Yes, how many people post on this site regularly, complaining about certain media outlets (MSM) being untrustworthy, yet they have no idea if what they are being fed by their 'trusted sites' is accurate?

Aye, I see a lot of people linking to questionable sites a lot here, too, and using very little discernment when it comes to good sources. Kind of like linking some "omg the apocalypse is coming" news story that is actually a blog titled something along the lines of "the_end_of_the_world_is_night.wordpress.com". Can you say potential bias? Still, I take comfort in seeing a lot of people on these boards actually questioning the heck out of sources being used and generally, those tend to be the very first responses to one of these threads. I'd say that there is just as many who do question various sources of information as those who don't here. I think it's just that the ones who do post questionable sources stand out in the mind more than the random person calling foul on it.

I trust no one, personally.

I was speaking more of NBC and the like...
I don't think we can trust any of them, with the amount of money involved in the media related corporations today.

Ahhh, confused me because you wrote that people complain about news sites (MSM) being untrustworthy. Was going to point out that even the "trustworthy" non-MSM sites aren't necessarily worthy of trust either. Nothing gets more hits/views than being sensationalist and sometimes, it's feeding into the host's preset ideology. Think we're on the same page though. It would be so nice if there was a rock solid news agency, wouldn't it?

Many believe that supermarket tabloids are part of the CIA's Operation Mockingbird

The National Enquirer was created by Generoso Pope, Jr, who worked for the CIA‘s psychological warfare unit. crazyfacts.com...

Pope grew estranged from his family after his father's death in 1950, and after a quick stint as an intelligence officer for the CIA, he purchased the National Enquirer for $75,000 in 1952 -- with financial help from mobster Frank Costello. articles.latimes.com...

Starting in the early days of the Cold War (late 40's), the CIA began a secret project called Operation Mockingbird, with the intent of buying influence behind the scenes at major media outlets and putting reporters on the CIA payroll, which has proven to be a stunning ongoing success.

The CIA effort to recruit American news organizations and journalists to become spies and disseminators of propaganda, was headed up by Frank Wisner, Allen Dulles, Richard Helms, and Philip Graham (publisher of The Washington Post). Wisner had taken Graham under his wing to direct the program code-named Operation Mockingbird and both have presumably committed suicide. The CIA Keeps Journalists as Assets

...the murky alliance of Mafia money and vague C.I.A. connections has fed a lot of conspiracy theories over the decades regarding the tabloid’s possible role as a sewage outlet for disinformation and influence peddling. Vanity Fair

She didn't buy them--looking at the covers without buying doesn't help their bottom line.
OP = +1 for avoiding morbid curiosity

National Enquirer Marketing Team= -2

She's blasting them for being the rubbish that they are:
OP = +1 for common sense

National Enquirer Marketing Team = -2

Acknowledging them as being rubbish in a lasting and publicly available way:
OP: +1

National Enquirer Marketing Team = -10

(using 1 unhappy consumer will report unhappiness to 10 others)

End scores:

OP = 3
National Enquirer Marketing Team = -11

In all seriousness, voicing doubt and disgust over a purported media source doesn't promote that news source. It enlightens others to its rubbish quality and voices reasonable concerns about whether or not people actually buy them (since they are still in business...).

No matter where you go the MSM will infect your mind.

I guess thats one way to tell. If you turn on the TV news (whichever) and the radio news (any) and then you also see it waiting at the checkout... then you know its propaganda.

Of course when it also appears here I then get to read other opinions about it.

The MSM is no longer the only source for news. Doesn't that just burn them up?

Nyah, nyah, nyah!

don't fret it none, time will come when all you see while standing at the check out will be cross word puzzles, and cook books and the old TV guide, for the rest the rag mags will come to an end, just like this one did abcnews.go.com... from the link

Weekly World News Dead!
the national inquire will soon go.

They are read for entertainment.

Yeah, that's what they may say to get people to shut up but it's not what always happens...See GE who actually *gasp* had to pay taxes last year because of bad publicity. Or Abercrombie & Fitch after their CEO got slammed for being discriminatory among other things to the extent that they had to launch "A&F Cares" to "highlight their philanthropic efforts". Or the failure of Windows 8, which was largely condemned by users and reviewers alike. Just because they say that bad publicity is still publicity doesn't make it true. On the contrary, bad publicity tends to get expensive as companies are forced to salvage their reputations.

Where the National Enquirer is different is that a good number of people see them as a joke already....except for the MIB. They still aren't quite as bad as their competitor, The Weekly World News (bat boy!!!
). In fact, I find this quote really funny from the San Francisco Examiner:

"It galls most mainstream newspaper editors that a tawdry tabloid could be considered for their most vaunted prize. It's like nominating a porn flick for an Oscar."

Then again, the fact that they skirt the line on fact so hard is also what makes them so noxious and worse than Weekly World News...It deserves calling out.

Could have fooled me. I meant they "see" the covers at the checkout, which are usually a full page cameo with some bold headline that directly relates to current news. Just another addition to the din.

i hate to admit it, but i compare and contrast the news on msm with the postings on ats. even after the boston bombings, i came here to search out details and related posts. i find that msm tends to be full of error, and mistakes are just glossed over. here on ats, you make a mistake, a whole bunch of articulate folks attack you and shred you until the truth comes out. sometimes not so articulate either. and the logical deconstruction of world events is always impressive, since many document their sources. you find current events here, a lot more current than on msm.

Distraction. That is the main idea. They also get you to buy their junk so that you can have more.

Not to be rude, but don't you think it's enough? I mean, enough of all the lies? The junk? The hate? The fear? Don't you think it's enough?

Um.. I don't think so. People have access to non-ending media 24/7. Almost everyone has CNN or another cable / dish news source, and news was on 24/7 about the event. The # of folks who are solely basing their idea on the facts based on tabloids in the checkout line of a store has to be like.. .00001% of the population. Just sayin'..

Waiting in line. And you know what that is like? You are surrounded by candy bars, mints, gum, and magazines. Right?

All the Enquirer magazines and those gossip rags like it, have on the front page some kind of WRONG facts about the Boston bombing. With, of course, the caveat about having to look inside to find the real deal. You know how those magazines are.

And it got me to thinking...Jeez this is how a lot of people get their information. I mean, I guess there are some that watch CNN or the 6:00 news, but for reals, people raising families are cooking dinner, checking homework, and yelling at their kids about that hour. I doubt if they are still awake for the 11:00 broadcast.

It is no wonder that everyone is so uninformed and DISINFORMED, Busy, exhausted people picking up dinner at the market on their way home from work and catch these headlines while they are waiting in line. They don't have the time or the energy or even the gumption to investigate further.

Just giving you a perspective on the working family with school kids.

Good observation...

However, be aware that a revolution in human consciousness is taking place. Whilst the parents are too busy and tired and what you describe is what is happening on one level, the kids however, the younger generations, they have the internet and access to ATS and all other alternative media.

I cannot stress enough just how many people, especially younger people are being exposed to the truth, and millions upon millions are questioning how the world is really being run.

That is why there is quite literally a battle for our minds taking place.

Research Edward Bernays, understand the internet throws a spanner into the works of those who control us and shape our society...we are in a time now where the controllers are going to have to deal with 'conspiracy', in Nazi Germany they were the 'political opponents', today, the free thinkers of the world will be called 'terrorists'.

Whether humanity reaches the threshold in time we don't know, but the controllers are openly making plans for the time- DHS ammo stockpiling, FEMA camps, this is all evidence of preparation of things to come.
