Okay, enough is enough on this nonsense. Now they are in "sensitive talks" to exempt not only themselves but their staffers! EXCUSE ME? This law we've been told will be the greatest thing since sliced bread and the cat's meow for our ailing health system turns out to be a wild tiger they can't stand? Oh, say it ain't so! I'm shocked!

I AM quite upset though, and here is why:

Congressional leaders in both parties are engaged in high-level, confidential talks about exempting lawmakers and Capitol Hill aides from the insurance exchanges they are mandated to join as part of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, sources in both parties said.

This isn't a right/left thing, as the first paragraph clearly states. It's BOTH of them, looking to get their own lifeboats off the U.S.S. HealthCare before the whole ship sinks with all hands! Oh, but you'll love the reasoning. It doesn't get better than this.

There is concern in some quarters that the provision requiring lawmakers and staffers to join the exchanges, if it isn’t revised, could lead to a “brain drain” on Capitol Hill, as several sources close to the talks put it.

I believe it's called draining the Swamp. Pelosi, of all people, used that very term for what the Congress who passed this nasty piece of legislation in the first place said would be done. Drain it of corruption. Well, it seems to be overflowing like a commode in a bad coffee shop. ..but wait! That's not all! The best is yet to come for this reasoning of theirs.

The problem stems from whether members and aides set to enter the exchanges would have their health insurance premiums subsidized by their employer — in this case, the federal government. If not, aides and lawmakers in both parties fear that staffers — especially low-paid junior aides — could be hit with thousands of dollars in new health care costs, prompting them to seek jobs elsewhere. Older, more senior staffers could also retire or jump to the private sector rather than face a big financial penalty.
Source

So to put this very simply, they KNOW full well we're all about to be screwed to the wall on new costs and new loss to OUR households and families. However, rather than actually talk about REPEALING this thing or at least reforming it to the point where it doesn't break America's back, one family at a time?? They simply want to find creative ways to avoid seeing themselves or those who know the score best from being slammed like everyone else.

I think we're all about tired of this "Do as I say ...while I'll NEVER be held to it myself" attitude and the stench comes from both the Right and Left sides of the aisle these days. The article features both the worthless bowl of jello we have as a House Speaker and the Corrupt old fart we see as Leader of the Senate.

I say we need a brain drain on Capital Hill. Those pea brains need drained right out into retirement and their staffers can just go suck eggs right along with them. How dare they openly admit that they KNOW the level of hardship this is about to hit us all for ...and their MAIN concern is saving their own butts.

THEY DID THIS TO US. They can fix it! They choose to simply put the 'fix' in for all who they may have to personally face on a daily basis. Well, having to face the public in the future is something we can all DO something about for them. Lets insure they don't see reelection. To the last person. They ALL GO. This is just the topper on a day that started bad and went downhill before reading the shenanigans on Capital Hill.

Haha, usually I try and find an opposite argument but in this case I can't.

Throw them all out and start over.

There is absolutely no justification for this type of behavior.

I'll see your gathering and raise you one terrorist identification chart! You never know when you might encounter one! They are everywhere according to those lawmakers who seem to consider us worthy of the care they are busy running from with all possible speed.

Yes, indeed. They're everywhere I tell ya! (glances at the bushes with new found concern) ...It's too quiet out there.

We have to demand that they be held accountable. We have to DEMAND that they get exactly what they give the rest of us.

Good luck.

The American people have spoken. They voted for a guy that promised the World, including Universal Healthcare.

Sad.

Thanks for the thread Wrabbit. I have a feeling that a lot of people aren't even aware of this so If you don't mind, I'd like to share it on a social networking site to get it out to people. The more that know about it the better IMO.

Write your local congressman/woman and let them know how messed up this is!! This is beyond ridiculous and is totally unacceptable. RAWRRRR!!!!

How about, all federal employees, and ONLY federal employees, take this bill for a four-year trial run. If they can handle it, then maybe.

Actually, still no.

Oh heck, I'll go for that! You know why? By the end of the four years THEY had to live with a new system, that system wouldn't be a Cadillac, it would be a Ferrari Testarossa, as shiny as the day it came off the assembly line.

As long as that law about them taking the test drive includes an iron clad provision that we get precisely what they turn it into for themselves? Heck, that's the kind of one payer health-care change I can get behind!

Of course, the level of benefit they take for granted would break the U.S. Treasury within a year and for real if extended 300 million times ....but they sure had plenty believing that was what would come for all, back in '09 when they dropped it on everyone. (Let's just give them MedicareMedicaid and see them make lemonade out of that lemon basket)

I swear they keep on and keep on making it harder to like any of them
in any way at all, this madness is getting to the point of third world
countries, i encourage everyone to go look up the current political
situation in Honduras, if you want a taste of what corruption of this
ilk breeds, that is a great research topic.

I know of one way to fix this crap and in all honesty if folks in the US
would stand together we could do it easily, just stop your insurance,
don't pay it, everyone drops their coverage, boycott the entire industry
until it if fixed, it would be difficult but do you really think if every single
person on insurance dropped it at once you wouldn't see immediate
action? money talks and if we refuse the discussion until terms are
more amicable for both parties then i think we could actually fix all
this...... I just want it all to stop, this endless greed is tiring.

And just think. Company's are laying off, or limiting hours because of this mess.

Really, the Nerve.

Well found, OP.

But a more general question.

Do you ever think that maybe, just maybe, those in DC might be thinking, "Did we go too far?"

The ones that don't matter that much or the ones with very little say might be thinking that. Especially the ones with large familys.

I'd sure like to think that, but then why do they keep pushing and poking? If they figured they may have finally overstepped even their own standards of basic decency to the public, it strikes me as the last time they ought to choose to go make closed door deals for their own comfort and their immediate staff.

You know what singes my tail the most here? Look at the article here ..and realize THIS is bi-partisan. Probably one of the FIRST bi-partisan efforts they have actually made in over 4 years. Perhaps longer. Certainly far too long though.

This is what it takes ..and how important saving their positions with their own people is to them. Oh if only they believed people WOULD vote them out. They bet on the fact everyone insists THE OTHER Congressman or Senators are the problem though and their OWN guy isn't. Even if he's done 20-30+ years up there. They're usually safe in that assumption too.

Maybe it's just a latent piece of naivete on my part, but to willfully destroy the country is insane! If they think their staff will be so drastically affected by this, then what of the 300 million who will suffer even more?

This little piece of anger goes out to the spineless pukes on both sides of the aisle as well!

You know, I don't believe they see it that way. I think they really see it as just hitting bottom so a new solution can be built in place of a system I've felt was set up for failure from the passage of the ACA in 2009. This whole system never seemed viable on it's face by the time of full implementation. States like mine now outright outlawing compliance by state constitutional amendment put the nails on the coffin for it in any long term realistic way, IMO.

So, it's set to fall and after how Boehner and the other spineless 'Conservatives' up there have responded or NOT responded beyond sound bites and silly bumper sticker slogans? I'm really wondering how much of the 'Democrats locked Republicans out' during the ACA passage was real vs. how much was for show while they both helped this thing on through in different ways?

Oh, I recall clearly the lockouts physically happened and Republicans were outright excluded from large parts of the ACA bill being crafted and written. ....but they sure seem just fine with it on everyone now and complications have only made a bad idea worse in the time since?

Almost like it really was both sides together on this even then? I'm really getting burned on the party system concept because it really doesn't seem to hold meaning in the real world of how things do and do not happen up there.
