"Collapse" & "Guns, Germs, and Steel" by Jared Diamond.

Collapse is about our history, lost civilizations, and how societies choose to fail or survive.

Guns, Germs, and Steel is an interesting book and very broad in its scope, thought-provoking and challenging, for the most part refreshing in its outlook, but marred by an excess of political correctness and almost oblivious to the role of cultural differences and individuals in the shaping of history.

Both books have documentaries if you're too lazy to read.

2 very enthusiastic thumbs up for "Guns, Germs, and Steel"!

An excellent read for understanding how a large portion of today's world came to be.

I really suggest taking a look at Collapse as well if you haven't already. It's a great book if you are capable of looking at things from multiple angles.

I will certainly put it on my list. I completely forgot how good Guns, Germs and Steel was until I saw you mention it. Collapse will be in my near future.
