Just reading this article on the BBC 'Future' website and thought i'd share...

Scientists are trying to create sci-fi staple of spacecraft, not to protect astronauts from aliens, but to stop a more immediate threat – our Sun’s radiation.

Did you know that during the Apollo moon missions there were several large CME's and eruptions that could have killed the astronaughts out-right....? Except their salvation lay inside the moon with mini magnetospheres.....

Oh well I got it through a proxy

My idea would be to somehow change the polarity of the upper layer of our atmosphere so that it is opposite to the charged (+) particles from the suns rays.
This would I think cause the rays to be repelled by our atmosphere,and prevent the harmful radiation get through.
Thats what our magnetosphere is meant to do,but is not strong enough to keep out the mega solar storms.

Maybe HAARP or a similar system could be used to acheive this?

It will play a part in our planets future,that is for sure.
Good catch PurpleDog,we will see this on the news in years to come.
