So your saying that in the photo they released he was un identified? so who identified him?

Have you not been paying attention? The photos were released to get help in identifying them. That is the only (official) reason they were put out to the public.

As for who identified him, I do not know, I dont have access to the FBI tip hotline.

It is funny to see many of the typical Obama supporters on ATS jump up and attempt to make this a reasonable thing even though Obama is nowhere found in the OP.

If this were under Bush, the Democrats would be pissed.

Funny how hypocrisy works.

Political troll bait. Well done

If Obama is nowhere to be found in the OP, why are you bringing him up?

Regardless of what anyone thinks should or should not have been done that is immaterial now. This is your future, America. Don't worry, be happy!

Someone is jealous of your freedoms, but not for much longer. There will be other reasons. Get used to looking down the barrel of "assault rifles." They will be "friendly" ones from now on....

The thing is, I dont think ANYONE here doesnt think it is a big deal. Its a huge deal.

Its just that some of us can take a step back and realize that we have literally ZERO context for the picture.

We dont know what the moves of the soldier were before or after the pic was snapped. We dont know what the movement of the person in the window was. We dont know what info the unit had about that neighborhood. We dont know what evidence they found there. We dont know if the camera man was holding anything else. We dont know if the camera man was signaling to the soldier to show off his gun. We dont know if the soldier knew the person in the house. We dont know if the suspect was, in fact, in that particular area.

Bottom line, WE DON'T KNOW.

Yet people want to jump to conclusions, react emotionally, and not stop to think.

I'm trying to figure out if you are truly warning people how to behave or making a political statement? The simple fact is the police were looking for a person who was probably armed, probably connected with a terrorist attack, and probably responsible for killing a fellow police officer.

>>> Clearly, the photographer was using his camera, was that his crime, taking a pic? >Is the threat of lethal force appropriate for taking a picture? >There are a variety of suppositions and hypotheticals that we can discuss here but irregardless, IMHO "America" is heading down a very disturbing path...

God damn the first few responses to this thread almost made me want to throw my monitor out of my window. Seriously? "Well if your do nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about." This is the sort of mentality that will # you in the end.

I have a nice quote to go along with this, and a video.

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

That's pretty much the point.

When will they stop violating our rights... I mean... keeping us safe?

When we are all living in prison cities where everything you do is dictated and regulated by the "authorities"??

No thanks I would rather have freedom and accept the risks as part of life. No need for govt pointing guns at people in order to allegedly keep them safe.

Did godzilla attack boston, or are they preparing for such a thing?

I can't believe what happened there for 2 "terrorists". It really is surreal as hell!

Whats even more surreal is how many goofy people we have apologising for tyranny.

Regardless, the photos reminded me a lot of the streets of Baghdad, I know, I was there and I dont think America is such a dangerous place that it would warrant that reaction even after what took place in boston.

Do the police do the same thing after a drive by shooting in the ghetto? No they dont, even when three or more are killed/injured.

... and if you think that stuff is ok (militarized police units patrolling the streets for TWO suspects) then you, sir are an authoritarian and I will fight you and others that think like you to the bitter end.

I have seen many right wingers support the OS of boston as well, so its no big deal imo.

Both parties have superficial differences such as gay rights, gun control, unions, etc BUT on the important topics they work TOGETHER as though there are no differences at all.

The controllers are indeed masterminds and their supporters are sheep.

If you are implying it was unreasonable or dangerous for the officer to train his weapon on movement in a window that had over watch on his position and the position of his fellow officers, you're delusional.

This happened in America NOT Iraq or Afghanistan. Nor did this happen in a video game like Call of Duty.

So, yes it was, unreasonable.

The police are not allowed to treat everyone as a suspect. They are only allowed to point their weapons at something they intend to shoot and they MUST identify that target as an immediate threat. A person holding a camera is NOT an immediate threat.

Do you understand or do I need to explain it further?

Yeah this is a big deal:

The events to led to the "lockdown" was sheer incompetence of intelligence agencies even tho the bomber were on "terrorists watch lists".

Even bigger deal that Russia had wiretaps on the guy discussing "jihad" the fact remains there was no excuse for what happened in Boston after the bombing.

There was absolutely no reason for an American to get "muzzled" really is amazing how many people support those Gestapo actions.

The only thing left is raise your rights hands and yell zeig heil.

This right here. This IS a big deal. And the possibility of the conspiracy theorists being right is definitely more than zero, certainly. But to jump to conclusions from a simple PICTURE without context is irresponsible and illogical, when our goal is finding the truth. That is our goal, right?

And I see people have started trolling and jabbing each other so I will take my leave. This thread has likely run its course - without further information. Great discussion while it lasted.

So true.

Authoritarianism and promoting a police state are the calling cards of republicans and democrats. Conservatives tend to be for less govt so thats usually who I support.

Do you not consider that that is the point? The person that snapped this photo released it to elicit that EXACT reaction from you.

Do the police do the same thing after a drive by shooting in the ghetto? No they dont, even when three or more are killed/injured.

Nope, which is kind of my point. This was a VERY unique situation. It required a unique response.

You obviously have not read my posts, as I have not once said I think that it is 'ok'. in fact, the word I used to describe it is 'horrifying'.

But hey, if you wanna fight, then by all means, lets do it

I find it amazing that with most of you there seems to be no middle ground. You either believe that this is total takeover, martial law tyranny, or you are a sheep, authoritarian who defends the gov't at every turn.

What ever happened to rationality? Extremes are not good, from EITHER side.
