That is from Cockney rhyming slang.

Dog and Bone - Phone

Rosie Lee - Tea

Rabbit and pork - Talk

Elephant's Trunk - Drunk

Cream Crackered - Knackered

Knackered - Tired

China Plate - Mate (as in, my old China)

Mickey Mouse - House

Whistle and Flute - Suite

Out of all the slang I have heard. I find the cockney rhyming slang the hardest to understand.

That's on purpose right.

Bollocks was originally slang for a priest in the 18th century.

Yes. In fact you are not supposed to say the rhyming word, making it harder to understand for those not in the know.

For example, Whistle and flute, you drop the flute and just say whistle, the flute being implied.

also slang is fabulous, it keeps our language vital, alive and fun... in the uk you can tell where someone is from by accent and slang, in some cases even which part of town someone comes from.

The Sex Pistols were taken to court over the name of their album, "Never Mind the Bollocks".

The court claimed the term meant testicles. They were proven wrong when a priest was presented as an expert, and explained that it was an 18th century slang for a priest. The case was dropped.

True story, happened yesterday when a female of black decent called in.... She was very loud too.... So for theatrical reason I will use caps lock....

I NEEDSTA KNOWS WHYZ I GOTZ DIS LETTER IN DA MAILZ. I'Z ALREADY HAD YOUZ COME AND I DUNT UNDERSTANDZ WHY I GOTZ TO PAYZ FOR DIS

Me: Ma'am I need to know your account number

773-654 (interjected) no ma'am your account number not your phone number

AHHZ WELLZ I AIN'T GOTZ MY ACCOUNT# I'M JUST AXTIN YOU WHY'Z I HAVE GOTZ TO PAYZ FOR DIS.

(Please remember this woman is a owner of a food company in Chicago) After pulling teeth and some hearing abuse or lose of hearing.

Ma'am, you were quoted because you don't have proper protection for the type of Fire Suppression System.

I AIN'TZ NEEDZ TO KNOWZ DAT, WHY'Z I GOTZ TO PAYZ DIS. (I sh~it you not)

Ma'am we follow the Fire Codes for the City of Chicago and the NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) The requirements to properly protect your system have changed per there requirements and by law are obligated to inform you that a re-work of the existing protection is required so you don't get shut down by the fire marshall.

WELLZ WHYZ DIDN'T YOUZ SAYZ SO. YOUZ KNOWZ TIMEZ ARE HARD AND CAN YOUZ MARKZ THATZ WHENZ I GETZ DIS MONEYZ I'Z WILLZ PAYZ DIZ CUZ I'Z NOTS GONNA BE SHUTZ DOWNZ.

(I had to go for a smoke after this customer.... I almost punched the phone) I feel I have given enough of the conversation, to show Slang is dooming the English Language....

End True Story.....

On a seperate note I saved money on my car insurance.

I was speaking to a bloke in a pub on the Isles of Scilly (300 miles away from midlands)who was from the midlands and hadn't been back there for 37 years, and he could pinpoint where I came from within half a mile, just from my voice

it's suggested that the Black Country dialect from this little part of the west mids is closest to how shakespeare would have spoken.

now that aint brummy by the way, say that again and i'll lamp ya.

also, what do you call a china man from between Stourbridge and Cradley?

Yow Fromlye

or a china man from Lye with a black eye?

Hoo Lam Choo

it's a local thang

I don't think Shakespeare actually made up all those words himself.
What dictionaries record as "first use" is the first person to put the word down in writing, which is not the same thing at all.

Shakespeare's language was more Brummie than Black Country, as stated hear:-

en.wikipedia.org...

Stratford-Upon-Avon is just south of Brum, The Black Country is north of Brum.
