I remember these commercials, they aired a year after 9/11, the library one is the one that got to me, that scared the crap out of me, as I love to read.
I saw these once, and never again, govt telling the ad council to pull em???

Just to interject.

Our whole society is set up to give one the feeling that they are being watched. A whole set of tools are used to set this into the psyche of everyone. We have religion which tells us that we better be good because your name may not be put into the book of life. Child fairy tales like Santa Claus... you better be good or you won't get any presents. We have the mass media telling us there is CCTV everywhere (including satelite) and now looming possibility of drones. We have shows of psychics telling us we are being watched by others. Ghost shows that say the same. Alien shows that say the same.

Are we a paranoid species or what?

From an outside perspective as someone living in Europe, the headlines that come out of America are really starting to get creepy. I don't hate government I hate people like that sheriff who try to use government as a means to act out their inner rage and insecurity on others.

SHERIFF: 'We want people to call us if guy down street hates government'

Well wouldnt that be errr almost everyone?

I find that most Democrats "hate" Republicans and that most Republicans "hate" Democrats...

That one word is what I find most distressing, hate.

If I were to call in everyone I've heard make an off-hand remark shooting W, Cheney or Obama, there'd be an awful lot of people with some 'splainin' to do...

Instead, I always make clear that I lived through a period that saw three assassinations that did nothing but hurt our country. I don't disagree with anyone enough to want to see him dead and refuse to take part in that kind of talk.

Exactly

Instead government fearing people that chose them (that should be normal - people chose them - people overtrow them - that should be normal democracy),
people have fear from government and ALMIGHTY terrorists ( you never know who are they - old communist trick called "outer enemy - evil americans" - i remember meeting US citizen for a first time - ehehehehehe - thaught he will infect me with evil capitalist mind and then eat me ehehehehehehehe - communist doctrine- so now be afraid, very afraid of terrorists ehehehehe)

As I see it - land of freedom - my ass.
Government and all secret societies succeeded in their plans
People are afraid and won't do anything to change evil bastards on top. People even forgot that they can do that, they
even gave their rights wit Terrorist act.
Now they will take your guns and you'll still be afraid.

I am sad, very sad, I LOVE USA and your way of life (by that I mean FREEDOM, right to work and make money if you are hardworking and all that your country had once).

From ex-communist country I tell you:

Welcome to the state of fear my new communist friends

And when some of you say Obama is socialist - WRONG - socialism is beautiful - you must have a job, you must go on vacation, you must have medical insurance, you must have child support...... that is socialism - caring about people

Fear from state, fear from neighbors, fear from saying what you want, fear from government, fear from spying,
fear as a state of mind.....
That's communism.

It will be a sad day in this country when a TIC joke can get you hauled in for a psych evaluation. A friend of mine recently posted a photo of how you can beautify a fence by drilling holes in it and inserting variously colored marbles. I made the joke that, considering the old saw about fences and good neighbors, it would go faster with a machine gun...

I cannot stand paying taxes, am sick of all the unjust wars, and think CZAR BUSH the FIRST had JFK killed and had ole Ronnie shot...IF I could prove it, I would do something about it...

Trust me, these guys running the show could give two shakes about any of us...

Well, watch what you say, your neighbor might deem you a threat.. or your boss, or your wife, or you brother.. whoever.

And I agree they don't care about us, but when you run a for profit prison system, they care enough to get us in there.

What scares me is reading about this and being aware of how often I read of someone having their door kicked in and their dog shot, house ransacked and family terrified only to have the gentlemen that came calling find out they got the wrong address...

One "hates" the government, so one is therefore ordered by the court into court approved "counseling" (for which one must pay) to remedy these "bad" thoughts.

Sounds like 1984's conversion process. Thought reformation as approved by the state.

BS.

Particularly scary is how open to abuse the opinions of the given "counselor". In the hands of the correct professional a silk purse could quickly become an official sow's ear...

I believe that anyone that is middleclass has a dislike for the government!
It's not that hard to feel that way when government spending is through the
roof. taxes and tolls keep going up, entitlements keep going down, we are constantly
lied to, constantly manipulated and the government keeps borrowing more and more
monies! Our jobs are being outsourced, our wages are stagnant, our air, land, lakes, streams
and oceans are being poisoned by unaccountable corporations! I mean I can go on and on
but what's the point. If you don't have a dislike for the corporate controlled government
then you are either lying or you are profiting through them!
I really don't hate them though just hate who they are, what they do and what they say!
I prey everyday that the majority of us wakes up to the world we are living in and grows some balls!
If we all stood up for some real change and not some campaign promised lie we might start to see the
pendulum swing back towards justice for all or at least for the majority!

I think most of the points of why this kind of "campaign" is very dangerous and concerning have been made by other members in this thread already, but I wanted to add a story and lesson I learned as a child. We grew up in a nice, middle class neighborhood, all the kids were close and our parents were all friendly and helpful.

My sister and I played a lot with two little girls that lived across the street and lived with their Grandparents, very nice people, they always let us come over and swim in their pool. Anyways, one weekend when the girls were gone, they had an "adult" party in their backyard, and us kids spied on them from over the fence of another neighbors backyard....well we told our Mom, and she was MAD at us !

She told us it was NONE of our BUSINESS, and what people and families did in their homes was private. That really made a big impression on me, and I felt really bad. She explained to us that these people were our friends, and they had always been good neighbors, and that spreading "gossip" would be hurtful to them and our friends. They never did anything inappropriate to any kids, but they liked swimming naked, lol, who doesn't?

Now a days that kind of gossip could have caused a nightmare for them, police involved, child services etc....because a bunch of nosy kids invaded their privacy.......

How dare you people question our lord and savior Obama? If you don't agree with him 100% then you are obviously insane! Of course we need gun control, look at Chicago! Of course we need to support Israel, look at them initiate strikes on Syria and oppress Palestine. Of course we need more regulations on small business so big business can thrive and move overseas to be exempt from obamacare and minimum wage. Of course we need more Government!

If anyone even mentions the Constitution or the bill of rights they should tell this sheriff about it. This is SOVIE... AMERICA*!

Why are they throwing money away on this? Is this not what the phone number 9-11 is for? What a waste of tax payers' money to repay on a service they already have.

Oh and my government(United States) is corrupt and full of terrorists. Go report that!

What can be said other than WOW? I hate the things the government does, not the government itself. We need a government of some sort, but I hate the way things are because the government is corrupt. The people are supposed to be able to voice dissent and disagree with what the government does because that is part of what democracy is. In fact, WHY would the government be doing something that the majority of the people are against in the first place, considering the people are supposed to run the country? If the majority disagree, the government obviously is not democratic in the sense that the politicians are not representing the people. This is usually because when we elect officials we have no clue what they will do once in office. They can say anything to get elected. We think they represent one thing, but then they get in office and vote against those very ideals they supposedly stood for. How is this representation?
