Guess what: This was also true in Southern California. In fact Los Alamitos HS had a shooting team, at least through 86 or so (and zero school shootings).

It took a terrorist bombing to counter the mass shooting the government was trying to use to force gun banning on the american people. People saw Boston for two things... one, that the government CAN'T keep us safe and two, that they WILL use strong arm tactics on innocent law abiding citizens. So their credibility is gone.
But whats sad is that while they rushed to capitlaize on the shooting now they want to try to do the same with the bombing. They're already angling to try to use terror to force gun banning. We're supposed to give up our guns because the terrorists MIGHT have been able to obtain firearms without a background check.
Of course, they don't want them stopped at the border or profiled or even investigated. Idiots. Nazis.

This is what we have let our government come to. We are more scared of the government than terrorists.

Are you "patriots" happy about this? Are you happy that for our supposed "safety", we have given up our freedoms for security? And now, we don't even have security, because it looks like the government has taken over the role of the terrorists.

It looks like we lost. If we're scared of our own government, it'll be almost impossible to stop their tyranny, because we'll just be put in our place like the good sheep we are.

Yeah, America, the land of the free, or should I say, the land of security.

1. I believe this deserves alot of stars for bring this to our attention. Very great piece of 'fact' to use in arguments across the board.

2. We should do our own poll on ATS to see how much we differ from the Gerneral Population

3. This poll is rigged, they probably only asked very pasific people for this on both sides, I certiantly wasn't asked. Thank you thePharaohres

4. Not only that Dutchowl but you forgot to mention alot of us, including myself, believe the government, or agencies that are owned by or higher then the government on our "side" did this

5. avatar01 i feel ashamed of myself for lauging when i clicked that picture, but that is the basic truth

what BS

you lot need to learn how to articulate these polls properly
these findings are just dead noise

people dont fear the government... the government belongs to the people ffs

what they fear, is people 'within' the government!

renegade clans and groups merging creating a covanance and working at the detrement of the public sector

thats what they fear

how can you fear bush...he`ll probably be the life of a party...

Nice catch, though I don't know how you can look at this topic and be anything other than non-partisan, it certainly seemed to be Bush and buddies who got the ball rolling...........

Interesting poll. Maybe the sheeple are starting to wake up? Though the dimocrats seem especially willing to compromise with evil. How has sacrificing our freedoms made us any safer anyway? It seems to me that many of the so called terrorist attacks "thwarted" by the FBI were in fact planned and supplied by the FBI; or at a minimum the players were enticed to act by the FBI. It is high time to reclaim our lost freedoms. Free speech should be free everywhere in this nation, not just in "zones". The right to keep and bear arms should be unregulated as our founders intended. Experience shows that gun laws do not work, except to disarm the law abiding public leaving us at the mercy of predators. The 4th amendment needs to be expanded to include protection from electronic surveillance of our calls, email, and social media. The 5th amendment should be expanded to include protection of our images and dna. Disband the SS, sorry I mean DHS. It's just hard to tell the difference. Disband the TSA. If the airlines want to hire private security and screeners, fine. let each airline do so at their cost, not ours. Those airlines who go too far in their screenings will find themselves with fewer passengers and possibly out of business. Freedom is more important the the "security" the state is currently providing. IMO, anyway.

Although I agree wholeheartedly with what your saying about protecting individual privacy I would like to disagree with you saying that gun control laws don't work...
Since gun control laws where introduced down here in Australia in 1996 the homicide rate has dropped by a whopping 59%!!
That's more than half the people that would've been shot still alive and kicking.
We are still allowed to buy weapons but we must first have a shooters license and to get a license must be part of a club. All weapons must be stored in a safe. Full auto and semi auto weapons along with pump action weapons are banned to the public.
I understand your founders intentions when making these amendments but that was a different time and you where straight out of a war fought in your own soil by the general populace.
I am sure they never intended to have the populace armed with assault rifles and machine guns unregulated.

Most know this already but the FBI took it on the chin hard after 9/11 and it was discussed if the Agency was worthy of staing in tact. Homeland Security was one threat to it's existance before the entire intentions were mapped out. FBI heads rolled and many knew that they had to change the way both the government bureaucrats, politicians and citizens looked at them. It was a re-branding and many of these so called thwarted plans have been public relations golden tickets for the FBI through and through. Langley faced more of a shake up as well. but it didn't face as much of a imminent threat to it's survival on capital hil and beyond as the FBI did.

What an absurd question. One would think; "Why on Earth, would the Govt. feel the need to strip its own people of their freedom? The same people and ideology that it's trying to protect!"

Who are they protecting us from? The terrorists? Or ourselves?

Governments exist to protect the rich from the poor. In a society where all people are approximately equal in wealth, government is not needed.

I can agree with despise for the government but killing anyone IMO is better than being locked away rotting in an off the map prison or just being behind a cell where you can see but never enjoy the outside and help is taken away from labeled criminals ( the worst part is fighting for your rights when you know you we're wrongfully incarcerated.unless you got the green paper ,because that is all it is, you have no voice.

This is a good thing, because this is what people should be afraid of. I am glad people are waking up to the fact that the government can do far more damage than any terrorist group. Our rights and liberties are what we should be afraid of losing as a collective whole, because this will cause many more people to suffer than would suffer from a terrorist attack.

You know what the worst part is? The government actually can still do their jobs within the limits of the Constitution, and still keep Americans safe. This talk about needing to take away rights for them to do their jobs is absolutely ridiculous. They just need to do their job better. Take 9/11 for example. IF the official story is actually true, this incident could have been prevented at multiple stages. It was simply a lack of the government doing its job. These clandestine organizations like the CIA and the NSA already abuse the rights of American citizens, and they still apparently cannot get the job done, so maybe we should restructure or do away with them since they cannot do the job they are tasked with inside the constraints that were set forth.

If they can't, then that is too bad. Something needs to change then obviously, but why in the world should we the people lose our liberties and rights because of this? It does not make any sense. I think it has a lot to do with control. By taking away our rights it is not that they can better protect us, it is that they can better control us. Without our rights dissenters and anyone who disagrees with the government would be snatched up from their homes and locked up somewhere? It already happens TODAY.

It has been happening since at least the 60's. Most people do not know what happened to many of the Black Panthers. They were simply disagreeing with the government and were against many things the government was doing, and this was enough to get the FBI following them and watching them. Many of the people we are talking about were not doing anything outside of the law, yet they were eventually arrested and locked up. In fact, we know some of them today are innocent of any charges, yet they still sit in jail. Why? Because the FBI will not admit they were wrong. That is how much the rights of an individual means to the government. To make matters worse, some of these guys were killed. That one man, I forget his name, was shot while he was sleeping in his bed by the police. We know this as fact today, yet the cops and the government look out for one another and get away with it.

So many of the things that people do not think happen in America, and think only go on in places like China or North Korea, really do happen in America. But the corporate media will not tell you this. Why? Because they are BUSINESSES. They are not independent news outfits who want to tell you the truth. They are not concerned with the truth. And when they do report the truth it is not because they wish to report the truth, but because the truth does not conflict with the message they are tasked with promoting. Declassified government documents already prove that the government was involved in controlling what made it onto the news via MSM networks, so there is no denying it. And to control what gets put on the air is not difficult. There are not hundreds of people who must be bribed or controlled.

Only the people at the top. The people who likely are already connected to the government in some fashion, even if only socially via relationships with some of the government guys in agencies like the CIA. There really is a spider web of connectivity in all areas of national business, corporations, government, etc. So if you can control the handful of people at the top, the control simply trickles down through the networks. Haven't you ever wondered why so many reporters have been fired for wanting to speak the truth on camera? This is easily verified, as so many MSM journalists have attested to this fact. In fact, people were fired for wanting to expose the Bush lies over weapons of mass destruction, or things affiliated with that huge lie. So there is no way that the government does not influence the media, as it is obvious when things like that happens.

So put the pieces together, everyone. There are certain individuals and cliques within the government who really do wish to strip you of your rights. If they could get away with it, they would do it all at once. But they cannot, so they will attempt to do it one right at a time. Recently it has been the 2nd amendment, as this is probably the most important right that we have, because it is what gives us the ability to oppose tyranny. Think about it. What recourse do we currently have to hold the government accountable? They government does not have to let us do anything if they do not want to, and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. If the government is wrong, and you can prove it in some instance, what more can you do? The honest people are weeded out.

Someone, anyone, tell me what happened. It was the Democrats who attacked Bush for years on civil liberties violations and now it results in this? The Democrats want liberties curbed for safety and the Republicans are now against the restrictions.

Is it really the only factor whoever is in office?

You don't understand our current laws or else you wouldn't have made the statements you did. Purchasing Assault Rifles or machine guns is well regulated and requires additional background checks and "taxes" to obtain. These are known as class 3 weapons and are not the ones used in the most recent atrocities.

How do you think these polls would turn out if 48% of the people were not getting money, phones and food stamps from the government?

Look no further then the DOJ and the Whitehouse for the real threat...................I don't know how much more "in your face" this administration has to be for people (the ones that are not being feed and neutered on a daily bases) get who the real threat is here. Don't people understand socialism and communism and there end results?.............Ya I know, people live for "now" and could care less about the future, this is who we are, the only problem is there is just a lot more of us with millions more to come.

Once we as a species have been taught the path of least resistance there is no turning back.

What threat of terror? 4 people have died in 10 years as a result of terrorism in the United States. The TSA has failed to catch 1 terrorist in the over 10 years it has been in operation. Despite tens of billions of dollars in annual budget, funding manpower, armored vehicles and intelligence gathering, the DHS, FBI and CIA failed to stop the one terror event we actually did have in the last 10 years.

Please......... Terrorism is a non issue in America. It's a manufactured fear of a "boogey man" with no credible statistics to back up any credible threat to our society, way of life or possibility of mass casualties outside of "normal" risk as it pertains to our foreign affairs policies.

Terrorism is only real in the sense that it exists. Brown recluse spiders exist too, their bite causes horrible necrotic wounds and sometimes death yet I don't live my life in fear of being bitten because cold hard statistics tell me that the chance of that happening does not warrant any changes in my daily life or behavior. Much like terrorism.

Brilliant. Somebody applause this man.

you mean if I lived in Idaho and owned 1,000 acres, I would be in the majority? or people that live in cities on the coasts just don't count as REAL Americans. I keep getting the feeling that there are people on ATS from north korea, china, iran, and other foreign countries, that do nothing but try and divide us, to create fear and division, hoping to set off a second civil war. flooding blog and websites with posts of distrust and over-the-top hate speech...maybe this is the new foreign war, why get your people killed, when you can have your enemy kill his own people.
