Does anyone know who the entity known as "Anonymous" is? I see "Anonymous" pop on many sites like BIN and You Tube. Some of his/her info seems plausible. Just wonder if anyone has a theory as to why "Anonymous" is out there.

Anonymous is everyone. And no one. That is the whole point of Anonymous.

As they are no one secure group it opens up avenues for the Alphabet agencies to do things online under the banner 'anonymous done it'
That's my feeling on the whole thing.

There's no way of knowing who they are. There good at hiding and they want to be hidden. I doubt anyone on ATS would know there Identity unless they were apart of it. and if they are they definatly wouldnt tell you. If they aren't some government group then they're wanted by some government group. Unless you can out hack them you may never know. No one knows there ideals or goals either.

Well, you understand some sites lets you post anonymously, without having a user name. So that's the basic idea when you see it on the net. The hacker group plays off that idea a bit. Anonymous is one name which describes many people. Its a "standalone complex", to put it in terms of some good sci fi anime:
en.wikipedia.org...
eventually came to represent a phenomenon where unrelated, yet very similar actions of individuals create a seemingly concerted effort
So are alphabet agencies part of the complex? Yes. Are activists? Yep.

edit: To be clear though, this is not something that just anybody can jump in to and start posting videos. Though people who are part of it are diverse, they are all invested in the coherence of the concept, and if you take actions which disrupt that coherence, the others will not like it. And that's bad. For instance, when people where wearing their signature masks at rally's and committing acts of petty vandalism, Anonymous struck out at them pretty hard.

Definatly. I personally like them. With the direction america is headed in they have potential to do great things. Unless I was a hacker I wouldn't look too far into trying to figure out thier identity and There really is no way of knowing what they will do next especially since any hacker can claim to be anonymous

Simply typing anonymous into your local search engine will yield lots of results. Anonymous is a group of people, both young and old who fight tyranny. Know your meme has a very informative page on anon. Of course, you can check out Anon news and Why we protest as well for further information.

I do agree that sometimes things are done in the name of anonymous to further political/capitalistic/name-your-evil ends, but the movement itself is like internet vigilantism...

Among some of the good things they've done: take down child porn server, helped solve rape cases 1 and 2, removed Westbro Baptist Church anti homosexual site, and this list goes on... it's rather lengthy.

If your refering to the group named anonymous, that use the Guy Fawkes masks, their basically hacktivists.

They basically fight passive aggressively (Hacking/protests) against corrupt corporations. And they also make videos to spread the message behind certain groups, or companies.

Their fed up with the 1%, government, and corporations. But they aren't internet trolls that go around phishing facebook accounts or something like that. They take aim at groups of people who are oppressive towards the public.

I guess you can say they lurk in the shadows on the web, and help protect people from corruption/tyranny. Some people call them terrorists, others call them patriots.

Its funny to think that they can find a guy in a hole in the middle of the nowhere supposedly and they cannot simply figure out who runs this group? Another one of my favorite is that the news supposedly interviewed his/her close friend but they have no clue to who "Anonymous" is? Question: How can you get that close to someones friend or relative for that matter and not know who you are looking for??

They said it was a few people in some news room somewhere that had started this group supposedly but they don't know who??? I'm pretty sure if they (by they i mean TPTB) wanted to know they would've checked who was working there at the time. They would've got "Anonymous" already.

For example a little off topic but for EXAMPLE:The recent events in Boston: Not even a day or so later they already knew who "supposedly" did the crime set forth....but they can't seem to find this person "Anonymous"
I heard on the radio recently on NPR that they found out the "IRS" is/has been targeting people based on their political beliefs and more but they can't find this person "Anonymous" ??

I understand a lot of peoples belief in "Anonymous" but have you not really thought how they were set in motion?
There is the NSA,CIA,DHS,ATF and many many more branches watching for things like this. They are considered the best for a reason but they can not find out who that person or group is??

Do you not think this is most likely drawing people out of their rooms causing them to be blacklisted.

I'm starting to think that "Anonymous" is really an experiment based on how they are doing things without having any links back to them. Who can get away with any crime especially cyber crime other than the governments, foreign and domestic???
The whole thing is a cliche' to me.

Anonymous. You. Me. Us. Them. Everybody.

A bunch of nameless, faceless, everyday, ordinary people.
