A few cops in the People's Republic of New Jersey became members of a group vowing to uphold the Constitution and now, they've been disciplined, had their group broken up and are being portrayed as anti-government radicals in the local press. The way this story reads, upholding the Constitution is tantamount to allying yourself with the "terrorists".

Just check out the title of the article.

Jersey City police brass identify a pro-militia clique in the department and say they've been stopped

A clique of officers who calls themselves “Three-Percenters” in the Jersey City Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit sprouted about two years ago, officials have told The Jersey Journal.

“They were separating themselves from the others in the unit and we put a stop to it immediately,” Jersey City Police Deputy Chief Peter Nalbach said.

The deputy chief said there were officers who were disciplined over the matter.

Three-percenters are an “anti-government extremist” movement that has grown since President Barack Obama took office, according to the Anti Defamation League, a nonprofit that combats what it believes to be anti-Semitism and bigotry.

From the article, you would think they were plotting a full scale revolution against the government. Of course, it was the ADL that notified all of us of this extremist hate group and we know they would never steer us wrong.

Luckily, the article contains a link to a follow-up in which representatives of the group explain their motives.

'Three Percenters' founder: Wrong to discipline Jersey City police officers

Graham also took issue with the Anti Defamation League's characterization of the movement as bigoted anti-government extremists who believe the current government is plotting to take away the rights of American citizens. Graham said that if anything, "three percenters" are pro-government.

"We believe in the government," Graham said, adding that the movement wants the country's leaders to adhere to the U.S. Constitution. Graham pointed out legislators' current push to ban assault weapons and to create more regulations on gun purchases.

As to accusations of racism because the movement gained steam after Barack Obama was elected president, Graham said that it's not because Obama is black, but because the "three percenters" say he has a socialist agenda.

The movement derived its name from the notion that three percent of American colonists took up arms against the British to fight the Revolutionary War, "and look how that turned out," Graham said.

Of course, this article still seems biased in favor of the actions taken by the police department against the officers and I'll bet most people who read the first article won't bother to click on the link to the follow up, they'll just be glad that the police have stopped this dangerous movement that threatened to undermine our government from within their local police department.

Apparently you're expected to trade freedom of speech and freedom of association into the Department when they issue the Badge, eh?

I wonder how many police officers were made aware of that little detail when they signed up for the duty? I'm betting it was in that ultra, super fine print. You know...the stuff so small, it can't even be found today.

It is nice to be part of something and have your own patch and all. The problem that I can see is where are they? All sorts of legislation has been put into place curtailing liberties. They have been around longer than President Obama. They were around during President Bush's administrations as well. Where were they when all this legislations was passed? Forming cliquish groups and talking of conspiracies? That is no way to change things and they are in positions to make a difference.

If they were vocal in opposition and garnered support they may have had a leg to stand on but too much has happened in plain sight since they formed.

the article says "they separated themselves from the other officers"...in what manner? from black officers? from liberal officers? did they undermine the other officers work? did they undermine investigations? did they show prejudice toward victims of crimes, or toward those arrested?...there is always more to the story, but, with some ATS posters these days, it just doesn't matter.

your right....there is a fine line between patriotism and nationalism, I don't need to mention where in our recent history this was more evident. police have a gun that they can shoot, and a badge that can justify it, they have to have higher standards as far as being politically nuetral

Oath keepers..........will these useful idiots ever realise the truth, their oath only matters as long as it expedient for political gains?

Ok sarcasm off, I just can't do it, this is has all been seen before and spelled out by numerous people.

This will continue, rinse and repeat, until all of us that took an oath to defend the constitution of the United Staes, from ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC!!!

We need a show of force it seems, say a ten million oath keepers march. To let those that are doing this, that it will not be tolerated.

Just my oppinion, it will likely go unheard, and this will continue with no consequences, which is why they will continue.

I mean why would they stop? It is not like we are going to do anything about it but complain, and not even that loudly.

Excuse me, I have to go throw up now.

I have found that most people I have met the keep pounding on defending the constitution have never read it. Or they just pick and choose their favorite parts. These guys - no different.

Interesting how the oath keepers are such a "threat".

And what was their crime? They are promising to uphold their sworn oath to the constitution. You know, the same oath every other public official swears to uphold...

Government frowns upon taking the oath seriously. Even though its criminal not do so.

No mention of it on their site:

oathkeepers.org...

It is the same in the military Wrabbit - I contemplated joining the OathKeepers while still on active duty but all my insurgency/counter-insurgency training screamed "agree with them in principle and side with them if necessary but in no way pay their dues and get on their roles".

Why? Because should something go down the first people to be purged and set aside for special treatment would be those on their roles, the John Birch Society etc.

Better to sympathize and support from within than to put yourself on the radar and be excluded from any planning and therefore be "out of the know".

A lot of the Special Operations community are members in spirit but not on paper for that reason. Now that I am retired I have joined and pay the dues, get the literature etc. Nothing to lose - I am not read on and have nothing to be excluded from.

Whoops. Didn't those evil officers know that you must support the government even if they are going against our rights? Someone should teach those officers a lesson.

On a serious note, this is pretty disgusting. Why were those officers told to stop defending our rights? Police officers took an oath to defend and uphold the constitution. But I guess oaths now valued as much as pinky swears.

This is the country we live in. Support the bad guys, punish the good guys.

No no no... It will continues to build.up and eventually we will realize we are not alone. Not by far. And Americans will band together to throw out foreign interests. It will be like red scare except we won't be able to trust anyone. It will be rainbow scare... The borders will finally be sealed. No, you're probably right. As soon as we begin to unite in any meaningful way, some "extremist" will detonate a suitcase nuke somewhere and then they will be forced to enact martial law and suspend elections indefinitely or "until its safe". And then just when its starting to look safe again... Another crazy attack will just happen to happen. And nobody will be able to do anything about it. Ever.

Still, these Marxists in the WH have stirred up the sleeping giant.

I think it must be the other way around, most people who think the Constitution is just a piece of paper have never read it.

Oathkeeping Sheriffs are taking a stand

In a letter addressed to Vice President Joe Biden, Linn County Oregon Sheriff Mueller wrote, “Any federal regulation enacted by Congress or by executive order of the president offending the constitutional rights of my citizens shall not be enforced by me or by my deputies,” adding, “Nor will I permit the enforcement of any unconstitutional regulations or orders by federal officers within the borders of Linn County, OR.”
