It can't be the moon on the day stated, May 3,2013 would have been around 50% light/dark. This object, whatever it is, is just a sliver.

Their is an object that does appear around 1400 - but i wouldn't know if it is Venus, Mercury, or what.

It's called "Dynamic eye adaption". If it scares you then press the F4-key and untick that option. It's there to simulate the fact that if you were zoomed in on Jupiter (or any other sufficiently bright object) your eyes would adjust to the brightness and would thus be unable to see the surrounding stars.
