The US has been involved with the Syrian civil war since day one. The US and the west are accused of instigating the war and later funneling the terrorists in to create more division and chaos. The homegrown rebels long ago feared their cause was overrun by terrorists and nothing's changed, in fact its only getting worse but that won't stop DC from sending these "rebels" million upon millions of dollars and not to mention the things we don't know that is all classified, aka the CIA.

Please the US would have prefered nothing had changed in Syria. While not the best place for the people living there, Syria was a simple to contain nation to weak to affect any strategic situation. As it was Syria was nothing but a potential target for Israel. This is why support from the West has been so lack luster. In fact the West would have been just fine in private if Assads army had stayed loyal and put down the protesters. In public their would have been some hand wringing but, in private Syria was fine as is. Of course the West early failures to support the rebels meant the radicals saw and opening and moved in. Now not only do the rebels have finish off Assad they have to remain united to take on the radicals post war. While they do clash on occasion now, for the most part they just try and avoid each other. In many ways it is like China in WW2, the Natiolists and the Communist both fighting the Japanese but, really planning for the fight against each other after that. What little support the West provides to the rebels is just enough to keep them hoping they will be able to out gun the radicals when Assad falls. People who thnk Syria needed to be removed to deal with Iran are fooling themselves. Assad would have complained and shut up because in the end with people like him keeping power is all he cares about. Now chaos. And chaos is never good for any strategic situation.

i just get the feeling that if Assad does fall, it will only start a worse power struggle that is already going on. Honestly i'm surprised that this hasn't started a much, much bigger conflict/

I agree and disagree. The US would rather Syria be left alone to owns devices? The US/Israel & the west are clearly involved in Middle Eastern affairs and they definitely have plans for Syria. It's not like the CIA/Mossad have a history of causing uprisings to overthrow governments or anything.

Do the terrorists and actual rebels avoid each other? The terrorists have been in Syria since day 1, well before day 1, but have been attacking all things government since the war began. There are a lot of opposition groups and terrorist groups have helped train and fund some of them to help combat Assad and his military. These terrorists have attacked government buildings, police, intelligence offices, buses, mosques, universities, and more. They kill everyone, from government supporters to government workers to women and children. The terrorists have been helping the rebels since day 1 which almost sounds honorable until you remember they are cold blooded terrorists. Just recently one of the rebel opposition groups announced its loyalty to Al Qaeda which doesn't help the rebel cause at all. Good news though, other rebel oppositions groups have denounced al-Nusra for embracing Al Qaeda and their ideology.

So the terrorists and the rebels have very close ties, some more than others, but none the less both are impacted heavily by each other.

A crude oil embargo placed on Syria by EU member states has been eased in a move that will allow the purchase of the natural resource from areas held by groups opposing the rule of President Bashar al-Assad.

EU Set to buy oilf from Syrian rebels.

Now I'm sure you will dispute that this is not the west, However,

John Kerry, the US secretary of state, has said that the United States would double its non-lethal aid to opposition forces in Syria to $250m.

ALJAZEERA

So the US will give 250 million to "their" cause and Kerry stops short of saying they may supply weapons, but with money coming from the EU as well, who cares where it comes from, what is it being spent on to fight this battle?

Kerry urged other foreign backers to make similar pledges of assistance with the goal of reaching $1bn in total international support.

1billion to support this rebel army, that is trying to create coup against a government that has had been at war with Israel since it was re-created by the Geneva convention. Which included Great Britain, The United states, and Russia, who would be known to support Syria.

Israel/Arab War History.

Syria History

The CIA has stated that they were involved in Iran in creating coups, just like they have always had their hand in the proverbial cookie jar. It is about Time they get caught.

CIA in Iran Coup

Also, Iran is the objective, their "allies" are being picked apart, piece by piece. That is the motive

this thread has been collecting dust. After this weekend I think there is cause to take it for a spin.

If we had a poll of members- Assad or the rebels, who used them? interesting..

My fear is that we are so f-d in America. we are the bully everyone loathes

Oh, my smile is because I successfully used the search function instead of starting a new thread.lol.
