that so bad? Be responsible with your environment and let nature take its course. Just don't be dumb enough to fall for the scare tactics, because if you do, it will cost you dearly. There are people out there (including scientists!) who's jobs and careers depend on scaremongering you out of your hard-earned dollars.

And you have been ignoring the scientists, even from the IPCC who have come forward to warn you, and the rest of the AGW camp on how Global Warming/Climate Change has become politicized...

You all decide to believe the directors of "science agencies" when a majority of scientists from such agencies have complained that they were never asked their opinion, and instead of directors have claimed "all scientists agree" just for THE FUNDING... One example was what happened when, Baum, the editor-in-chief of the American Chemical Society decided to publish his BELIEF that AGW Is "well established" and that a majority of scientists agree.

The American Chemical Society is the world's largest science group, and the director got a barrage of emails from scientists members a majority disagreeing with the claims being made by Baum, and many of the scientists calling for his resignation.

Pielke himself, and many other scientists have spoken before how the "editors/directors" of science groups were not asking their scientist members for their opinion regarding Climate Change, yet that didn't stop these editors/directors from claiming "a majority of scientists agree", which is one of the last lies and claims being used by the AGW believers to try to keep their religion alive.

From: Phil Jones To: “Michael E. Mann” Subject: Empire Strikes Back – return of proper science ! Date: Fri May 20 13:45:26 2005

Mike,

REDACTEDJust reviewed Caspar’s paper with Wahl for Climatic Change. Looks pretty good. Almost reproduced your series and shows where MM have gone wrong. Should keep them quiet for a while. Also they release all the data and the R software. Presume you know all about this. Should make Keith’s life in Ch 6 easy ! Also, confidentially for a few weeks, Christy and Spencer have admitted at the Chicago CCSP meeting that their 2LT record is wrong !! They used the wrong sign for the diurnal correction ! Series now warms – not quite as much as the surface but within error bands. Between you and me, we’ll be going with RSS in Ch 3 and there will be no discrepancy with the surface and the models. Should make Ch 3 a doddle now ! Keep quiet about this until Bern at least. Can tell you more then. RSS (Carl Mears and Frank Wentz) found the mistake ! The skeptic pillars are tumbling ! Cheers Phil

I was at the Chicago meeting. First the error that is mentioned in Phil Jones was actually a minor one, and was corrected by Spencer and Christy immediately after it was identified at the meeting by the RSS group (Wentz and Mears). I felt it was odd that the RSS group presented this at the meeting rather than communicating prior to the meeting.

What is most disturbing, however, is that Phil Jones (who was NOT a member of the CCSP 1.1 Committee) found out about this issue, when the meetings of our Committee were supposed to be confidential. Then, Phil Jones disseminated this information further to Mike Mann.

This is yet another example of the Old Boy’s network that, in my view, has undercut the credibility of climate assessments.

It has been proven many times in these forums that AGW(Anthropogenic Global Warming) is a lie and a hoax, yet "belief" is a powerful tool even when you believe a lie, if you "believe" strongly enough on it you think it is the truth.

The governments of Europe, the United States, and Japan are unlikely to negotiate a social-democratic pattern of globalization – unless their hands are forced by a popular movement or a catastrophe, such as another Great Depression or ecological disaster

These governments would not accept a "social-democratic pattern of globalization" unless their hands are FORCED by a popular movement (Occupy and Anthropogenic Global Warming movements), another Great Depression (the current GLOBAL economic crisis), or an ecological disaster (Global Warming been blamed on humans)

Democratising Global Governance:

The Challenges of the World Social Forum

by

Francesca Beausang

ABSTRACT

This paper sums up the debate that took place during the two round tables organized by UNESCO within the first World Social Forum in Porto Alegre (25/30 January 2001). It starts with a discussion of national processes, by examining democracy and then governance at the national level. It first states a case for a "joint" governance based on a combination of stakeholder theory, which is derived from corporate governance, and of UNESCO's priorities in the field of governance. As an example, the paper investigates how governance can deviate from democracy in the East Asian model. Subsequently, the global dimension of the debate on democracy and governance is examined, first by identification of the characteristics and agents of democracy in the global setting, and then by allusion to the difficulties of transposing governance to the global level.

www.unesco.org...

The above paper is from 1991 from the UN (UNESCO is a branch of the UN in case you didn't know). It, and the meetings these globalists have been having call for a GLOBAL SOCIALIST/FASCIST GOVERNMENT derived from CORPORATE GOVERNANCE...

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) are focusing on population control through their Global Health Development Programs. By using citizens in under-developed nations, like Africa and India, was Guinea pigs for their research and development for “new interventions such as vaccines, drugs and diagnostics”, these globalists hope to ensure their family planning schemes are effective.

Melinda Gates has made family planning and the population control agenda her personal mission . She justifies her cause by claiming that 100,000 women die in child birth from unintended pregnancies. Although this statistic has no scientific basis, since it sounds good and mainstream media do not check facts, it has helped the BMGF team up with the British government to raise more than $4 billion to fun depopulation programs under the guise of bringing contraceptives to under-developed nations.

The BMGF assert that by 2050 “the global population is expected to grow to over 9 billion people” and this is unacceptable to them. By applying pressure to social programs and resources, the BMGF want to use family planning as an investment for all national governments globally.

Strategies to accomplish their goals include:
Using financial influence to force governments and policymakers to implement their family planning schemes
Empower NGOs who promote family planning propaganda
Coerce the integration of family planning into all
humanitarian efforts by using funds from the UN Global Fund
Pour money into efforts that further family planning through national policy controls that adhere to the UN
s Millennium Development Goals

BMGF has partnered with drug corporations like Shanghai Dahua Pharmaceuticals in China to develop implantable fertility controls that will be used in over 20 developing countries to curb population growth.

The injectable Depo-Provera is being sold to under-developed nations and being administered by healthcare workers and nonmedical providers, or by the women themselves. Policy and training systems are underway to ensure these drugs are utilized in areas like the sub-Saharan Africa. By using these areas as testing grounds for new fertility drugs, as well as forcible sterilization schemes, the BMGF are focusing on preventative situations over dealing with abortable pregnancies which become complicated.

Abstract
Nile gauge records of variations in Nile floods from the 9th century to the 15th century AD reveal pronounced episodes of low Nile and high Nile flood discharge. Historical data reveal that this period was also characterized by the worst known famines on record. Exploratory comparisons of variations in Nile flood discharge with high-resolution data on sea surface temperature of the North Atlantic climate from three case studies suggest that rainfall at the source of the Nile was influenced by the North Atlantic Oscillation. However, there are apparently flip-flop reversals from periods when variations in Nile flood discharge are positively related to North Atlantic warming to periods where the opposite takes place. The key transitions occur atAD 900, 1010, 1070, 1180, 1350 and 1400. The putative flip-flop junctures, which require further confirmation, appear to be quite rapid and some seem to have had dramatic effects on Nile flood discharge, especially if they recurred at short intervals, characteristic of the period from the 9th to the 14th century, coincident with the so-called Medieval Warm Period. The transition from one state to the other was characterized by incidents of low, high or a succession of both low and high extreme floods. The cluster of extreme floods was detrimental causing famines and economic disasters that are unmatched over the last 2000 years.

But I find it ironic how most in the AGW camp seem to believe "we are in unprecedented times"...

I saw your post, before you deleted that part, where you claimed that the OP has links which claims the melting now is "faster than ever before", and this is nothing but another lie and exaggeration... There have been dramatic climate changes in the past when "warming" has occurred within a few years.

The ongoing Climate Change started around 1600 when many parts of the Earth was still experiencing the LIA(Little Ice Age) which was global in nature, yet borehole temperatures have shown the Earth started warming around the 1600s.

www.earth.lsa.umich.edu...

The AGW camp has made claims from "the Sun's activity stopped increasing in the 1980s/choose date" which has been proven to be a lie, to even claim that CO2 is more powerful even than the Sun, another of the innumerable list of lies that has been made, and is still to this day being made by the AGW camp.

Abstract Observations from the International Satellite Cloud Climatalogy Project (ISCCP) are used to demonstrate that the 19-level HadAM3 version of the United Kingdom Met Office Unified Model does not simulate sufficient high cloud over land. By using low-altitude winds, from the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF) Re-Analysis from 1979 to 1994 (ERA-15) to predict the areas of maximum likelihood of orographic wave generation, it is shown that much of the deficiency is likely to be due to the lack of a representation of the orographic cirrus generated by sub-grid scale orography. It is probable that this is a problem in most GCMs.

The widely accepted (albeit unproven) theory that manmade global warming will accelerate itself by creating more heat-trapping clouds is challenged this month in new research from The University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Instead of creating more clouds, individual tropical warming cycles that served as proxies for global warming saw a decrease in the coverage of heat-trapping cirrus clouds, says Dr. Roy Spencer, a principal research scientist in UAHuntsville's Earth System Science Center.

That was not what he expected to find.

"All leading climate models forecast that as the atmosphere warms there should be an increase in high altitude cirrus clouds, which would amplify any warming caused by manmade greenhouse gases," he said. "That amplification is a positive feedback. What we found in month-to-month fluctuations of the tropical climate system was a strongly negative feedback. As the tropical atmosphere warms, cirrus clouds decrease. That allows more infrared heat to escape from the atmosphere to outer space."

The results of this research were published today in the American Geophysical Union's "Geophysical Research Letters" on-line edition. The paper was co-authored by UAHuntsville's Dr. John R. Christy and Dr. W. Danny Braswell, and Dr. Justin Hnilo of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, CA.

Geographically distributed predictions of future climate, obtained through climate models, are widely used in hydrology and many other disciplines, typically without assessing their reliability. Here we compare the output of various models to temperature and precipitation observations from eight stations with long (over 100 years) records from around the globe. The results show that models perform poorly, even at a climatic (30-year) scale. Thus local model projections cannot be credible, whereas a common argument that models can perform better at larger spatial scales is unsupported.

www.itia.ntua.gr...

Like the above, there are several other such "peer-reviewed research' which tells us that General Circulation Models/computer models that try to predict Climate Change, are flawed at the least, if not rigged to shove down everyone's throat the AGW hoax.

As i have ALWAYS said....methane is the danger, not CO2. If you want to tackle climate change, kill all the cows. Its simple.

Methane is 4 times more potent at increasing global temperature than CO2, and all the cows on the planet contribute more Methane (per volume) into the atmosphere than every single CO2 producing machine (per volume) humanity has on the planet...

Simple maths dictates that if you want to slow climate change or stop it, you must lower the amount of methane producing animals, which cows are the biggest culprit. People need to start eating other meats or we will all perish eventually!

Logic is a wonderful thing, its just a pity those in power dont have it!

I have proven several times already that within less than 100 years the Solar System will be within a new region of the Local Interstellar Cloud that is a million degrees kelvin.

Ribbon at Edge of Our Solar System: Will the Sun Enter a Million-Degree Cloud of Interstellar Gas?
ScienceDaily (May 24, 2010) — Is the Sun going to enter a million-degree galactic cloud of interstellar gas soon?

Scientists from the Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Southwest Research Institute, and Boston University suggest that the ribbon of enhanced emissions of energetic neutral atoms, discovered last year by the NASA Small Explorer satellite IBEX, could be explained by a geometric effect coming up because of the approach of the Sun to the boundary between the Local Cloud of interstellar gas and another cloud of a very hot gas called the Local Bubble. If this hypothesis is correct, IBEX is catching matter from a hot neighboring interstellar cloud, which the Sun might enter in a hundred years.
...

www.sciencedaily.com...

The Sun traveling through the Galaxy happens to cross at the present time a blob of gas about ten light-years across, with a temperature of 6-7 thousand degrees kelvin. This so-called Local Interstellar Cloud is immersed in a much larger expanse of a million-degree hot gas, named the Local Bubble. The energetic neutral atoms (ENA) are generated by charge exchange at the interface between the two gaseous media. ENA can be observed provided the Sun is close enough to the interface. The apparent Ribbon of ENA discovered by the IBEX satellite can be explained by a geometric effect: one observes many more ENA by looking along a line-of-sight almost tangent to the interface than by looking in the perpendicular direction. The region our Solar System has been in for the past tens of thousands of years and longer is between 6,000-7,000 degrees kelvin. The one our Solar System will enter within 100 years is a MILLION degrees kelvin.

In that link I gave above you will find how interstellar dust has been exponentially increasing which means we are moving into a region with more interstellar dust, more radiation, and which seems to have a strong gravitational pull which is affecting every planet in our Solar System, and even our Sun.

Abstract
....................
Observational arguments in favor of such a cloud are presented, and implications of the presence of a nearby cloud are discussed, including possible changes in terrestrial climate. It is suggested that the postulated interstellar cloud should encounter the solar system at some unspecified time in the near future and might have a drastic influence on terrestrial climate in the next 10,000 years.

adsabs.harvard.edu...

Since the late 1970s, when it was erroneously still thought this cloud was up to 50,000 years away, scientists knew that as we would get into this new region of space and into the interstellar cloud, it would affect the climate of our planet, as well as the climate of every planet and moon with an atmosphere, which is exactly what has been occurring. But instead of puting the blame where is due, certain people and groups are blaming mankind. and imo they are doing this to control us and make people think these changes can be controlled by governments/people, when in fact we have no control whatsoever.

This is a lot more important than cows emitting methane trust me. The Climate changes will continue to get worse, but it has nothing to do with the AGW religion/hoax, it is the fact that the Solar System has been moving into a new region of space that is affecting the dynamics of the Solar System and causing extreme changes. But the worst is yet to come.

Abstract
Evidence is presented that the recent worldwide land warming has occurred largely in response to a worldwide warming of the oceans rather than as a direct response to increasing greenhouse gases (GHGs) over land.

Atmospheric model simulations of the last half-century with prescribed observed ocean temperature changes, but without prescribed GHG changes, account for most of the land warming. The oceanic influence has occurred through hydrodynamic-radiative teleconnections, primarily by moistening and warming the air over land and increasing the downward longwave radiation at the surface. The oceans may themselves have warmed from a combination of natural and anthropogenic influences.

www.cdc.noaa.gov...

www.esrl.noaa.gov...

In the above research work the "evidence" says and I quote:

recent worldwide land warming has occurred largely in response to a worldwide warming of the oceans rather than as a direct response to increasing greenhouse gases (GHGs) over land

The fact that also the areas which have been warming the most are very remote locations very far away from sources of anthropogenic pollution, including anthropogenic CO2, this evidence also suggests that some other mechanism, and not CO2 has been the cause of the warming.

A mysterious phenomenon is causing four major glaciers in the Antarctic to shrink in unison, causing a significant increase in sea levels, scientists have found.

The rise in atmospheric temperatures caused by global warming cannot account for the relatively rapid movement of the glaciers into the sea, but scientists suspect that warmer oceans may be playing a role.

"There is a possibility that heat from the ocean is somehow flowing in underneath these glaciers, but it is not related to global warming," said glaciologist Duncan Wingham of University College London. "Something has changed that is causing these glaciers to shrink.

"At this rate the glaciers will all be afloat in 150 years or so."

However, it would take about 200 years for extra heat from the ocean to reach the underside of the glaciers, which makes it difficult to believe that the present shrinkage is due to global warming, Dr Wingham said.

In that article Prof. Wingham is saying that "anthropogenic CO2", which is blamed by some scientists to have cause Global Warming, is not the cause for the melting of these glaciers.

Study finds Arctic seabed afire with lava-spewing volcanoes

The Arctic seabed is as explosive geologically as it is politically judging by the "fountains" of gas and molten lava that have been blasting out of underwater volcanoes near the North Pole.

“Explosive volatile discharge has clearly been a widespread, and ongoing, process,” according to an international team that sent unmanned probes to the strange fiery world beneath the Arctic ice.

They returned with images and data showing that red-hot magma has been rising from deep inside the earth and blown the tops off dozens of submarine volcanoes, four kilometres below the ice. “Jets or fountains of material were probably blasted one, maybe even two, kilometres up into the water,” says geophysicist Robert Sohn of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, who led the expedition.

The hot magma down there is 2,150 degrees, and this does contribute greatly to warming the oceans.

Boiling Hot Water Found in Frigid Arctic SeaBy LiveScience Staff

Many miles inside the Arctic Circle, scientists have found elusive vents of scalding liquid rising out of the seafloor at temperatures that are more than twice the boiling point of water.

The cluster of five hydrothermal vents, also called black smokers, were discovered farther north than any others previously identified. The vents, one of which towers four stories high, are located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between Greenland and Norway, more than 120 miles farther north than other known vents.

Remotely operated vehicles photographed the scene as part of an expedition led by Rolf Pedersen, a geologist at the University of Bergen in Norway.

Black smokers have been found in many deep-sea locations, including on the Juan de Fuca Ridge off Washington and British Columbia. Despite the lack of sunlight to power life in the abyss, the vents often support unique communities of creatures that live off their warmth and chemicals. Some scientists think the vents would have been great locales for the origin of life on Earth.

Giant Undersea Volcano Found Off Iceland
Richard A. Lovett

April 22, 2008

A giant and unusual underwater volcano lies just offshore of Iceland on the Reykjanes Ridge, volcanologists have announced.

The Reykjanes formation is a section of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, which bisects the Atlantic Ocean where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart.

As magma wells up from the rift between the plates, it cools to form ridges.

But it doesn't generally form giant volcanoes, said Ármann Höskuldsson, a University of Iceland volcanologist who was part of the international team that discovered the volcano last summer.

That's because mid-ocean ridges are constantly pulling apart, making it harder for large volcanoes to form without being torn asunder.

"We were doing a normal oceangoing mission, and we found a big edifice" about 90 miles (150 kilometers) south of Iceland, Höskuldsson said.

The structure turned out to be an active volcano that rises about 3,300 feet (1,000 meters) above the surrounding sections of the ridge, coming within 1,300 feet (400 meters) of the surface.

At its base the volcano is approximately 30 miles (50 kilometers) across. The peak contains a depression known as a caldera that is 6 miles (10 kilometers) wide.

That indicates that the mountain is being fed by its own magma chamber, Höskuldsson said.

"It's a higher magma production that generates the edifice."

Sea die-out blamed on volcanoes

Undersea volcanic activity has been blamed for a mass extinction in the seas 93 million years ago.

In the so-called "anoxic event" of the late Cretaceous Period, the ocean depths became starved of oxygen, wiping out swathes of marine organisms.

Researchers from the University of Alberta, Canada, found a tell-tale signature of underwater volcanism in rocks dating to the period.

Their findings have been published in the journal Nature.

At the time of the anoxic event, the average temperatures were higher than those of today, researchers say.

Palm trees grew in what would later become Alaska and large reptiles roamed northern Canada. The Arctic Ocean was ice-free and scientists think it would have had a temperature we might describe today as lukewarm.

However, the oceans were also hit by a mass extinction which wiped out a type of large clam common at the time as well as tiny ocean creatures known as foraminifera, which live on the sea floor.

Current warmth seems to be occurring nearly everywhere at the same time and is largest at high latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere. Over the last 50 years, the largest annual and seasonal warmings have occurred in Alaska, Siberia and the Antarctic Peninsula. Most ocean areas have warmed. Because these areas are remote and far away from major cities, it is clear to climatologists that the warming is not due to the influence of pollution from urban areas.

There are scientists who estimate there could be 3 million of underwater volcanoes, we really have not been able to map all of them, not even a majority of them.

Thousand of new volcanoes revealed beneath the waves

The true extent to which the ocean bed is dotted with volcanoes has been revealed by researchers who have counted 201,055 underwater cones. This is over 10 times more than have been found before.

The team estimates that in total there could be about 3 million submarine volcanoes, 39,000 of which rise more than 1000 metres over the sea bed.

"The distribution of underwater volcanoes tells us something about what is happening in the centre of the Earth," says John Hillier of the University of Cambridge in the UK. That is because they give information about the flows of hot rock in the mantle beneath. "But the problem is that we cannot see through the water to count them," he says.

Satellites can detect volcanoes that are more than 1500 m high because the mass of the submerged mountains causes gravity to pull the water in around them. This creates domes on the ocean's surface that can be several metres high and can be detected from space.

Please Sir, be my guest and move yourself and your family to a place where you "have a shot" at survivning so the rest of us can be spared your utterly boring fearmongering.

And I guess the mirror image can apply to anyone who feels it is all hogwash. How about they ALL go live on a low lying island. After all, there is nothing to worry about
The seas won't rise, the ice won't melt, you will all be perfectly safe by your estimates

I live a few miles from the sea. rather than shift to the coast I might wait till the coast comes to me.
