A suggestion for a separate user area.

Topic started on 4-11-2004 @ 04:31 AM by defcon5

I have a suggestion or proposal. I noticed that in BTS there is a thread on member pictures, and it made me think of this. There is also an introductions thread on ATS, which I have never used, and a reason why.

Basically I don’t wish to share too much information in any one place, on this site about myself, over the open web. Those that are true ATS’ers can pick up bits and pieces over multiple threads, but never all in one place.

I really don’t have a problem with other ATS members having this information, but I don’t care for it being posted to the open web where any lurker can have at it.

Why not make an area that is accessible to only members, and only after having made either so many posts, putting up their own profile, or gaining so many points, where this can occur. It would also be a good place for posting the pictures from ATS events like the Michigan get together, and proposing other such events.

Maybe this is already in place and I am not aware of it, maybe there is a good reason why it is the way it is, either way enlighten me.

In light of heated debates that I have been rather voiced in where in information was volunteer by one member to everyone and their dog, restrictions as to the release of information aquired by one member about another with out permissin should carry some sanctions as well.

Deny Ignorance should also have restrictions where in having information you yourself didnt want to know or you would have looked it up yourself
only adds to ignorance....

I am not sure what you are stating, but in what I am suggesting you would still have the freedom to only post what you choose about yourself.

I am more concerned with employers, or potential employers, and such, as anyone here should be. The job market being what it is, there should be some restrictions on that information. Again while I do not worry about anyone else that is a legitimate poster here, I am more worried about those that would make a fake account, or be a simple lurker gaining information on who is posting their opinions here, and what those opinions are.

While at present I have a employer that is a bit of a conspiracy theorist himself, and has in fact read some of the threads I have posted on, I may not have this situation for the rest of my life, so why take chances?

What I understood you to suggest was that people aquire points to get access and or be members only right ,,,,,thats what im adding onto....

Where going the same way I just suggest adding don't ask don't tell to the policy............where in nothing is volunteered that you your self didnt want in open forum ..........someone did this by airing someones info on open forum and even in the thread title and thats wrong......mums the word if you want the information get it yourself I say and dont anyone give it out freely in the open where every can see it

Of course you would not be required to share anything that you feel uncomfortable sharing, Its simply that there are certain things I feel more comfortable sharing with other users, but not the general public.

Even still if a potential employer or someone wants to take the time to make such a fake account, and generate the points/posts, then they will get said information. Most would not spend the time to do this. I guess that the general idea is to take that information away from the casual, and especially non-member, viewers, and some would feel more comfortable posting more about themselves.

Information like get-togethers, should really not be on the open forum anyway, that is a user only kind of thing. This site needs to allow that kind of privacy anyway if they wish to have that ATS family kind of feel, while allowing opinions to flow freely, and still generate web hits on the public domain.

COOL we are in the same zone I;m just sugesting penalties for releasing information like this you dont want to share , but with others you know and talk to here as members .....let's not allow the security this offers to be compramised by some person who just gives the info out in the open......

Ah, I get you now, your worried about someone that you have a disagreement with posting personnel info on the public area.

I would guess that he Mods would have to have stiff penalties for that. Again though no one would be requiring personal info like phone or address, just things that you wish to let others on the site know, but not the general public.

Even if someone posted that info on the public forum, I would hope the mods would immediately jump on it, so it would only be there for a few minutes.

SEE I KNEW WE WHERE CLICKING

I just want the sanctions to be stiff as they can be even more so than those imposed on me as you can see from warn tag for loosing my temper.

100, 200, or 250 points are not going to matter to someone out to cause harm........
