Canadian Government Exploits Boston Bombing to Pass Bill to Limit Civil Liberties

www.theglobean dmail.com

News of a terror plot to attack a Via Rail train, just one week after the Boston Marathon bombings, has pushed public security to the front burner just as the Harper government seeks Parliament’s authority to curb civil liberties in the name of keeping Canadians safe.

The House of Commons was several hours into a debate Monday over a government-sponsored counterterrorism bill that would give authorities extra powers of arrest and detention when the RMCP announced they had foiled an al-Qaeda-backed plan to attack a Toronto-area passenger train.

Here it comes. Right after what happened in the southern borders, Canada takes the "stand" and races happily toward the finish line with US. God forbid Canada doesn't do the same thing as USA. Harper is such a suck up.

I already expressed my doubts about what happened in Boston and I said that had a bad feeling that the whole story was just the prelude of what was about to come but honestly I've never thought would be starting so quick. I'm shocked at least.

I do not have an issue with so-called "curbing" of my civil liberties to continue living in a safe society. Only those with something to hide will protest. I applaud extra measures to protect Canadians from the Muslim extremist madmen and women who think that their darkness-based murderous ideologies should be shared by the rest of the world. This is not the world we once knew and the old rules no longer apply. Al-Qaida circles the planet with participants in every country and nation willing to commit terrorist acts against anyone and everyone even to sacrificing their own worthless lives for the al-Qaida monsters. These people are the scourge of an entire planet and need to be routed out tout de suite. Root out the dastardly extremists and put an end to their rule of terror.

It has not been passed yet.

JESSICA MURPHY | QMI AGENCY

OTTAWA - Parliamentarians debated enacting tougher counter-terrorism laws in Canada on Monday against the backdrop of an alleged terror plot short-circuited by the RCMP.
MPs started two days of debate on the Combating Terrorism Act, which beefs up terror laws by, among other provisions, increasing penalties for knowingly harbouring a terrorist.

It would also give law enforcement new powers to force people to appear for investigative hearings and for preventive arrests in certain terrorism probes.

What all the world Governments want to get to, is having chips implanted in every individual and brain/mind control also implanted. Knowing every move and every thought, all over the world.

We will keep seeing terrorism til every last human is chipped

So they haven't passed anything, at least not yet.

And your thread title isn't the title of the linked article, which is "Via Rail train plot brings counterterrorism, civil liberties to top of House’s agenda", not quite the same thing -- your title implies that they passed something.

Thats some cow manure if I ever smelt it. So there definition of terrorist will now be broadened I suppose. Anyone who commits any crime will be considered a terrorist and then a persons mother will be facing ten years in the penitentiary just because your son has affiliations. Man, I hate Harper!

(b) for a term of not more than 10 years, if the person who is harboured or concealed committed an offence under this Act for which that person is liable to any other punishment.

(2) Every person who, for the purpose of enabling or facilitating an offence under this Act, knowingly harbours or conceals any person whom he or she knows to be a person who is likely to carry out an offence under this Act, is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term of not more than 10 years.

I wonder when the day will come when you will be "detained" for liking something on facebook. For not liking a new law (the irony here is astounding). Anything which the lawmakers may see as extremism.

What if you get thrown in jail for 12 years for not knowing anything, yet an investigation shows you like a few too many things deemed "extremist behavior"?

I'm not saying this or NDAA is going to see innocent people locked up for things like not liking their government.

Though what if we get to a point where tax evaders are deemed a monetary threat to the United States?

Again, its probably never going to happen, but there is always that chance.

I thought this just brought back laws the Liberals set in place after 9/11 but had since expired... No?

I have never been a fan of Harper, but a quick check on reality is nice.

Have you seen Harper? I don't think that man would ever outlaw Canadian Bacon(Back, Bacon). Besides, bacon is Canada's number one deterrent against Islamic extremism. It's so delicious they convert to canadianese.

Just to add, I love Canada, sometimes the government does weird things but overall we have it great.

We have near complete freedom here honestly. Besides taxes or the odd ticket for speeding.

The day this stuff starts effecting us though they'll wish they hadn't even bothered to try...

Well, well, well, just in time for the Harper government's push for this new antiterror law.

It's funny how these things just magically happen to support the anti gun type bills, and/or other bills designed to take our treasured rights away.

Time and time agin we see mass shootings, and terror events, which magically support various governments' efforts to edge closer and closer to tyrannical rights reductions.

Taken on their own each event is difficult to prove conclusivly for or aginst the OS
as evidenced by some very lively debate for and against the original OS for each event. However there seem to be emerging patterns which seem to defy all odds of coinkydink

For example 911, and 777, and the hoof and mouth drill in England, all haveing casualties at exactly the same places as the drill was supposed to spoof them for training purposes.

Or each event has law enforcement, or early responders or simple heros, who totally refute the OS, and then they wind up on the no fly list like that janitor at 911 who saved all those people.
Also sometimes there are members of a foreign government are arrested for connection to these crimes and then they get magically deported like the dancing Israelis or the Boston bombing Saudi.

Or it turns out the fbi or similar were coaching them and then the drill or sting gets turned into a real terrorist event like the underwearbomber or the 1995 WTC bombing...and we only find out because of staunch patriotic witnesses or informants who won't give in to the alphabet soup people who try to get them to change their story to match the OS.
